Easy Fly RTF Glider EPO
Easy Fly RTF Glider EPO

Our Easy-Fly is a large (1.9mtr) RTF glider made from super strong EPO foam.
This model comes pre-built with motor, esc and servos already installed. All you need to do is include your own receiver & battery to be ready to fly in 10 minutes.

The included and installed brushless motor and ESC provides plenty of power for steep climbs. The proven tail design and wing shape make this an easy glider to handle. The Easy-Fly also has a folding propeller to reduce drag as well as motor ventilation and an easy to access canopy hatch for quick battery changes.

Everything is included with this kit, all you need to provide is your own receiver and battery (around 1300mAh 2 or 3S).

Does anyone know if this battery is suitable for this plane? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8932
   pikle6 (29%)
yes it is possible as i use this back and have about 45 mins of flight time each extremely recommended also the motor is a little under powered so change it i did to a 2212/13 motor and flies like a dream you can refer my video's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlSwE-QQa2g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yckcHAKcZkY

Does anyone know if it's possible to use a powerfull motor for this plane? I'm thinking to use it like a JET (speed about 100km/h).
   pikle6 (29%)
no the glider even after a big power system upgrade (nearly double of what is required with a 2212/13) has some wing flex and max i could take it to was about 50 kmph

My ESC does not look like the one in the photo - I am trying to get it going but after binding with my AR500 the ESC is not recognised. Have had it beep but then wont go any further. Does anyone know the process for this. Asked HK but they say they don't give technical advice..Thanks

My ESC came and forced the first crash...burned out after several seconds of flight. Otherwise the binding process was normal. May be it is not working properly as the one I had...

does any body now what the CG is for this plane ? I`ve used the battery room, back of the canopy, and it turned into a crash.... The plane was too tail heavy. The manual does not tell anything about CG

Hi! I have tried 60-80mm from leading edge of wing and now I am flying at 70 and it works fine. With a computer radio you can program down elevator at full throttle - makes the climb more stable. Good luck!

hi the easy fly uses bell crank system hence it has no control horns on the ailerons and the same is true for the rudder but the elevator has them

IMHO If you are considering this as a first plane/trainer i recomend the floater instead. This is a fine plane but will not take kindly to novices mishaps in the engine/spinner/prop dept and replacements may prove ilusive

Hi,. I have a Easy Fly ST-330 , and I have a problem with the tail rather not working, the entire control servers ceased to be frozen, not sure where the problem is. One possibility is that the cable is an attached to the actual rather?? Not sure. The other possibility is the hinge is frozen, but I can move the rather with my fingers. One way fully but only partially. The other way, anybody else experienced a similar problem with this model?.
I have been flying this model, very successfully. Just using ailerons and very quickly learning to fly it.

High, does the easy fly glider , a good glider to learn to fly on?.

Regards, Bob.
   cbr998 (25%)
Bob, if you have flown heavy gliders before then it's ok, otherwise I would not consider it a good beginners plane. It's easy to stall and the provided aileron set up can get 'sticky' so you need to stay on top of what it's doing out there. But with some experience it flys well enough.
   Alan (82%)
IMHO Gliders are rarly a good choice for beginers as their high glide ratio and lack of drag make them hard to land in a "park" enviroment.
   Avramis (15%)
its very good and stand plane . it flies very slow and everybody can lern to fly with this machine

Hello friend, I have this ***********hobbycity****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9340 I had to cut a bit more room in the battery bay, but that was easy. I fly for 30mins and only use 1300mAh on stock motor, the reason for the larger Lipo is that i found the EasyFly to penetrate the wind better and overall handling improve from the extra weight. This is a great glider, i have all my FPV gear in this a 650mAh 3s for Video, it still glides excellent.

Michael (15%)
I was wondering if one could fit a 3 cell 2200 in to the plane
   SoMoney (49%)
Not without relocating the servos. Its tight under the canopy. I was able to cut a belly hatch and slide a 2650Mah under the control rods, but a 2200 is chubby and wont fit there. You might be able to cut a belly hatch wide/deep enough behind the wing spar. If your upgrading the motor/ESC the extra weight in the back sure wont hurt.
   kdaffy (16%)
Why put a 2200.there is no need.it's a sailplane.the motor is needed to gain some height when you start flying and if only there is no wind.i read others trying to put the largest battery but really it's not nesecery.i fly for hours(3 and more) with 1300 mah.
   cbr998 (25%)
I put in a lightmax 3s 2200 and it fit fine, wedges right in, but as kdaffy pointed out, you don't really need it. I flew three flights on it and only put 800mAH back into at recharge time, a lighter 1300 would be a better choice.

I cannot understand what the manual is saying about ESC's brake mode.
   Joran (34%)
Imho the manual is bull****, You can see if the brake is set. On mine they always are. I could not find a reason why you would put the brake off.....
   SoMoney (49%)
Go to RCGROUPS COM and you can look at pictures of people modifying these for FPV!
   Joe (25%)
OK so I'm relatively new to this and I know what setting the brake does, but how can you "see" if the brake is set, simply if the prop stops? Mine windmills so obviously the brake is not set and I can't tell where to fix it. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
   Fernando (50%)
the manual i UNUSABLE...how can they sell such thing? Please, please, I need to set the brake ON in the stock ESC. How can I do that? My ESC has no switches, nor seems to enter programming modes of any kind (as the Turnigys do so easily)

In order for the two aileron surfaces to be levelled in line with the wing, it seems that I would have to get at the set screw on the servo horn... but it is too tight to get in there. Any ideas?

Oh nevermind, it is OK if I use one channel per aileron servo, instead of using the Y-cable.

I wish HobbyCity had stated the physical dimensions allowed for the battery.
I ordered it without any batteries, assuming that my own Polyquest 3S 2200 would fit, and of course it did not.

The size of allowed for battery in the EasyFly Glider is:
20mm by 34mm by 80~90mm
From my own measurements of the internals.
   SoMoney (49%)
That battery dimension is almost dead on to the:

T1600.4S.30
Turnigy 1600mAh 4S 30C Lipo Pack
Minimum Capacity: 1600mAh
Configuration: 4S1P / 14.8v / 4Cell
Constant Discharge: 30C
Peak Discharge (10sec): 40C
Pack Weight: 187g
Pack Size: 90 x 32 x 30mm

Has anyone tested this motor at 14-15v yet? Will probably go near vertical at that kv if the motor doesn't melt.
   SoMoney (49%)
Looks like this pack is the closest fit to max out battery space.
Rhino 1550mAh 3S 11.1v 30C Lipoly Pack
Pack size: 91x33x21mm
   kaon01 (74%)
The T1600.4S.30 would not be a drop in fit.
That 30mm width would interfere with the elevator and rudder pushrods.
Apart from that, the stock ESC and motor might not handle 4S voltage.

The best fitting pack I found in my LHS was "DN Power" 3S 1850mAh, 20C I think.

John USA & PHP (52%)
Purchased an Easy Fly from Hobby City to fly while in the Philippines a few months ago. I have an Easy Glider electric with more than 60 flights in the US. Price and delivery were strong reasons to buy the Easy Fly.

The East Fly was pretty complete and flew well! It was bigger, lighter and had less control throw than my Easy Glider. But that was not a problem and I enjoyed flying it with a HC 1300mah LiPo battery.

After eight flights the motor shaft snapped just behind the propeller. I fabricated a shaft extension from a brass standoff I found and was able to get back in the air for more flights. I ordered a set of TPSHAFT2410 replacement shafts.

When they arrived, I disassembled the Easy Fly motor and tried to remove the nut from the threaded collar that attaches the shaft to the motor bell, but the nut would not budge. I tried something else by doing the following:
Remove the two grub screws (setscrews) from the threaded collar.
Then, taking care not to damage or bend the motor bell, carefully tap the broken shaft with a small hammer, using a screwdriver handle between the hammer and shaft.
Tap both ends of the shaft alternately, until the shaft moves just a little.
Then carefully work the broken shaft it out of the threaded collar on the bell with a pair of pliers.

Next removed the grub screws (setscrews) from the new threaded collar and slip the new shaft from the threaded collar.
I was able to slip the new shaft into the old threaded collar (which was still attached to the motor bell) with only a little gentle force. The slot in the new shaft that is located at the threaded collar was a little further up the shaft than the original shaft. I installed one grub screw with a little foam CA glue, making sure the grub screw went into the slot securely and tightened it down.

Then I installed the other grub screw, again using foam-safe CA glue and tightening securely. Once the motor was reassembled, I installed a couple of 3mm ID washers on the shaft to hold the bearing in place just before installing the C clip. The motor turned true and without any vibration.

One more comment: The canopy clip does not hold well and the canopy comes off on landing and sometimes in flight. You can attach the canopy to the fuselage with some string to prevent it from being lost. Also try using a few strips of adhesive-backed Velcro between the canopy and fuselage to help the canopy stay in place. I used Velcro on my Easy Glider, which also has a ***r canopy latch system and it worked well for the last 40 flights. I plan to o the same with the Easy Fly canopy next.

Best Regards, John
   Alan (82%)
HI John. Sounds like you got it sorted.I find tight parts can sometimes be heated with a cigarete lighter to help release them. Be carefull not to get copper wire/windings too hot as this will cause problems. I never trust magnet canopy catches, too many disapointments.I usualy rig up some way of getting a rubber band accross for insurance.Regards Alan

I used elastic bands the girls use to tie their hair. It's strong and lasts long. Of course I would have my wife buy it for obvious reasons.

Hi,
Anyone can advise me wich glue should I choose for repair a nose crash on this easyfly plane. I tried Super Glue from Loctite but it seams that tend to not glue right away.
Can you please help with instructions and type of glue (I'm in UK).
Thanks
   Runny (49%)
Use hot glue.
It's a bit heavier than Super Glue but binds much faster and is way stronger.
   Tarz1 (36%)
Thanks Runny.
As it ended with the motor parte apart from the rest of the body, using hot glue in that big extention, it could get hard/cold before i finish aplying it (in all extention).
I'll give a try to Loctite Super Glue and probaly will buy an activator to speed up the set process.
That's good to know that hot glue works well on elapor as well *)
   bongofirefly (57%)
5min Appoxy works on fome the best Super glue just melts it and looks bad. Hot glue does not give the nessicary work time and is not as strong and light like Appoxy is.
   Tarz1 (36%)
Well, hot glue sets fast and is very very strong on epo. Certenlly more heavy. I would advise Epoxy if you have time to set it, hot glue if weight is not an issue and finally CA (Cyanoacrilate, SuperGlue) if it is small dents (takes a while to set).
   mikec@aloha.net (0%)
With hot glue, you can move the broken piece. CA is strong but you put it on and that's it. Finish. But it's personal preference.

I bought one of these a few weeks back, i have no idea on the specs for the motor and really dont care, it flies beautifully as it is. easy to launch, pulls straight up for a couple of hundred feet, and then takes for ever to come back down. if the motor or anything burns out or breaks, for the price this is i will toss it out and buy another one.

Anyone experienced that the aft servos won't work? They are completely dead, and if i connect the elev servo while the two aileron servos are plugged, one of the aileron servos die too. No combination seems to work. Have used same setup as my other (Elipsoid) motor glider and a blank setup, and swapped receivers, to no avail. I use 7-ch tx and receiver, Hitec. And the elev servo plug was a symmetrical type that I had to cut bevels on for it to fit the receiver slot. What can I do, will HK assume responsibility and send me new servos? Hints & aid very welcome, thanks!
Sven
   svenhaa (50%)
Answering myself here: The aft servos had plugs that had to be entered the other way round, relative to the normal wing servo plugs. Got the idea checking this when I saw that cable colours were oppposite. It all came to life when I cut bevels on the other side of the plugs. So simple. Big relief.

LOL gave you a point for engaging brain and checking you plugged it in correctly and finding out you didnt !!

enjoy flying it, Mines been through the wars, broken wings, tail plane, motor (tower pros are fine replacements) and its full of glue and duct tape to hold it together and it still flies great. Makes a great slope model also, if the wind dieas down being powered it safes a walk down the hill !!

I often fly it and an electric Gentle Lady over my full house birds

I just ordered an Easyfly from HC but I am curious about the way you operate the throttle with standard HC configuration. My problem: Can you ajust the powerrange from 0% to 100% with your throttlechannel on the transmitter or is it 100%power or a full stop? More important: does the esc brakes the propellor (or the motor) after you disengage the power so the propellor will foldback and how you manage this with your sticksetting on your throttle setting on your transmitterchannel. I have a simple 4 channel transmitter. I hope you Guys can help me out!

I have put on a much bigger motor but now often the ailerons just dont respond to a right turn at all, have to climb and slow down to get movement again, I have already added carbon rods and heavy reinforsed tape to the ailerons so next thing is to try mixing rudder in and increasing aileron area .Maybe another 10mm to the existing ailerons , has anyone found a solution to this problem

I like it a lot, this is my first foamy/first powered glider. First flight it was a little tail heavy, all I had to do was slide the battery pack forward a little forward and then it flew like a dream. Can't wait to take it out tomorrow. One issue I had was that the little brass fitting that connects the elevator control horn to it's pushrod, was mounted on the wrong side of the horn so it didn't line up...and it broke when I tried to remove it to turn it around.I had to make a z-bend. Other than that, I am real happy. The price is great too. It took less than ten days to get here (New Mexico USA) from Hong Kong. That is perfectly acceptable :) 5 stars. It's my second time buying from hobbycity**** and so far so good.

copperfly (68%)
Got the this glider last week and have several good flights so far.

One problem however is the left wing droops down about 1.5" (at the tip) lower than the right wing. I need to compensate for this with constant down aileron on the left wing which causes extra drag. Any ideas on how to adjust the wing so it is level. Tried to shim but no luck....
Thanks any suggestions.
