Hi, any idea by when this item will be restocked? I have also an order open for a month(2010/04/01) now, waiting on these. It's pretty annoying for I need all the other parts in the order. But still I'm not sure if I should cancel these esc's and order some others with my next order instead.

Well, that makes two of us. I have a whole order waiting because this item, I'm starting to wonder if I should give up on them. I chatted with trever (customer support) the other day and he said there is no ETA for a new batch of these so I don't know what to do.

I believe that that the Turnigy K-Force range of speed controllers are also sold as HobbyWing Platinum Controllers with a different colour heatshrink. You might find that these ESC are available elsewhere, but not at such a good price

i personally cant just sit back and wait for a particular esc. particulary as you say may not come back in stock. find another 40amp esc instead of waiting. towerpro use the same programing system as turnigy if you dont want to learn a new one. if you buy a dodgey brand make sure you oversize the esc. i.e. buy the 50amp instead of 40amp.

I've seen YouTube videos of the HobbyWing version appearing to govern (better than my K-Force) so I think it must be possible.
If anyone here is happy with the governor could you pass along your other settings and the heli details?
Also, apart from the nameplate in the photo, the entire thing is wrapped in heat shrink. Is the name plate supposed to be the heat sink? In trying to peek into the ends of the shrink, I noticed that there appears to be an upside-down heat sink installed on the back side of the package, and it's also under heat shrink.... Very strange if you ask me.

Guys - just want to let you know that this ESC has a compatibility issue with my Scorpion 3008-32 outrunner. I've fried two of them while still in programming mode - seems like the moment that I change the timing, the ESC immediately burns out. It's happened to two in a row now, but other people have found them to be really fantastic, so I can only think it's a compatibility problem. If you have a Scorpion outrunner, rather go for the Turnigy Plush. They work fine with my Scorpions.

Brent - I've just got my first pair of force 40 ESC's. I'm only using 3s and an AXI 2820/10. All worked fine until I programmed the ESC. I set the brake 'on' (folding prop) and adjusted the low voltage cut out to 'hard'. Everything was fine until I saved the settings. The ESC acknowledged that it was exiting the programming mode. Then it made some other strange noises. At this point the motor looked like it was about to start and then the ESC went up in smoke!!
My spin on this is that when it came out of programming mode it had the brake on at the same time as the motor.
Having read what you've said I'm wondering if it just crashes and fries itself when it exits programming mode??
I've got another one but I'm not going to risk programming it. The stuffed one will have to go back to HC - NOT HAPPY.
Pity.. I though these would be good 6S ESC's. I'll stick to my old CC45's. i've had them for years and they have never let me down (Unlike the Turnigy /hobbywing)
Mitch.

UPDATE: I'm sending my first one back but I thought I should try the second ESC.. I programmed the second ESC the same as the first BUT I exited the programming mode at step 3 and this time it didn't go up in smoke! (On the first ESC I waited until it had clocked through all of the features and quit from the 'exit programming mode' option).
CONCLUSION: Exit programming mode from the last feature that you programme. DON'T use the 'exit programming mode' shown in option in step 2. The ESC will crash and self destruct!

Hey Mitch.
That's exactly the same thing that happened to me. As soon as I exited programming mode, the motor made a really weird noise and then ***f, magic smoke everywhere.
Second time round, I plugged a low capacity 2s lipo into the ESC during programming. Figured the battery wouldn't have enough power to fry the ESC if something went wrong again. All worked fine and I got it set up perfectly, but changed the timing at the field on a charged 3s and it fried on the spot. And I was only changing one feature, then exiting straight away.
My advice to anyone who reads this would be use a weak 2s battery for programming - at least until the programming cards arrive. You'll save yourself the hassle of a warranty claim.
Brent.

I need someone to confirm that the governor function is working well, and that it indeed holds a constant head speed from start to finish and doesn't drop with battery voltage drop like cheaper ESCs can do. An Eagle Tree plot with pitch pumps and detailed info on setup would be nice for a reference.

I can't get the governor to govern my Blade 400. Using a flat throttle curve, with any value from 65% to 85%, the head is spinning like crazy at zero pitch but bogs quite a bit if I feed in any collective input (positive or negative).
The very soft start works nicely, I programmed it with the throttle stick, but I'm wondering if the timing advance could be at fault with the governor.

The manual for the equivalent Hobbywing Platinum states full programminginstructions for TX programming. The only option that seems to require a programmingbox is setting your own custom cut-off voltage.

This is exactly the same thing as HW Platinum. When connected to PC with HW link software it is recognised as a HW device. Governor mode works very well - for 6-8 pole outrunner select Gov Hi and flat throttle at 80-85%. Keep v1.03 firmware if you still have it, because in v1.05 PWM is limited to 12 khz only. I would rather keep the 24 khz capability.
