Turnigy Typhoon 500H Heli Motor 1800kv (500 Class)
The Turnigy Typhoon is a very serious upgrade for any 500 size heli. Tight copper wire turns with high pressure pressed laminations make this motor very efficient and powerful. Users will notice the instant power increase and higher idle speed when using this motor & we suggest you adjust your throttle accordingly.
i have this motor on a gaui 550 hurricane which is fitted with trex 500 rotor blades,i also have a align 70amp esc fitted as well,,,,,,,,,,,if i use the original large gaui 550 rotor blades the esc gets very hot and cuts out,if i use the trex 500 blades then the esc gets very but continues to work,,,,,,i also have this motor on a standard trex 500 with an 80amp turnigy esc and that esc barely gets warm ,,,,,is this motor ok with 70amp align esc ???????
Merci!!!
hi there
is any one use this in a rc boat i have twin cat and thinking to use this motors on 5s life cells would this be working ok i wont be able to install watercooling to the motor only my motor mounts are watercooled so this should take some heat away not sure how hot this will run...
pls help me and i will reward best answers for sure
many thanks
greetings from london
I'm running a twin motor setup with similar motors . I have the water cooled mounts installed and fabed up a tunnel duct to direct airflow onto them. I haven't had any problems with heat. You should be ok if you can get a little airflow to them
the safe motor gear to use for this motor would be a 12 toth. if you have a 13 tooth that would work but you will have to use a lower thottle curve. this motor is very powerfull. with the 18 tooth gear. you are pulling way to high a headspeed. min headspeed for the hk 500 would be 2500rpm.
In answer to your questions, I would say the outlet on bottom of motor is to expel the hot air, as there is no opening at other end, if it was to draw cool air in, as hot air would need to get out some where. Mounting the engine on trex 500, is shaft pointing up, and at time of connection to esc, and test, will determin direction, and if wrong direction, swap 2 wires in connectors from motor to esc, to get right direction. I hope this answers your question, and is clear.
can anyone tell me whether the laminations on the typhoon 500 are to pull cool air in or expel air hot air out*** is the direction shown in the picture the correct way for a trex 500
What Karl said all you need to do is hook your motor up and if it is spinning backwards reverse any 2 of the 3 wires and youll be good to go. Also I would highly reccomend printing off the trex 500 manual from align it does a good job showing you just how to assemble your bird.
I run this motor on a Windrider combat wing, 80Amp plush speed controller 9 by 3 pilon racer prop and a 4 cell 3600mah lipo. It goes like s bat out of hell. Real big sky flying what would the best timing be for this motor setup? prop tip currently spinning * 1024km/h
you probably can get away with it, but personally i wouldn't risk it. the peak current is 65A and when you take into account that your servo's might draw 3 or 4 amps then you are down to 57A on a esc. i would personally go for the dlux 70A or higher especially if you pull a reasonably fast stunt and load it up.
i bought this motor and Hobbyking SS Heli Series 70-80A ESC w/UBEC (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewIte m.asp?idProduct=10015)
but i do not know how to connect motor to esc.
there are 3 different coloured cables on the motor. which color is A, which color is B and which color is C?
Simply plug the motor cables to your ESC. Make sure your receiver has the throttle channel connected to the ESC. Now power on your transmitter, and plug in the battery to the ESC. Give a small amount of throttle and verify if the motor is spinning in the desired direction. If it is not, reverse any two of the cables and you are set.
Hi everyone, I am building up my first 600, purely scale flying, hovering cruising around, do you think this would suit the HK600GT for this type of use? Thanks
Sorry, maybe my question is not very clear, does anyone think this motor would be ok in a HK600GT with only scale flying, no 3D, just scale hovering and flying around?
Thanks
I have one of these on my GAUI 450 and it has enough power with a 4S 4000MaH Battery. I think you will do just fine on just scale flying with a 600 size Heli.
Enjoy
I don't think is a good ideal to use the 500 heli motor to the 600 heli. I prefer you to buy the motor for the 600 side so in the feature you wouldn't regret. Truth me later on you'll like to to upgrade.
hi i want to use this in a hk 500gt. i want to use this mtor with a 13 tooth pinion and 6s 3000mah battrey. i think my head speed wil be too much but i am new to all of this but am going to do 3d so want high head speed. what do you guys think.
ok thanks, i have found some info on this heli o the internet and now i am going to use the hk 1600kv motor, with a 6s 3000mah battery on the stock 13 tooth. i have read that anything smaller than 12 tooth on a 500 can brake the main gear very easily
many thanks thoe.
Overfill, a 10T pinion may be too small and strip the spur gear. 11T is a good starting point for a 500 heli, check head speed, TH curve and flight times then go from there.
Yes, you can use a 85 A ESC! But it depends on...you can also use a 65 A ESC how it is written at manual. But a friend of mine has a 60 A Turnigy ESC, and it is working perfectly!
Align does not make a 5mm 11T .6 shaft pinion the one Rediheli sells is a revco hard one it's a very well made. It shows out of stock a lot but I just put my name on the back order list and they got some in a few days later. I had them ship priority and they got it to me in 2 days.
In the end I used a 12T because I didn't need the higher RPM fly's really well with the 12T so far I don't do 3D if your doing that the 11T for higher RPM is what you need. This motor is really powerful for what it costs. I can't believe how cheap this stuff is 10 years ago same thing cost $1000's of US$.
Thanks for the info, I ordered a 2 for 1 deal on the Align 12t and 13t, figure I will give them all a try. In the late 70's and early 80's when I first started flying planks, the few Helis I got to see fly were worth 4 to 5 thousand usd. The price of an eco car back then. No EP all nitro back then.
It depends on...with how many cells do you fly?
there is written max amp. is 55 A! of course the maximal value is working with the maximal voltage - 22,2 V. Then you can calculate: 22,2x55=1221W.
I think this is an real value, because a motor with 1800 kv can have this power...
EDF Jet pilots If you want a cool 1600W 90mm on 6S at 74Ap I can tell you that the Midifan with this $25 motor is sweet. Super light combo compared to inrunners at 310g total (200g less than a Lander 90) with plenty of torque and good cooling. You will need a 6S5000 30c or 40c but the weight and $ saved on the engine can go into the LiPo. Motor runs warm with back plate off. This EDF motor rocks!
I've tested it in my Flasher 500, only with a 4S flightpower, and I'm glad to say that the Amp consumption reaches 30 at most, and the power is much more than enough for my Sport/basic 3D (newb)flight style. Motor, battery and ESC, almost completely cold After flight.
EN - I have read all revies and forums about his motor, it is the best choice for 500size heli from HK store. realy Amazing Motor, I recomend to buy. The smaller brother for 450heli is very good too. - CZ - Tento motorek je co se recenzi tyce asi to nejlepsi co se na HK da koupit, mam oba Typhony 450 i 500 heli verzi. Super design, vykon cena. Doporucuji zkusit:)Skoda ze nemaj konektory.

10 thumbs up!
after running this motor for over ten flights i can recormend it. im running it on 6s 2600 on a 11t pinion with a head speed of 2650rpm and getting 6-7 min flight this motor runs verry well and stays cool verry pleased
I have actually measured the rpm vs volt and did some simple math. rpm/volt * 1.01: (46,296rpm/24.61v) * 1.01 = 1899.998 = 1900 kV. Formula from rcgroups - not sure how accurate. Regardless, a very powerful motor. I'm on 12T using 3000mA 20C 6S. have to lower throttle curve to get 2800-2600 headspeed
