Will this charge the Turnigy 5000mAh 4S1P 14.8v 20C hardcase pack?
 faux 4 points
Oui le 4s 1p peut ê*tre charger sans problé*me il mettra plus de temps à* charger environ 2h30
 Miguel 56 points
Isn't a good charger for this battery, the max charging rate is 2A, so it'll take too long to charge.

hi there, any one knows how set the amp when i charge 3s/4s? thanks
 sungwca 44 points
There is a slide switch to adjust the amp, slide from 0.5/1/1.5/2 amp.
 zodrik 3 points
Thank…* Maybe my question is not clear,I know how to change the amp on the charger, I was meaning what is the different by charging at 1,5 or 2 amp, just to know the best match for the different type of battery …* thanks I hope it's more clear this time
 sungwca 44 points
Usually I charge at 1C, ie if batt is rated 1000mAH, recommended to charge 1 amp or less. Some new batt have a higer recommended charge rate.

Just want to check if any one knows it this works with a ZIPPY Flightmax 3000mAh 4S1P 20C. I already know the answer just want a confirmation thanks.

charged my 500mah 2s lipo battery about 3 times total, worked fine everytime. but now the display is not working so i have no idea of the batter percentage, so im not sure if its charging or not, any ideas on how to fix this? or is it just a bad product?
 josh 7 points
if you keep an eye on the lights on the side it will let you know that is charging and as the lights turn from red to green the cells are charged
 Etham 97 points
be aware of charging 2 2s batteries connected toghether, for example, thru a powerexpander. It will generate a common ground between them and will cause mal function on the charger and may also damage the batteries. You have to pull out one from the board first and then you may charge 2. If not the case, nevermind. Hope this is usefull for other users. Great charger if this note is considered. Always charge my 35pcnt plane with these, and soon will with a 40pcnt!
 Hanski71 5 points
If percentage display is missing, first cell of your battery is dead. GND-> first -> second...

does this come with wall mount
 jashe 5 points
I have one of these I purchased from Hobby King and it is a very good little charger. I really like the digital display which shows the percentage of charge in each cell. Mine did not come with an AC adapter.
 __mrqs 15 points
No, this one doesn't come with a wall mount. Anyway, I don't thing there's a big problem for any modeler to add such wall mount, because the whole case is put together using screws.
 wyatt 11 points
best way to use them is to hook up straight to a 12V battery, if you live in north america you can hook up straight to your car battery.
Or even goto wal-mart or best buy and get a wall to car converter and wire it to the charger.
dont try this if you have a 24V battery
 xSORWYNx 7 points
I use mine with a car battery charger for the power supply, plenty of amps given.
 eeulalio 6 points
not supported, only small rubber feet and can be plugged directly into the 12v battery in a vehicle as a source

where do take the voltage readouts from when trying to trim individual channels? My Number 3 channel always charges faster than 1&2 (according to the display)
What direction do I turn the pots to adjust the output?

Posible mine Turnigy 420 arrived defective as well... It reads the cell voltages correctly in my 3-cell pack (expressed as % charge) and brings cells 1 & 2 up to 100pcnt as desired But it fails to charger cell 3 at all, which remains at whatever capacity it had when the charger was started.... I am trying to charge 2 new Zippy 3C 1000mAH any hint?

is this charger good for Turnigy 1300mAh 2S 20C Lipo Pack (Suit 1/18th Truck)?
 marpe 137 points
Not just good it is great!

You can charge two of your packs at the same time and they will charge independently (you can remove and add them at any time).

I use three of these wired to charge 4 3S packs.
 seedo 103 points
its perfect for 1300mAh 3s or 2s or even 4s

Just bought the 420 charger and a 2 6000mah lipo's from HK and i cant wait to charge them. However im really confused how to power charger. Can i buy an adapter from Radioshack that converts 120volts to 12volt dc with a 1.5 amp rating, plug it into my wall then to my charger and go?
 JoeHeli 85 points
Yes that will work
 abdulrahman 16 points
Yes, you can use it but you cannot charge batteries with a capacity of more than 1500mah
 Jonathan 1 points
Thank you both very much. I guess ill look for a power supply that has 6 or more amps to charge my 6000mah packs.
Thanks Again
Jonathan
 JoeHeli 85 points
That is not true YOU CAN CHARGE OVER 1500MAH it may take longer that is it.
 marpe 137 points
I have this charger.

The Radio Shack power supply you mention is not sufficient.

You will need at least a 3 or 4 amp supply if charging 4 cells at once (which you can do with two of your 2s1p 6000mah lipos.

It will take awhile (3 hours) to charge empty 6000mah cells as the max charge current from this charger is 2A or 2000mA.
 xSORWYNx 7 points
If you have a car battery charger you can use that also.
Stegs  1 points - 3/2/2011

what type of power supply do i need

The one i use is from a old computer, just installed 2 bananas jacks one red ,one black and wired them to the board with 14Ga wire .Use wire with banana plug on each ends to connect to charger.
 cginard 48 points
you need a 12V power supply and al least 4amp... use your car batery if you dont have and power supply
 Greg 66 points
a 12v car battery works fine in the field, or a regulated power supply for use back at the house is recommended.

So can I not charge a battery higher than 2000mah?
 JoeHeli 85 points
I have the Turnigy 420 balance charger and I charge a 2200mAh 20C 3s and a 3300mAh 20c 3s all the time I have had no problem yet. Just follow normal lipo charging rules.
 cjldad 60 points
You can charge a battery of any size over 500mah..
 Mark 601 points
it will charge any capacity battery, but it just won't charge it faster than 2000mah. The higher the capacity the longer it will take to charge.
helifool  6 points - 2/25/2011

dudeman(7) don't charge at a rate higher than your capacity otherwise you risk fire ie: 500mah=.5, 1000mah=1., 2000mah=2. So can I not charge a battery higher than 2000mah?
 JoeHeli 85 points
You can charge at a lower rate, you just don’t want to charge a smaller battery at too high a rate.
Charging at a lower rate is better for battery but takes longer.
500mha=.5, ok
500mha=1. NOT OK
2200mHa=.5, Ok
2200mHa=1. Ok
2200mHa=2. Ok
 dudeman 18 points
you can charge up to 4 cells of any mah just at a max rate of 2amps
helifool  6 points - 2/25/2011

What amp sholud I use to charge batteries? There are four setting, .5,1.1.5, and 2 amps
 dudeman 18 points
don't charge at a rate higher than your capacity otherwise you risk fire ie: 500mah=.5, 1000mah=1., 2000mah=2.
 JoeHeli 85 points
It depends on the battery mHa
 servohead 5 points
Hi, It depends on the size of the battery that you are charging and the charge/discharge capabilities it is designed to sustain. It is always safest to charge at the lowest amperage rating* it takes longer but your battery will stay healthier longer.

 BillH 54 points
EX: If I am charging 2 two cells at the same time, 1000 mah each, do I charge at 2 amps total ? Or still at a max of 1 amp?
 chulian 125 points
Yes, I charge 2 750mah 2s at the same time, but charger only displays if the first is conected
 Hunter 9 points
yep. you can charge 2 2cell lipos at once.
 dcockburn 6 points
This little charger is ideal for indoor/park models as you can balance charge two 2s packs simultaniously
 jdale 15 points
You can charge 2x 2s at the same time, but your current limit is across all the cells so it'll take twice as long
 cyberjackal 37 points
It's have a 2 two cell battery plug but i dont tryed it
 Paul 10 points
You sure can, I just did it the other day to charge two 2S 800mAh for my Honeybee FP. All cells are charged individually* I used the 500mA setting to keep it under 1C.
 MUSTANG P51 19 points
YES YOU CAN LOOK AT THE PLUG SET UP ON THE END OFF THE CHARGER. THE TOP IS FOR TWO CELL AS WELL AS THE BOTTOM IS FOR TWO CELL . BUT YOU CANT CHARGE A SINGLE TWO CELL ON THE BOTTOM CHARGE JACK . ONLY THE TOP CAN DO THIS.
 John 1 points
Yes! There are 4 ports on the right side of the charger: 2 cell balance, 3 cell balance, 4 cell balance, and 2nd 2 cell balance plug. Search on the internet for pictures and you will see what I mean!

Pluged a 2S lipo today on my new Turnigy 420. Display smoked out and cell number 2 charger doesnt work. Waiting for HK customer service to give me a solution.
 Etham 97 points
Customer service told me to return on my cost the 23dollars charger. Nice. Since i've sent back an DL50 engine 4 months ago and still got no solution, decided to buy another charger and take the failed one and use it as a cup-holder in my desktop. HK is good for prices, but Customer Service s^^ks. Shared opinnion in my club.

I dont know way but my cells light are steel red when the digit display show me 100% for each cell ... way?
and for a batteries with 3 cells, 11.1v, 1800mAh what current I must to select?
 zielonydomek 17 points
Hi ! It is normal. About 20 minutes after 100% you have wait for green. You should use 1.5A Best Regards Tomek
 Matthew 8 points
Charge an 1800 mah at a rate no greater than 1.8 amps. Best to charge slower than the charge capacity.
 Hunter 9 points
will stay red for a while until 'balanced.' then will turn green.
 Carlos 5 points
you have to wait the light are green, because it is balancing, when that finishes lights are green :)
 John 1 points
It's possible that the charger is rounding up to the next (example: 99 rounded up to 100) give it time to finish... For the charge rate, select the amps closest to but still UNDER the mAh of the battery. i.e. 1800 mAh charge at 1.5 Amps. 1300 mAh charge at 1.0 Amps.

Hi..I use this charger with DC13.5 volt input from a 5A supply, and after adjusting the potensiometers inside fully clockwise (CW)gave 4.14, 4.11 and 4.13 volt on a 3S 2200mA. Then i adjusted all the potensiometers fully anti clockwise (CCW)and this helped a bit, 4.17, 4.16 and 4.16 volt. Then i just adjusted the potensiometer for cell 1 a little clockwise. Is it safe to use up to 18V DC input???
 wyatt 11 points
yes, the charger is rated up to 18V, i would avoid putting all the way to 18, but you can go alot higher then 13.5 without problem
Terry  27 points - 12/8/2009

Where do you get instructions for the camera and what do you do when you get error message when you plug it into the computer (USB device is not recognized please unplug and retry)???
kid_spl85  45 points - 12/2/2009

Dear All, Id like to know how you will calibrate this charger, i opened it and found 4 pots for each charging circuit, does turning it clockwise increses charge cut off voltage? one morething is that the readout display charge status as percentage are there any mods to make it as voltage readout?
 kid_spl85 45 points
anyone care to help?
scterry  46 points - 12/2/2009

Does the .5A, 1A, 1.5A, and 2A indicate the current going to each cell or is this the MAX current for the battery back. For example, if charging a 1000mAh 2S Lipo with the 1A setting, will it give .5A to each cell taking 2 hours to charge, or 1A to each cell taking 1 hour to charge (theoretically).
 wyatt 11 points
I think its the battery as a whole, cause otherwise with a 3 cell each cell taking 2A then it would take 6A and thats alot to put through a battery.
itsme  7 points - 11/18/2009

Can this chager chage Lithium Ion batteries? Thanks!

it's only for li-polymer batteries

So when I use this charger do I plug in the balance plug and the battery plugs or just the balance connector
 jonathan 70 points
you plug the balancer plugs into the side and it charges through the balancer
 MUSTANG P51 19 points
JUST PLUG IN THE BALANCE CONNECTOR.
 John 1 points
Balance plug only as there is no connection to charge through the main plugs.

guys i used 12 volt power supply and the charger keep reading the same numbers y is that whats wrong
 MUSTANG P51 19 points
THEY CHANGE AS THE BATTERIES BECOME CHARGED THEY SHOULD GO UPTO 100% THEN ALL THE LIGHTS SHOULD CHANGE TO GREEN WHICH MEEANS THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED.
lalagi  58 points - 9/26/2009

can i charge with 2c the battery?
 T.rex.450 175 points
Hi!

You can charge with 2C if your battery supports 2C charging.
If not I strongly suggest that you only use 1C charging since any more current could make your battery catch fire!!!
Read the battery manufactures instructions and follow them.
Imphaetus  6 points - 9/23/2009

what all does this come with? deans, traxxas, losi, etc connectors?
 T.rex.450 175 points
Hi!
It comes with a connection wire with alligator clips and a plug that fits the charger. This hardness is for connection to 12v.

The plug for connection to batteries is of JST-XH type. You only connect the balance plug and the charger will charge each cell through the balancing hardness attached to the battery. You do not connect the battery discharge plug to the charger at all so it does not matter which plug you are using as long as the balance plug are of JST-XH type (Rhino, Zippy, Turnigy etc use this plug).

You can connect 4s, 3s or 22s batteries to this charger.

This charger arrived defective. It reads the cell voltages correctly in my 3-cell pack (expressed as pcnt charge) and brings cells 2 & 3 up to 100pcnt as desired. But it fails to charger cell 1 at all, which remains at whatever capacity it had when the charger was started. Given the lack of unit testing, you are gambling the cost of returning a defective unit.

Just enough features to get the job done. Great price.
Good parts:
• Overall construction looks good.
• Digital readout is handy.
• Balance charging is consistent.
Bad parts:
• Cell volts off 4.24, 4.13, 4.12 out of the box, but easy to fix. Open the case up and adjust the pots to get proper volts. After adjustment, 4.18, 4.16, 4.16
• Digital readout not linked to charging. 100pcnt doesn't mean done.
• A manual would be nice! WTF Start button?

1/ les courants annoncés ne sont pas là
reels (annoncés)
0,27 (0,5)
0,60 (1)
0,85 (1,5)
1,23 (2)

30pcnt=3,50v
40pcnt=3,55v
etc
100pcn
t

*un principe de charge parfait element par element
*2 accus 2 s en charge ensemble avec le meme courant
* compact, simple, peu cher

This is an awsome little charger, you can choose 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0 Amp rate, the corisponding lights for the cell goes from green to orange when charging and then back to green for each cell when full. The volt percentage cycles through each cell during charge to let know where it's up to. dead simple to use, it also has a cooling fan. Perfect cut off rate at 4.21 volts for each cell. Good on ya H/City, keep these trick products comin'. C ya.
