For this servo MG makes no sence. In order to keep weight under control only plastic would be resonable. Otherwise weight will be much higher.

I use these on small foam planes, up to about 30" span, (3mm foam) for aileron, elevator, rudder. They are also OK for rudder on planes that are a bit larger, or ailerons if you have one per aileron and ailerons aren't huge (like a 3d plane has).

You are joking, right? This is THE standard servo used by scratch builders all over the world. Literally, the entire world! Go take a look at RCGroups, RCUniverse, Wattflyer, or anyplace else where scratch builders post their stuff. This is the servo they use, man. I've used a hundred of them over the last couple years. They're my favorite.

any smaller foamie, mini 3D,
slowflyer etc. they are just a tad lighter and smaller than the 900's and with .8 kilos of yank on them can be used anyplace you want in a lighter slower model. you could always put em' up on ebay for a fair price to recover your mistake - someone will buy them as long as you don't get greedy.

I can't give you an exact model name but it is usually adviced to choose servos with a torque nearly about the plane's flying weight unless the plane is extremely aerobatic or too fast. So, they may be used safely in many models with a flying weight under 800 grams. In elevator and rudder one servo may operate for each. But in ailerons, it is much better to use one servo for each aileron surface instead of driving two of them with only one servo. If you mount two aileron servos symmetrically with their horns pointing opposite directions, you may use a Y cable for signalling them so that they will work properly.

It is not worth for the price, but maybe for the learning. You soldered the wires to the wrong terminal or the servo lost a trace in the printed circuit. The signal of the internal feedback pot is not being sensed.

Every servo comes with several different arms. Did you use all of those? The cross-shaped ones could be clipped off and used as standard arms. I do it all the time.. Stil have dozens of them lying around.. Could send you some if you're from Holland? (would be too expensive for international)

I notice that the wires are color coded differently from a futaba servo. I assume that the red wire is the same as the red for futaba. Does the yellow wire relate to white and brown wire relate to black on the futaba servo? It looks like with the universal connector, it would be easy to plug them in upside down and get the polarity wrong.

David

I will answer my own question in case someone else needs to know. I got the correct answer on another RC forum. Brown relates to the black wire on a Futaba servo and is ground. The orange (or yellow) wire is signal and relates to the white wire on a Futaba servo.

Yes, the servo was overloaded. These are way too small for anything but small foamies, I'm surprised they worked at all. You should use at least a 9g HXT900 servo or equivalent for a plane of that size. Like it or not, that is why you lost your plane.

I fly fullsize DLG's with the HTX500* of course these only weight 250-300 grams but forces can be severe. Still, none of them ever failed me - and I used 30+ of them in planes. Sounds like just bad luck to me. Too bad for your plane though.

Don't say such things ) These servos are perferct in the cost/quality ratio. I thing your problem was you used HXT 500 in your model instead of HXT 900. For the plane above 400 grams HXT 900 are prefered.
P.S. Always check the "crispy" sound in the servo before flight - if it crisps just fit a new one - they ARE really cheap!
