Zlin Z-50L 1612mm 0.70 class (Glow/EP) Sport Scale (ARF) (UK Warehouse)
The Zlin-Z50 is a top quality and highly capable aerobatic model that is exceptionally scale, designed to accept either glow or electric power, the Zlin is the perfect club size model, easy to transport and field assemble, yet large enough to have real presense in the air and on the ground.
The first thing that strikes you on inspection is the superb build quality, the Zlin has been exceptionally well designed & built, it offers a very low flying weight with no compromise given to durability, for instance, the vertical stabilizer has been made from glassfiber to withstand the strain imposed by the sizable elevators, even when pushed through the most punishing aerobatic maneuvers. The other thing that stands out is the scale look of the Zlin, models of this class are often slab sided with little attention to detail, but not the Zlin. The covering is superb as is the paint finish on the cowl, the 1 pc wing is bolt on for easy transport and the supplied hardware 1st class. Other indications of the sheer quality of this kit are the proper canopy hatch, the supplied instrument panel and the scale struts for the horizontal stabilizer.
Through a combination of light weight, generous control surfaces, exceptional build quality and great design, the Zlin performs every inch as good as it looks. A highly scale aerobatic model of this quality and class is a rare thing and all of the combined features of this great looking Zlin at this price are unheard of ........until now!

Looks a very nice model. What do you guys think about putting a 90 4 stroke up front? Too big? I have one looking for a home but I'm a bit concerned about the fretted out airframe combined with a "large" engine.....might it vibrate everything to destruction?
In answer to my own question I have just realised that there are a bunch of parts missing from mine. Namely the engine mount, fuel tank, pushrod for the throttle, and the 5 fibre glass horn mountings :(
My Zlin was best model in ARF's at this weeks club night. Much surprise was expressed when I said it was a Hobbyking Model. Just shows how much people pre-judge things.
I'm not clear on what power is needed for this. From the weight I would guess anything over 1000W would be ample but it is a big plane, is that enough?
Could those that are actually flying it on EP comment on what you setup is taking?
I am using a Turnigy SK 4260-500kv 1425 watts with Turnigy Plush 80 amp esc. 14x7 3 blade prop. Running on Turnigy 5000mah 6s Lipo. This gives about 1400 watts.
Ordered this morning * 0915 local time for 24 hour delivery. Still in print queue at 1735. Maybe 24 hour is from when they get around to it. So probably not 'next day' delivery Just thought I'd test the system
Says 'loaded onto a van' at Cambridge Depot on Saturday 6am. Presumably it sat in the van all weekend. The website tracking is still showing the same at 1345 today 16/07/12. I'll let you know if it turns up today
Many decent 'planes still out of stock at Ipswich. I suppose new stock will have to get to the UK via sea transport i.e containerised! This is going to take weeks, as HK is not going to send a few restocks until they get a full container.......could be the weak link in HK's master plan for the UK?
The general dimensions and scale for this model are similar to the Chris Foss Acrowot which is a semi scale version of the Zlin. I currently have one flying on an 1100 watt Turnigy motor on 5s. I also have one on an Irvine 53 glow both have more than enough power even though they weigh more than this model. A 61 2 stroke will fly this no problem. Of course petrol engines produce less power than glow.

Just got mine. I have had quick look to check the kit. It looks very good quality. I can't find any covering flaws. I am going to run this on a Turnigy 4260-500 1425 watt motor, Plush 80amp esc, Turnigy 6s 20C lipos. So far so good. I wll keep you posted.

Just about finished my build, generally very pleased with the result. I have decided to fit a 5000mah 6s lipo to add a little extra weight to the nose. With smaller batteries I would have had to add too much lead. It is difficult to add much extra cockpit detail but I am fitting a pilot in the cockpit. My only criticism is of the tailwheel assembly, in itself it works fine but the plane that this on is modelled on has a different arrangment which would look better. I am thinking about how to acheive this.

I have now finished the Zlin even the 3 blade prop and spinner. I have fitted a Turnigy SK3 5055-380, 1750 watt motor and am using Turnigy 3000 mah 6s lipo 20C. The power to the motor is split from the Rx and I am not using the BEC. Rx and Servo power come from a 6volt 5cell Nimh pack for lack of current limitations and the ability to charge in place. This removes the need for another lipo and UBEC, I think it is a simple solution and todays long storage life Nimh remove the worries. This set up balances just on the 120mm mark so this should be fine.
