That is an awesome little project. What kind of battery (cells and mah) did you use to accumulate / regulate the voltage? I love the idea and I would like to build one some day. Under a sunny day, can it stay up indefinitely if you are gentle on the controls?
My current knowledge of solar panels tells me that you'd only get a fraction of an amp with this kind of surface. How can that actually power everything on the plane? Are the panels only used to recharge the battery on the ground? Thanks.
Hi, this was a project for school made almost 4 years ago.I used a zippy 1000 mAh 3s. The main idea was extend the flight time with the solar cells. I build a charger using L200 chip for charge the battery during the flight and at the ground. I made some tests and I get about more 2 min of flight time. For better results this plane should be a glider and will need more solar cells. Each cell gives 100 mah and 7.2V. The 10 cells gives 500mah and 14.4V.
Sorry guys , but HXT900 is digital servo for sure. I use them in all my parkfly models and works very well . It's the very good micro servo and very cheap .
No. Sorry with you Andrej1175, but as Santhosh correctly asserted, Hextronik HKT900 servo has analog modulation. Just blug it to rx. Digital servos use to mutter all the time while powered. Anther test: power a digital one and try to move the arm **> Almost imposible without making damages on gear* Not the same with analog ones.
These are definitely analog. First, it says so in the description. Second, the circuit board inside the bottom panel of the servo does not have a logic chip that would be required for the servo to function as digital.
No, it's not the same servo, the little circuit board inside looks a bit different and the servo arms ARE NOT interchangeable, I just tried them, also I've also got some turnigy TG-9 servo's and the arms are a match with the HXT-900 servo's.
I've only bought 5 and one was crook on delivery, I put it in the video section if you want to see it, it's like a jumping bean! hobbyking did replace it. So sirgarfield consider your self EXTREMELY lucky.
I use them in my blaster and they work well, I even put them in the wings though they are a bit too fat for a nice fit but I'd rather use these then the sd150s which cost 10 times the price and have been lasting only a few months b4 going faulty.
Hallo "charles2690", with 4amps, you can use more than 6 of these servos at no problem, at least i do years now, prefer to use low voltage bateries (2sell lipo) and just a good quality bec,,,,
what is the amp draw of this servo? How many can you put on a 4Amp SBEC? Would there be any difference if it was another type of BEC? I know I have a lot of question...thanks
I've had zero issues running 6 of these alongside of an HK17 gram servo without issue, using them in a glider with crow and landing gear so all servos get used during landing on only 3amp esc internal bec.
A turnigy 9018MG servo running with 4.8 volts normally operates at 200ma. HXT900's are considerably smaller and less powerful servos so although I cant say for sure they must be around 150ma draw. This in turn means that you shouldn't experience any problems at all with 6,8 or even 10. I guess if they all stall at the same time then 10 might be pushing it but this extremely unlikely.
I agree with Thomas10, you would have to run all servo's at full power (stall 450ma) at the same time to cause any problems and if you've stalled 6 or more servo's at once then the bec would be the least of your problems! with flaps and landing gear there only used momentarily, so on a 4amp bec you could easily use 6 servo's....I'm talking 9g servo's here, if your using bigger servo's then that changes everything.
There is a chart from Jurgen on the EZ thread RC Groups 4089301 showing a max amp draw of 698mA for the HXT 900 and only .89g torque. This still remains my favorite small servo.
why not have the carbon gears in these servos? just because of color it was changed back to white? ridiculous. carbon gears are an improvement for strength and durability. this is a step back.
The gears were actually at one point carbon but they changed back because they started to get jittery at maximum throw. I liked them though as I could deal with a little wiggle for a much stronger gear set. I agree that it is a step back. Also just to clarify, it went from black plastic to black carbon to white plastic (thats as far back that I've been buying from hobbyking anyway).
regardless of the rave reviews this servos gets, it's still under $3. you won't have a perfect running servo at this price. but the wiggle you mentioned is there.
i never had any probs with white ones( no wiggle).first set of black ones i brought , i liked the colour.started wiggling(no probs)but 1 actually jamed by itself at full throws (wasnt callibrated at full end points)on maden flight(hk parkjet)lucky it was on ground testing.regardless of all this i agree with you mike(on price etc) but will still buy these servos for my scratchbuilds if they are still problem free,but will consider buying different for higher priced planes (im cheap but not dumb i think)lol:)oh happy days
i'm cheap too and like cheap for cheap planes but will use better grade servos with better planes. i don't have any complaints with this servos. cheers to ya!
guys these are great little servos light strong and minimal play in gears they center and trim well and i got them in plans going close to 100 mph as far as 9g nylon gear servos these are top of the line all i ever use in my foamy jets
and they have taken numerous crashes lol
Yes they are good for bixler, I also put a HK-D933MG on the elevator just in case one faulted, at least on elevator you should still be able to get back on ground OK, AS an idea dont choose best answer to soon, some will not bother answering if no chance of points for best answer
I also would like to know Pete, As good as HobbyKing is the information at times is sp****, some servos or goods give great info some are less than satisfactory
I have alot of these servos and have gone through a lot of arms for different reasons. Is there a servo arm accessory kit for this? I know I can buy the whole servo for a couple of bucks, but I have several servos now without arms...
can you use the extra servo arms it came with.example- i used the servo arm that had the the 4 arms on it because i needed a longer arm,just trimmed off 3 arms so it became 1.goodluck
Renaud, Yes they do, I have been using these servos for years. If you have any problems, shave off the little tab on the side, and If you need to rearange the wires for a different set up, just use and Xacto knife, lift the little tab, slide out the wire, and reposition. Red or brightest color is Black or darkest color is - Yellow or other color is s (signal) Just knowing this makes about any servo universal.
RGR what receiver won't they fit?? I've got a dozen planes and about the same number of cars and all the receivers have the same receptor, the cars are 27mhz and larger servo's but the same plugs.
Ral fRotten, it will not fit mini/micro receivers :)
Renaud: This will fit any standard sized receiver that accepts JR-style plugs, including the OrangeRX and Spektrum lines from the AR400 and up.
Hobby King Admin:
What ever happened to the carbon fiber control arms that came to me for several orders of this product???
Did you determine that there were problems with this gear/control arm combination? What was the issue?

Hi all, basic noob question but what sort is the connection, I think there is either a JR or Futaba??? And I assume its a male connector? Thanks in advance
JR Roders,same as these without hook. 45CM Servo Lead Extention (JR) with hook 26AWG (5pcs/bag).i brought these to extend wire length ,fit perfect.happy flying
no probs karl,were all here to help if we can. i dont have a watt meter but never had probs running those props with 3s.now dont reply because were hijacking handyjap's desscusion( he's receiving emails as will)lol.ill see you at the little red motor.happy flying everyone
Which skywalker? there's a few of em, the mini recommends less than 5g servo's, the others 9g. But you can modify the mini skywalker to accept these, there's not much room on the tail for these on the mini though, I put 9g on the ailerons, 5g on the elevator and made the rudder redundant.
One of the best and MOST HOT selling servos... These come into stock and within 3 days are again out of stock... HOT SELLING Item. The performance of this servo is extremly good and fast. Very accurate and there are no centering issues. The gears are resin/plastic and for the money totally worth it. I have been using these on my foamies for a long time now. A bit noisy but torque is good. Highly recommended. Buy them before they go OUT OF STOCK AGAIN.

129 thumbs up!
These gems are fast and strong, a bit noisy perhaps.
There is a downside of beeing strong and fast, they draw quite a bit of current. I measured about 550mA when exercising one HXT900 without load. This is an average, it seems to require more peak current. If used together with a linear BEC it will cause voltage drops.
I tried 2 HXT900 with a 1.5A BEC and a Spektrum AR6200 Rx. I could not exercise those two without loosing power to the Rx and cause it to a "BrownOut Reboot". With four servos connected, I could not even touch the control stick. The BEC circuit also got so hot it melted its plastic sleeve. Still works though, did not fail completely.
I tried with a larger ESC, having a 2A linear BEC, and it worked much better. But I could still force a "brownout reboot" by wildly excerise all four servos. I dare not fly my Pitts this way.
So, with four servos or more and an AR6200 Rx, I think you must use a larger switch mode BEC capable of 3A at least.
This is a combined problem of high current surge, poor power supply and voltage sensitive Rx. And maybe poor filtering of the powerline. Not really a problem with the servos as such. /A

Alot of flyers in the area are just loveing these. Similar, and in some aspects superior performance to the famous HS-81 at one quarter the price.
Here's some stats from the forums here at Hobby City:
Results in degrees/sec.:
@4.8V 450 @6.0V 560 Results in sec/60degrees.:
@4.8V 0.13
@6.0V 0.11
Torque Centering 1.3 .2

These HC babies kick Hitec HS-65HB's into the weeds starting with a massive 6:1 price ratio saving and ~identical physical size26.8hx23.2Lx12w mm at 9g. They use their own horn spine type however and good quality copper servo wire, and make a similar noise. My tests show very slightly higher power drain than a HiTec HS-65HB @4.8v smooth flying/hard reversals/stalls @/speed HXT900 160ma/290ma/690ma/0.14-60° (side-by-side with Hitec) HS-65HB 135ma/260ma/545ma/0.14-60° I have bought more than 30 of these and never did one give a problem with normal park flying/crashes and they work fine at 6v but be aware the current will rise to 190ma/370ma/690ma for your BEC. This servo allows you to own and operate 6 models where Hitec would limit you to one model. You decide. My recommendation is get more for less - they are basically the same spec. Sure we all have a few models that we like to run expensive servos on, but these HXT900 are the base to build a big pyramid on, and spend the money you save on buying more airplanes and helicopters. I don't consider them anything like a HS55 which = HXT500. 5 star performance for a 10 star price.
