I am comtemplating of getting the HK500GT. I downloaded the Align TREX 500 CF instruction manual to compare the parts. Instead I got confused. Can someone experienced with hobbyking spare parts select what the items I should add to the purchase of the HK 500 GT ATF KIT. Thank you in advance.

If you mean spare parts, as in those most likely to break... tail boom, main blade grips, flybar, main shaft, feathering shaft. Those seem to be the most common to break, or should be replaced after a crash.
If you mean parts to "upgrade" it, because of reports of insufficient quality: tail rotor assembly (Align# AGNH50073 for the metal version) would be the #1. Although if you aren't doing "hardcore" 3D then the Align factory plastic one would suffice. Other than that I haven't had any problems with other parts.

Tail rotation:
I want to share with you the fact that my heli looks fine but I had problems with the tail rotating after some seconds of flying. I tried several gyros and servos and different settings but nothing solved the problem. It may have to do with that I was using 3 cell batteries and so perhaps needed more rev on the tail rotor. I solved this by installing larger tail rotor blades of 85mm length. NOW it flies stable and with excellent head locking.

I fly it as is, if your new and you've put in some work on the sims AND want to do some realistic scale flyin this thing is for you.
I'm pretty new too and like lower head speeds (cause I'm not doin ANYTHING 3d) and put 600 sized tail blades on this thing for low HS control...that's the only thing I'd change.
I've got an all HK setup(gyro, servos, typhoon, 80amp hk esc with governor, radio tx)

erh7771, first let me thank you for your reply. It's very hard for me to think that this would fly as it is. The little hk450, it's been a year and i am still struggling with it. First it's the tail shaft slippering than the back rotor shaft slippering than the fathering shaft etc...
I would like the GT500 but it never seems to be in stock

***r quality, you get what you pay. The tail protector is made from aluminum, the first time you hit the tail to the flor it will not protect the blades because the aluminum protector will bend easyly.

The blades that came with my HK500 were Fiberglass and balanced well. I bought 2 of the Typhoon 500H's and one slung the magnets, but the other is kicking strong. The higher KV motor is good if you intend to keep the 162T maingear, but if you are swapping to align 145T then its a bit too fast. I would get a higher amp ESC though. perhaps 100a sentilon. As for the battery, sorry no clue!

I am still using a lot of Ino-Lab servos in 450 and 500 class helicopters. They are very reliable and even the carbon gear types have shown a very good crash resistance. Specs are fullfilled. In my first HK-T500 I have the 250HB (speed!) at 6V for the swash plate. Only negative aspect: the gears could be a bit less sloppy. In summary: I highly recommend ALL Inolab-servos, at least for the price at HK. - Btw, the MKS DS9660 or 9670 is a performance step but a price step as well.

I have noticed that there are some really cheap shots and unsubstantiated posts about this heli. However, I did also see some reviews that mentioned some "legitimate sounding" questions and concerns about the "quality control" and "finish" of the model that they had recieved in the reviews section but those reviews were quickly removed. Is this censorship happening for real?
I am very interested in this heli but even for the price they are asking, HC must be able to provide an inherently SAFE model heli right? Censorship concerns me if it is happening.

I love HC and am platinum level for a year now (buy 80% of my stuff here).Mine is still in transit but I do have to be honest that I jumped to ordering this afraid to miss out. (see if this gets removed):
If you (and you probably will) upgrade some parts on this, buy a fibre glass canopy (this one is unsusable like hk450) and add the shipping (not questioning the rates, HC is always fair!) you will have a MUCH better quality 500 clone (CF Frame, all metal!) for 178 USD INCLUDING Shipping from another online HK based shop.(Google for Tarot 500 CF Kit)
Better do it right the first time and go for that one. But get your electronics here!

Metal upgrades to either the HK450 or the 500 is a bad idea cost wise. The Tarot 500 + good electronics isn't that much cheaper compared to a 500ESP kit off fleabay. Replacing a crashed head and blade holder with metal makes sense* otherwise HK500 is a crash and throw away "toy".

I`ve flown mine today and it`s working good now...tried it 2 weeks ago but on s***l up the screw that holds the tailblade grip snapped ???
I`ve replaced swashplate, flybar, flybar controlarm, paddles, landing gear and lately the tail rotor holder with the "Original" brand.
Hopefully HC will make/offer some upgrades, it wouldn`t hurt in my oppinion.

Got mine today.
The main rotor shaft seems to be short or the collar is at the wrong position. Anyone can measure shaft length and collar positionning ?
The main gear does wobble quite a bit. It's not the plastic but the autorotation bearing.
Where do i get the pinions for the 5mm motor ?
The landing gear is really ugly ..

These days ship time seems to be at least 4 days. My order day before still hasn't shipped.
They correctly removed the motor in the new pics that was never included as stated in the original descrip.tion.
CF blade would be sweet but not likely given they're typically $40+. Expect to get the $9 GF blades.

Google on info for serial packing two 3s for a 6s. Talk is the extra impedence from the serial wiring affect performance for hardcore 3D. Fine for sports flying.
Best to have both packs exactly the same with similar usage and recharge cycles. I always buy my packs in twos and track their recharging.

Two in series, two in parallel 450 packs will fly the 600. Nice to have room to fly a 600. 500 is the biggest I can get away with in the local fields.
For sure will get a 600 whenever there's a good cheap clone. Don't expect anyone will clone a niche market heli. 600 will be very expensive to fly.

just for curiosity... isn't HC liable for copyright infringement when they cloned the trex 500? i appreciate the fact that HC has brought the hobby to be affordable to everyone and i hope they don't run into legal issues.

Align is Tawain which China wants to take back so copyright infringement is the least of worries. China would luv Tawain to start a war for a legit opportunity to conquer them. Copyright is for friendly nations.

From pics head/tail def. plastic. Wanna bet when metal head/tail upgrade arrives it'll cost at least the price of kit. Maybe they'll even have a torque tube, NOT!
Fiber frame for $55 would be sweet. Bet on Alum like HK450.

Not a bad deal for a cheap heli. I fly the Trex 500 and its a quality product. You'll find that after spending $$ on upgrades to this machine you will approach the same price as the Align or CopterX equivalent. But what the heck, its cheap and looks like it will fly well. As for materials, looks like ally frame and plastic rotor head. My Hirobo Shuttle had all plastic head and it was fine.

Which other motor is compatible with this heli besides Typhoon. Will plush 60A Esc be sufficient for typhoon? Motor description says 65A recommended but max current draw is 55A.

I recommend the Plush 80A ESC to give you more headroom. Even though this ESC has a built-in 3A UBEC, I recommend using separate UBEC for the electronics to reduce the heat load of the ESC. The Turnigy 5-7.5A UBEC will work fine.

agree with above .. you need a ubec on 6 cells.. but a ss esc should be fine... tune the head speed with pinion changes and run a flat 100% throttle curve in idle up 2.

It does have the spacers - BUT the Hitec servos will not fit without enlarging the hole slightly. Because the 5245s measure 17mm and the provided hole in the frame is 16.6mm. Also, the provided washers are too small.

Hi all. Regarding that CF frame part listed above, that frame is for the old HK500, which was a KDS model. That CF frame is not for the new trex copy HK500.

I think HK-T500's frame is aluminum.
Because I can't see any pattern of carbon or GRF.
I don't know if it possible using the alu frame
on 500 size heli. Maybe it can't have enough stiffness to endure vibration or strenth.

as does the ESKY E-Smart ...these are much bigger heli than a 500 !
