Does anyone know the number of poles (magnets?). I know I could have count them myself, I glued the magnets with cyano but forgot to count and now it's built in... My CC 100 ICE would like to know the number of magnets. Please help!
Does anyone knows the dimension of the propo adapter?
Because i would like to buy a spinner for this motor, but i don't know if the adapter is M5 or M6 or something else!
Thank you very much! Flo

Does anyone know the dimensions of the mounting holes? Also, what connectors come with this motor? The picture shows female 4mm plugs, but the other Turnigy motors I purchased have the male 4mm plugs.
Does this motor have the same mounting setup as the 50-55 650kv Turnigy SK?

Attila (28 points);
Which mounting holes? On the motor itself or the mounting "cross"? The motor comes with a set of matching connectors, males soldered on the motor winding wires and females provided to solder onto the ESC wires.

I have received this motor last week. After installing it in my Extra 300S I did a test run without prop. After a few seconds the main bearing in the firewall died. Does anyone know where I can get replacement bearings?
Thanks
Reply:
Attila (28 points);
Any 16x8x5 bearing will do. On the stator side at least (the end where the wires come out).
Attila (28 points);
I can't pull the bearing out and it doesn't have the dimensions like the rear, but what I can measure like that seems to be 12x8x5.

this motor works well on mid or high timing. draws more current and has a bit quicker punch on high timing... but to me this is a disadvantage as I want the throttle feathering capabilities for 3d work... glue the magnets.

Hi im using the motor in a hanger 9 funtana x50 with turnigy 80amp plush 3s2p in series. 16x10e prop have an issue with it starting in reverse or its not sure which way to go intermittently? i have tried it on low mid and hi timing still does it. this happend in flight and caused a hard landing as i lost power any help is much appreciated.
Cheers Chris

Sounds weird. Have you tried to change Startmode also? With big props it might be better to use Soft or Very soft mode..
Matthias (39 points);
you probably have too long wires from the battery to the ESC. Or you may add some extra capacitors there. It's not the motors problem, I had the same issue with a Sentilon 100A HV and 12S battery on a SK63-74. I bought a Phoenix 85HV and all problems are gone. It's probably a clever start-up algorithm in these ESCs, which the Turnigys do not have.
Be careful, when the motor is not running as supposed to do, this generates too high DC load on the motor and may burn it up. (I measured about 15Amps during this "reverse" phase -> with smoke out of the motor **- when running normally, it takes over 90Amps, stays rather cool!)
Ben (3 points) 6/10/2009
Hi All, Should I be glueing the magnets. Some say high timing sorts the issue out, others say glue them. What is best. Should i glue and change the timing? Is medium timing better? Motor is for Cap 232 60
Reply:
blueocean2 (9 points);
I put thin cyano over the magnets to be extra sure and i'm also using high timing.It gives little more power(and takes amps) with high timing, but also works very well.

I am looking to convert my glow U Can Do 3D 60 to Electric. This motor seems to be a good choice. Which prop should I choose for 3D flight? I use a 15x4 with glow.
BPGoa (1047 points) 5/20/2009
i use this motor reversed on the angel 50 s. release the grubscrews and press the shaft through. leave enough shaft there to mount the safety collar that comes in the kit. threadlock the whole lot up.
I would also recomend popping the outrunner off and adding extra glue to the magnets. my motor threw 4 in flight.

Can anyone tell me what glue they use to hold the magnets down. Mine looks to be some sort of black adhesive. I have multiple magnets that need to be set in and glued down. Is there any tips on how to hold them in location prior to glueing them. I have a hard time keeping in the right position. I made spacers but they keep juming to another magnet...Thanks Kevin
BPGoa (1047 points);
I would suggest a rubberised cyno ( locktite 4308 or 430). this is what I used on recommendation from the product specialist at locktite. A layer of sticky tape can help. tack them with the cyno (you must use the correct kicker) then remove spacers. then wick the glue under the magnets from each side.

Can this motor shaft be reversed? Can someone point me to some procedures?

Does anyone know which standoffs will fit this motor.Thanks

Maybe this may help you. It's a motor mount that should fit. I do not have one so please read carefully. ***********hobbycity****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=5312

I'm running this motor in my angel 50s on an apc 16x10e prop with 6 cell 3700 rhino cells, a turnigy 80 amp plush speed controller and it's pulling 48 amps at wide open throttle and the plane held static.

What are the dimensions of this motor?

BPGoa (1047 points);
what is says on the tin - 50mm diameter by 65mm of Rotor length - shaft sticks out long enough to clear a 6mm firewall and get a prop adapter on.

Is this 8-10% more efficient than turnigy 50-65 400kv motor? How do these 2 motors compare? Is this new one much better? Thanks
Reply:
Gary (11 points);
I haven't tried the 50-65 400kv just the 50-55 600kv and 400kv. The 50-65 has a 30mm rotor and the 50-55 has a 20mm rotor. Thats a big improvement.
Hello! I have a great model 2.3 m and weigh 5.5 kg. This engine power is more than enough. I had a few different porpelerjev, so I cautions each other can compare ... After a few flight I realized that the model vertically literally 'draw' in height. Model is 5.5 kg and measured engine pulling a little under 10 kg. That is to say once more. 20x10-8s rhino 4900 mAh - 3245 w - 117 A. 17x8 8s rhino 4900 mAh - 2178 w - 67A I recommend this engine

I put this Turnigy Aerodrive XP SK 50-65 380Kv on an Ultimate Dash 300S from Eurolight (1m40 wingspan). The total weight is about 4,6 kg (with 8S 4150mAh battery).
Here are the magic numbers: - with 6S lipo (4000mAh) and a 16x10 prop I have 42.5 A - with 8S lipo (4150mAh) and a 16x10 prop I have 74.8 A If you use the Turnigy 100A ESC you need to choose middle timing (or eventually high) but not the low timing!
I think this propeller (16x10) is a little bit to big and there is a some vibration. I recommand a 16x8 or 15x10...

I have been using this motor on a Hangar 9 Ultra Stick 60 with 6S2P A123 (about 35 flights so far). What an absolute joy it is with this motor and battery combination. I have used a variety of props from a 16-8 to a 17-10. Peak amp draw with the 17-10 is around 46 amps and just under 1000 watts. I prefer the 16-12 for a little more pitch speed and slightly lower amp draw. Flight time is easily over 11 with normal throttle control.
This motor runs extremely cool and has no vibration or other problems. I'm running it with an HXT 80A ESC on high timing and a Turnigy BEC with a 2S 800 mah Lipo. AUW is 7.5 lbs and wing loading is about 18oz/sqft. All the nitro flyers at my field are amazed by the power and flight time I get with this combination.
Highly recommended...

Wow !!! Awesome motor - awesome price. Here my test values with 6s, APC 20x8 and Plush 100A ESC: 6610 rpm , 8.4 kg thrust , 86A , 1850 W
Perfect for light weighted F3A or 3D machines with 1.70m - 2.00m wingspan. I will fly it in a Sebart Wind S and my buddy in a Sebart Katana 140. We compared the motor to a Axi 5320/18 on 6s, APC 20x8 and Jeti Spin 99 ESC (together €500.-). Exactly similar power, better response on quick power changes.

Awesome motor. very high quality as far as I can tell. Matched up on my sebart sukhoi 50e with turnigy 80a esc, 16x10e prop, and 6s 3700 mah rhino lipo. Unlimited vertical, more than enough power. Takes off at 1/4 throttle and hovers at 1/2 throttle. Would recommend to anyone.

On a hangar 9 P-51 plane and it flies great, the first one was imbalanced but the replacement is great. I have 3 of these babies now.
Running APC 16x12 (NOT an E PROP) 2 blade Pulling 1286 Watts at Full Throttle.
Plane flies awesome, I call it silent fury, because thats exactly what it is, easily the same power a very strong 90 size nitro motor but with longer flight times and no Nitro Goop or mess to clean up.
Thanks Hobbycity!

Great motor, I'm running it on 6s lipo in a LST converted to brushless with a direct to diff drive setup. I tried a 50-55 and it got too hot and didn't have much low end. This motor only gets warm and has tons of low end torque. My esc also runs allot cooler.

Excellent motor. I received one of the first SK batch and it had the same orange finish as the 'normal' Turnigy (not black like on the picture). Very high build quality. However, it seems these motors must be operated at high timing or they could loose magnets (info from a friend, never had problems myself with the Turnigy motors). Intending to put this one on a 210cm, 6kg Stampe biplane using 6S 5000mah lipos and a 18*8" prop.

The motor is so smooth.
The plane flies fantastic never really needing more than half throttle to do anything and delivering (F3A FLYING) approx 15 - 18 mins flying time.
on it's fourth flight it threw four of its magnets.

So to summarize everyone's info...it's clear that the motor performs well up to 6s, 70A. Beyond that, it still handles higher power but it becomes far less efficient. This is not a problem with the motor itself. For best results it appears that 1400-1500W is maximum and 900-1000W is efficient. i.e. 16-17 inch prop on 6s 4000pack up to 16 inch x 8s or equivalent.

I've mounted this motor in a Greatplanes PT-17. It is equal to a .90 glow engine. 10+ minutes on a 4000ma 6S1p Zippy. It likes high timing and swings a 16x10 prop. Plane's AUW is 13 lbs. Great motor for very reasonable price.

This TGY AerodriveXP SK motor was used on a senior telemaster with 6s 4400mah batteries. At one mile above sea level, the motor pulled 34 amps on a 16x8 Topflite wood prop for 7200rpm. With a 15x6 JXF prop, the motor pulled 27amps for 7600rpm. At 10 minutes flying time, the motor is cool. The motor seems to be built very solidly and the accessories that come with it are a big bonus. Still undecided whether it is worth the extra money over the regular turnigy brand.
