Just wondering what sort of flight times you getting with the recommended battery, and how big of a battery it could take? Thanks
 Ricardo 2 points
You can fly, in average, about 15 minutes with a 1300mah battery... I have 3 batteries and usually I fly all day without any problem. My nano-tech 1300 fits perfect on it.

I love mine! I dos have it's weak point but survived a serious crash into a guy wire that almost ripped it in half. It glued back together nicely and with a little spackle, paint and epoxy flies great. The elevator hinge is weak and I advise taping it before you fly it. I use a BQY 30C 2280mAh battery that just fits the compartment and the balance / CG works very well. The tail surface and elevator are weak and I've had to reinforce the center of the elevator with epoxy and cloth. It looks great in the air!

just got it today.was a bit dissapointed with acouple of things, first was it is not epo, second it has a weak prop and doesnot look like the picture.i also have been watching flitetest guys on youtube and the f6f they review from hobbyking is nothing like this. i hope i am better impressed when i take her up.
 ian 1 points
look on the bright side buck mine came today and the tail end of the fuse had broke off this had happend whilst shipping bit of glue good as new then i charged up the battery 1300mah and ran it in the airframe to find out the flight time 2-3 minutes bit poor really. But on the up side this is supposed to be a really good aircraft ive seen the vid the flitetest one i dont think its made by freewing the one they fly bit misleading admittedley
 Darmo 14 points
That is not the hellcat they reviewed in flitetest they must have stoped making it because i cannot find it anywhere but the one in flitetest was better in evey way i have personally seen it fly and its great but not this one

What all do I need to purchase with this airplane to get it in the air?
 bruce 5 points
I would recommend an OrangeRx R610 receiver and any $pektrum compatible transmitter. Also, consider 2200mAh batteries, as this will give you longer flight times.
 sharls 71 points
Matt if you new in rc plane this plane is not suitable for you.... warbird carachter need speed and this bird is low wing if you want try dosent matter just need transmitter(turnigy 9 channel) , reciver(package with Tx) and batteries 1300mAh 3s 20c*30c because this plane is PNP(plug and play all 80% install just need 1 or 1/2 hour then you can c this bird on air
 ian 1 points
if its your first rc aircraft matt buy a high wing trainer learn to fly with it in the long run it will save you a lot of expence their a lot more forgiving in flight

I have just ordered the F6F Helcat but the recommended batteries ( 1300mAh 3S1p 15C ) are all on back order. can anyone suggest a suitable alternative that will have me flying by Xmas.

I used 2200mAh 3S 20C and it fits right in. the plane actually needs some more weight in the front and of course longer flight time. I would suggest you to get 2200mAh. the plane can handle it fine. I even use nano tech 2200 4S in the same battery bay without mods.

this is my set up turnigy 2200kv propTGS 5x5E lipo 1300 3s 25*30c and ecs 40A you can c how faster that plane *)
 Tae 2 points
Mine is 1200kv turnigy motor with 8x4 prop on 4s. It s not superfast but has a lot of thrust.
 sharls 71 points
if you want more fast for this plane try this my 2nd set up NTM KV3000 2800mAh 4s 30c ESC 80w/bec*flush prop4.75x4.75 *)good for dog fight

Anyone using 4S batteries with this. Also its a straight wing so how is its slow turn characteristics. Since this is supposed to be a park flyer and my park is not big I need to do lots of turns fats & slow.
 Tae 2 points
Yeah, after I crashed the stock set up with drained battery with dead stick, I changed the stock motor with Turnigy D2830-11 1000kv, turnigy plush 40amp esc, and APC 8x6 prop on a nano tech 2200 4S. it still flies like it's on rail and still very stable in low speed. But when I floor it, it's really fast way beyond parkflyer level.
Tae  2 points - 8/20/2012

I am looking to replace the motor with more capable one. I have a 7x6 2 blade prop. Turnigy 40A ESC and 3S set up for this plane. Which motor do you recommend from Hobbyking for faster speed ? With direct bolt on. Thanks.
 mica 16 points
look into the turnigy park flyer section for motors, the hellcat has a ton of power as it it but if you really want to go vertical try the Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 2830-1020kv Brushless Outrunner Motor, heres the www.link this helped :)

Just brought one of these beasts. Can anyone tell me what spare servos I should get from HK. Item number please. I do have HXT900 9g/1.6 12sec. Would they be ok but look a bit big without seeing the aircraft
 mica 16 points
your probably gonna need some nine gram servos but if you plan on doing anything crazy definetly go metal gear, just to be safe. i personally love this servo: www.link cheap, metal geared so it runs cooler, fast and on top of that, digital

How many space for battery has it? I have this battery already I want to know if it fits. ProductID: N1800.3S.65
 ~flyhigh~ 80 points
I’*m afraid your battery not suitable. I’*ve tried to put my RHINO 1750 25C. Suitable, but probable all available battery compartment space (92x33x24 mm) was occupied.
 ogre1 30 points
You can however close the battery opening on the bottom and cut in a new one at the top of the fuselage, just in front of the canopy. i did this on mine and i was able to get a nanotech 2260 3s in there with no problem, used the foam i cut out as a hatch with some earth magnets for closing power.
 mica 16 points
i would just stick with an 1800, keeps weight down and less chance of the hatch poping out mid flight

there are no spare parts for this plane as the airframe is so inexpensive. i have the same one crashed it, and then rebuilt it and painted it with lowes, fan fold underlayment and a little bit of hobby filler (lightwieght spackle)

Is it EPO foam? What are the dimensions of the battery compartment? Thanks
 MrRCFlyyer 744 points
Its EPP Foam excellent choice for a warbird would not be brittle for the battery compartment dimensions i have no idea.
 thanos_kal 12 points
The Battery compartment fits exactly the turnigy 1800mAh 3s /20c battery so the dimensions are 110 x 34 x 21mm
 SMOGHFORFUN 10 points
It's made of EPP and it's solid and durable! For the battery compartment, I suggest you to cut the hard plastic wall inside the compartment, and it will fit also bigger battery!!

Will this ever be stocked in the Australian warehouse?
 LaserBeam 744 points
I hope so mate cause the Hellcat looks like a good flier. Adding this to the collection if they do *)
 ANLUCAS 147 points
Keep in mind that this model has been in production for at least a couple of years so it will probably won't be around for much longer to make it to the AUS warehouse. It's a great plane. I got one a couple of months ago and ever since, 4 of my flying buddies got it as well.

It's shipping cost is not that much from the HK warehouse.

Hi,

has anyone found any instructions on how to program the ESC?
 CrashinDutchman 281 points
Is the ESC labeled with RICCS? If so, it is like someone from Germany reported, and you can find more details about the esc here (remove spaces): h t t p : // www . riccs . net / view / product / list.php?sid=27. There should be a manual on that site, but it links to a 'directory listing denied' page. However, you can email them
 ANLUCAS 147 points
Well, I am ditching this ESC because it goes into heat protection after a few minutes.
Denis  6 points - 1/3/2011

Can you use a two prop on this model and what would be the size. I ordered a few three blade props but I was going to use the plane in a field around the house and want to belly land it and not ruin the props that I ordered with the plane. Please help
 ANLUCAS 147 points
I think an 8x6 should do fine with 3S. I 'll post as soon as I get mine.
 Denis 6 points
Thanks will wait to hear back from you. I should be getting mine this week once it clears Customs.
 Denis 6 points
Arrived today and it looks great cant wait to get this bird in the air. I think it will fly great.
 ANLUCAS 147 points
Just got it today. After 30 mins it was in the air. What a nice plane. Everybody at the flying field liked it. Flew it with a 2200 3S and was just flying it at half throttle. Even put in a 2200 2S and it flies very "scale" at full throttle and forever. This bird just wants to stay up in the air. Have to give it plenty of space or some down elevator to bring it down.
A 8x6 2blade works fine. It would even fly well with a 7x6 or 7x5 2blade if you want to belly land.
 Denis 6 points
Thanks for the information greatly appreciated. Ran into a problem. I cant get the engine to run. I was able to get three servos running but one wire is broken (easy fix) But I tried everything to get it running. I tried three receivers but still nothing.
 ANLUCAS 147 points
Have you checked that the motor wire bullets have not been unplugged from the ESC wires?
 Denis 6 points
This was checked and I have one more thing to check this evening and will get back to you if it works. What fun it will be to get it in the air. This wont happen today as we have just received over a foot of snow overnight and it is still coming down. Maybe put some ski's on it but spring will be here soon.
 ANLUCAS 147 points
The landing gear comes off pretty easy, you could belly land it on snow. Have to change to an 8x6 prop though.
 Denis 6 points
Still cant get the motor to run. It may need to be replaced at this time. This is a concern and will need to send a message to Hobby King on this one.
 Denis 6 points
Well contacted Hobby King and they want me to sent the entire plane back to them for warranty. All I asked was for a replacement motor to be sent but it seems that they want me to pay over $100 to send it back. If they check it out and it motor is malfuctioning. They will credit my account but will NOT ship a plane to me. If I want a replacement plane I have to pay for the shipping again. Looks like I will have to purchase my planes locally for the warranty work to be covered.
 ANLUCAS 147 points
Yeah, go figure - very disappointing. It's much cheaper to buy a $5 motor and forget about the "warranty".
 ANLUCAS 147 points
Yes, I ve tried a 8x6 and a 9x6. The 8x6 is more than enough. With the 9x6 the amps rise too much.
Henrique  4 points - 12/30/2010

should i buy any replacement piece for this plane, before buy this( hinges) the hinges in this plane are made from paper! are the puch rods stronge? what about the landing gear? ill it need to be reinforced?
 Henrique 4 points
maybe
 ANLUCAS 147 points
The only things you will need are CA hinges, a small (20/30mm x 7mm) real wheel and a 2.1mm wheel stop.

My real original real wheel came loose in flight and I replaced it. The plastic screw-on wheel stops come off with vibration.

I replaced the elevator/rudder hinges.

The landing gear is super strong.
robertgog  28 points - 9/9/2010

Why you change date. I order this plane on 1.09 and there was '1/09/2010 Stock available and arriving from the back-warehouse within 3~4 day'. Now is 9.09 and there was no stock update.
 Henrique 4 points
are you talking to hobby king service???
Duddly  21 points - 8/2/2010

What kind of servo arms do the rudder and elevator use. Mine didn't come with any. Is the hatch suppose to come with magnets?
 Duddly 21 points
My rudder and elevator servos didn't come with servo arms, does anybody know what kind of servos they are, or which servo arms they use.
 Henrique 4 points
wtf? why does this packages don't came with the supose stuff? if it doesn't came, you just need to reply and send them your package, and they ill replace it! I got a a380 from hobbyking, and it was missing the fan from the duct fan, and they send me the fan by mail with no adding coust
 Henrique 4 points
it doesn't matter what type are the servo arms just pick ones and ajust to your model
Kaffine  66 points - 6/16/2010

I've managed to break the X shape motor mount and want to replace it, what motor is it so I can match it to an accessory kit. As I bought it second hand I'm not sure if the motor is stock. Its a blue can with Black ends. I know its a bit vague but can anyone help?
 Henrique 4 points
you have to tell the motor name...
 David 2 points
The motor is a 1250 kv brushless bell motor. Ithink it may be h-king not sure David carmack
fanny  511 points - 3/29/2010

I'm not geting a very long flight on the standard set up with my 1500mah Batteries. Is this because of the 3 blade prop? Anyone else finding this too?
 Henrique 4 points
but why aren't you using a 1300mah batery? actualy, the 3 blade prop has a biger air surface, and can move the air faster, the only problem could be the streght that the motor is making to move the prop and get those high Rpm. probably your batery cells aren't balanced, try to buy a device that check the balance of each cell...
fanny  511 points - 3/14/2010

Mine was missing magnets to hold belly hatch in place (servo and radio access)This will require sorting as it does come adrift in flight. Also battery compartment is extremly tight. Otherwise a lovely model
 Tom 1 points
Alan, What did you do for a replacement belly hatch cover? I lost mine and need a replacement.
 fanny 511 points
Sorry Tom, I found mine and "tacked" it in with small amount of glue (don't nead to go in there much)I recomend you make a replacement out of s**** foam.Perhaps you can make a template out of cardbourd as a guide.
fanny  511 points - 2/19/2010

Richard* Thanks to you and your cameraman for the great video and review on this plane (see address in Reviews). Great how you kept her so close to the camera on the maiden flight. Some people are saying she is underpowered but your short takeoff run and climb sugested otherwise. were you using stock motor CG etc? Have you kept her stock? Lets have some more videos please guys.( That HK mustang on the table perhaps?)

I just still can not believe what a JOY it was to fly that HellCat by FreeWing!

She was a true PussyCat in the Air and no bad habbits at all.....well....the video will show that on two occasions, I throttle down to dead stick and the HellCat continued to glide like a true Park Flyer and very Scale.

The body language I was making is to describe the Propeller Torque the model exhibited as it is extremely light (a very good thing) and that the Brushless ESC should be looked into to try and program the throttle to Soft Start as when I slowly throttle up to turn ON the motor it starts with just too many RPMs and hence the Propeller Torque effect.

Wonderful Model!!

I Loved it!

This is the "much discussed" F6F, It is obvious from my other posts that I love WW11 warbirds, and spend a great deal of time building them, but sometimes projects get long and you need something quick. With this in mind, I went for this as a "bit of fun" , not expecting anything special, especially looking at the price tag. I bought mine from Hobby City at a rediculously low price, including all servos fitted, spare three bladed prop, 1300Mah Lipo, 18Amp Esc, charger etc etc ...amazing........And added to that it flies as well !!! VERY VERY well !!! It is definately a park flyer, but a damn good one !!

The cockpit canopy had to be removed to install some *furniture* in the office , and some *weathering* but apart from that....totally stock...

If any of you guys want a good reasonably scale warbird for park flying....and don't want to spend a huge amount of money or time...THIS AEROPLANE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

BTW I WILL cover up those orange servo wires. I posted some pictures in the Hobby City Community

I converted the stock engine and esc to the Towerpro BM2409-12T combo with 25A esc and 8x3.8 combo prop. No good with the stock engine. Its not unstable, but just flies slow without good direction.
NOW it flies very very good and strong in the sky. Very happy.... The stock engine is the typical for an rtf - it flies but only slow, with no challenges. Very recomended park flyer (once modified) for someone who has little time to complete a kit.

It's vimeo.com/(number), carlos dude!

A great looking, great constructed, easy flying, easy to assemble plane ... but ..... the 18 Amp Brushless system is a bit annemic, even pretty obvious from Carlos' video. Jesus, who taught you guys how to land? Lawn dart landings, Yikes! Anyway, look for a good 25 amp motor and ESC to replace the stock one after you get your feet wet with it stock.
