TGY52 Overbore Gas engine

The TGY52 Overbore is the same weight as the 45cc, however it has a larger piston, liner and crank case giving it more capacity and thus More Power. As the saying goes.. There is no replacement for displacement!
All engines come pre-tested and tuned from the factory.

This is no weed-whacker or modified scooter motor, it was built from the ground up to be a competative large scale R/C gas plane engine, because of this it has an excellent power to weight ratio, giving it the ability to be used for large scale 3D flight.
Unique and quality features which make this an outstanding engine are;
Walbro (Japanese) carburettor. Easy to tune, instant throttle response.
CNC Milled crank-case. Precise, light weight yet strong.
CNC Lathed prop shaft. Light weight yet strong.
Twin reed valves. A must have for powerful 2-stroke gas engines.
CDI system. Electrinic Ignition makes starting a breeze!

The exciting thing about gas motors such as this one, is that they improve with age, giving increased power output. Treated well, these engines will last for many years.

Spec.
Displacement: 52cc
Weight: 1584g
Carburettor: (Japanese Walbro) Diaphragm & Butterfly valve.
Prop Speed: 1700 ~ 7800rpm
Max power: Over 3.2kw
Suggested prop: 20x8, 20x10, 22x8 or larger
Ignition: DC-CD (6v)
Mixture: 25:1 to 40:1
Bore/Stroke: Unknown x 31 mm
Size: 170mm long, 215mm wide, 215mm high (Including baffle)
Mount hole: 64mm x 64mm

This motor will suit most planes designed for a 30-50cc enigne. The motor is compact and light and will fit inside most cowls designed for these types of motors.

*Note.
All motors are tested, tuned and broken in for 7 minutes at the factory and will smell like gasoline when you receive it. This is normal.
We already stock a full range of parts for this engine! Search for FTL52 parts in our search box or visit the gas engine parts category.

The prop washer can be used as a drill template ??
   desautels (50%)
I use master airscrew propellers and didn`t drill anyhole in it cause the hub is small and i didn`t want to weak it and i didnot receive the propeller in the face. For what i red on different forums, you need those screws for 75cc and bigger, anyway if you want to drill them yes you can use the prop washer. Good luck, but you gonna love this engine

How is the recomend for breaking 1 Gallon Gas ??
   desautels (50%)
hello,i run the engine for 1 hr on the ground with a mixture of32/1 at 2500 rpm and some peak rpms, and then i followed rcaer website that says:GO FLIGH so it can have more cooling, that`s what i did,i don`t do maneuver,i just fligh and everything is ok,i still use 32/1 ratio, idon`t mind cleaning the a/c after a day of flight
   rcfune (25%)
And which propeller recomend for the breaking 22x8 ??
   desautels (50%)
i used 20x8 for initial break in and first flight, then i switched to 20x10

I have purchased one of these and I need to find an inverted Pitts style wrap around muffler for it. Does anyone know who makes these please, or does anyone know what other manufacturers have the same exhaust port dimensions? I am also trying to find a soft mounting system to use.

Ok..so I'm ready to buy one for my 25% Extra 300. Questions first.
1, Where can I get the drill pattern/location for fitting to firewall?
2, What battery should I buy for ignition?
3, What length standoff's do I need?
Any help with this would be greatly apreciated
   FRAMOSNT (82%)
Hi All,

I have one for 6 months.

1. You can put the engine at firewall and mark then.
2. I used rechargable batteries, but I had misfire, moved to UBEC (3A) with lipo battery (750Mha 2S), and now works for hours and have the same weight.
3. I didn't use HC standoff, I used extension of 5cm. But, need at least a 2 cm (0.78").

Hope I have helped

I just tried running the engine, and all i get is maybe 15-seconds running then it quits. I put choke on, flip untill it fires, turn choke off, then flip it some more. Does anyone know why it wants to quit and not run?
   Pilot Paul (50%)
Hello could be several things, the most obvious for me would be the fact that it starts with the choke which is a "rich mixture", I have the same engine and found that after about 30 minutes of running it leaned out on the low end, after richening up the mixture this problem went away and it runs like clock work. Also, you could check if the fuel runs back towards the tank after it has stopped as this indicates that the diaphram is not sealing, it could be perforated or as I found on another engine that the 4 screws securingthe diaphram were loose and once tightened and the carb is at positive prime the fuel does not run back and the problem was resolved Cheers Paul

Hi, I want to put this engine in a funtanaX 100, what do yo think about that?
   waineman (78%)
This is for a 15 pound aircraft, this engine is a bit much for that plane, you may want a 30cc motor at most for the funtana 100X, besides the fact that that engine would shake it to pieces...

hi all,has any one tried to put this in a sundowner 80"F1.could it handle a hi pitch prop if the diamiter was small?i know the frame can take a 35cc motor and if this is the same dimentions asthe45 it should fit.thanks in advance

rcmodelreviews. (90%)
I'm not a fan of piston-port side-draft engines for RC model use. It's often really hard to hide the carby inside a cowl and even when you do, the fact that air ends up blowing *across* the carb intake often means that it's difficult to get smooth, reliable operation at all throttle settings. The rear-intake reedvalve engines are (in my experience) much easier to set up and provide more power.

I've been thinking of building a 1/4 scale sprint car, the gas motors that are designed for these are very expensive compared to these. Has anyone used one of these motors an a land based vehicle? Is there a reason I haven't seen these at the track?

Does the igniton have one or two magnets on the axe. If it have two of them what is the angle between magnets (for the hall sensor for the input signal to CDI ignition) on the axe. Is it 180 degreas or 120 degreas. Did the motor when starting try to run back? Thank You in advance for answers.
   electrafly (83%)
Only One magnet.

Raymundo (86%)
It's my 2nd day on this site, & it appears as if, nobody gets their questions answered by anybody.?. Why is this? My first question I placed under a discussion, I got an e-mail notice that someone responded, & I checked, there was nothing there.

I am going to try this a second time. I have an 8lb. Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 biplane, & I would like to know if this particular engine, would be too much for it? I like what I've heard on these engines & I was first thinking of going with Fuji-Imvac but, it requires an expensive 2 cycle oil.
My biplane is supposed to be 8 lbs. without any equipment inside it yet.I am adding at least 2 lbs. to the weight rhetorically, approximating the assumed weight once everything is installed.
I want 3D aerobatic capability, of course, & I'll be adding a smoke system. Which should also add more weight. So, what would be a reasonable weight assumption, with a 2.4ghz Rx, 2 tanks of fuel(1 for gas*1 for smoke), & the added weight of the engine?
It is a scale size bipe. Please provide me with some input.Thank you.I just jumped into this RC hobby a couple of weeks ago.I am barely getting my first Tx next week.7ChFutaba
   c5flyguy (76%)
this engine is designed to fly a 15 pound airplane 3D. 10 pounds is a bit small for this engine. This engine takes the same fuel oil pre mix as zenoa. In order to tell you this is the correct engine we would need a wing span and or wing loading. 27% scale 3D is a typical 50cc airplane like a cap 232 with an 80 inch wing span at 14 pounds.

"Thank you.I just jumped into this RC hobby a couple of weeks ago.I am barely getting my first Tx next week.7ChFutaba"

You seem to have very little experience and knowledge of this hobby.
First of all your Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 is NOT a beginners aircraft, more like a 4th or 5th. I suggest you start with a trainer type or a cheap electric EPP plane. If you will fly the Ultimate without any further experience you will take off only once and take it home in a plastic bag.
You are asking your RC-basic questions on a site that sells stuff, better to ask your questions on a RC-forum, more people there and more answers. Once you get the better hang of it it will be easier to shop around.

The 50cc engine is way to big for your airplane.
It will fly (heavy)(but not in your hands right now)with 20cc 2stroke petrol, but you better look in to a methanol .60-90 2c or a .91-1.20 4c.
   Joel (20%)
I have the Goldberg Ultimate ARF with a SV 26 and a 16x8 prop. Perfect power, and I like things over powered. Hovers at half throttle. Ailerons don't have alot of authority for stopping a torque roll. They really need to be enlarged.
   Son of Paleface (94%)
If you are HOVERING there is NO airflow over the ailerons , unless they are in the prop wash
Elevons (elevator and aileron mix)is one way , but difficult to set up :-)
   FRAMOSNT (82%)
hi Ray,

Buy this engine if you have CB 300-10 of 54". This is hardly model and when you put smoke+tank, bat, etc... More hard. My friend have exactly this plane with Saito 180 !!! This engine is very lite, you will be happy to 3D flights * )

I have yak54 88" and my other friend cap232 69" with engine ! I know ! Will be great !

crash (81%)
How are you suppose to hook up the throttle linkage? A straight pull is not possible. You almost have to pull at a 90 degree angle
   electrafly (83%)
You have not had a good look. Remove the screw that holds the external throttle arm on, remove the throttle arm and turn it over. The choke is a different matter as is riveted on.
   electrafly (83%)
This is an update. I now have carefully filed the riveted part that sticks through the choke external arm, turned it over reriveted it on and soldered it back on. Check the photos to see the set up.(11/03/2009)
