Wing Wing Z-84 EPO 845mm (PNF)

Wing Wing Z-84 EPO 845mm (PNF)
Wing Wing Z-84 EPO 845mm (PNF)

The Wing Wing Z-84 is big fun in a small package! With its low price, ultra-tough EPO foam construction and being Plug and Fly, the Wing Wing offers excellent value and fun at a price you can't beat!

Simplicity and practicality were kept in mind when designing this airframe. It offers an easily removable magnetic battery hatch, plug-in wing and tail design, carbon fiber wing spar and molded cooling holes for the battery compartment.

Most importantly, the Wing Wing flies as good as it looks. This model features a very wide flight envelope - it's equally happy zipping along at full throttle as it is gliding with the power off. It's also very aerobatic allowing for tight loops, fast rolls and just about any other wing aerobatics you choose to throw at it.

Thanks to its pre-installed brushless power system and servos, you can be flying your Wing Wing in no time! Simply glue on the wings & vertical stabs, install the servo control rods, add your own receiver & battery and your ready to fly!

I did a review of the plane which can be seen here. I hope this will help choosing or not choosing this plane over others :-) And the maiden flight of this PNF version is available on my youtube channel.

Does Hobbyking sell the above adapter, if not where can I purchase said item. I am based in Scotland UK if that is any help. This would be my first Electric model hence the novice questions before I purchase the WingWing
Thanks for your help Vic

Hi Vic. I re-solder my battery connections so that all of my planes and batteries have the same type of connectors. Buy a bag of XT 60 connectors, PRODUCT ID: XT60

This is a short flight of my Z-84 Wing Wing. I bought the kit version here on Hobbyking! Here is a list of what i used- Wing Wing Z-84 EPO 845mm (KIT), TURNIGY TRUST 55A SBEC Brushless Speed Controller, D2826-6 2200kv Outrunner Motor, HXT900 9g / 1.6kg / .12sec Micro Servo, Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo Pack, APC 6x5 Prop

I'm trying to find a quieter prop for the Z-84. I have the motor from the PNF kit. Can anyone tell me a specific 6x4 pusher prop for that motor? I have ordered a couple and they do not fit. The adapter is 0.215" and 0.150". thanks

Can i cut the ESC JST connector and just solder a HXT or XT60 male plug?
 Robachan 1087 points
Of course. Perfect solution, especially since they don't sell the adapter that they say it requires, "XT-60 male to JST male adapter". They have just about every other adapter for XT-60 except the one needed here. Ridiculous. (And no, the "XT60 - JST Male In-line Power Adapter" will not work since the wires are too thin.)
a_henrique  5 points - 2/15/2013

I saw people saying that they had to add weight to balance the CG of the wing because the listed batterries are not heavy enough. I was wondering if a 2200mah 2s battery would balance it`s CG. Can someone tell me which of these can make the best CG balance?? ZIPPY Compact 2200mah 2S 20C (113g 104x35x14mm) or ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mah 2S1P 40C (143g 105x35x18mm)

I had a 1800 2S in mine when I first bought this plane. From memory I removed the weight that was in the nose and placed the battery as far forward as possible. I also ran the stock motor on a 3S, not recomended almost burnt it out.
IKE-SI  2 points - 2/12/2013

I ordered by mistake only wing and now I want to buy the 2900kv Brushless Outrunner. What is the original size of the prop ? It is possible to run this motor with 3S ?
 Aussie_mailman 62 points
Use the motor from the AXN floater. The setup out of the AXN makes this little puppy a bullet, 3S 2200 placed as far back as possible.

Thanks Aussie. I already buy and instal original 2900 Bruushless with 2S 1800 Nano. The COG is like it must be based on instruction, but the wing is not possible to fly. It goes only up or down and I don't know where is the problem. My longest fly was about 50 m. I will definitely buy another faster motor and like I see proposed AXN-2208-2150 is on stock in NL. Do you fly with this configuration. With 3S 2200 placed far back (to the carbon stick) the COG will not be on the right place. Where do you hawe your COG.

This might help people decide on this plane. also shows a 4s setup.

4S is THE way to go with this little WingWing. Turns it from a butterfly into a fire breathing Dragon! Absolutely awesome!

Can someone tell me what size shaft is on this motor? as i need some prop saver bands and a air screw? thanks
 Aussie_mailman 62 points
Use the neck off a baloon, much better than the O ring. The diameter of the bit that the prop fits on is 3.83mm, 0.151 inch, the prop is 5 inch.

I just build my Wing Wing PNF. I have only plugged in the ESC to the RX (OrangeRX R610) and bound it to the TX ($pektrum 7s). The ESC keeps beeping. The Elevons work fine but the motor does not fire up. Any ideas?
 Aussie_mailman 62 points
Try setting the throttle responce. Turn on transmitter put throttle to max, plug battery in, after first set of beeping move throttle to minimum. Also mke sure trim is central.
 FlyAZero 7 points
Thanks for that. Unfortunately it appears the ESC is faulty.
 aaronjw00 9 points
I've found that some ESC's need the throttle trim set all the way down to arm. Try lowering the throttle trim to see if it will arm.
 FlyAZero 7 points
True. Tried that and in this case though, had no luck unfortunately.

top Model. easty to flight also by strong wind. GPS Logger said 60 KM/H maximum flight Speed. Next Week i test a 6030 Propeller

can i use a 3s battery on this stock motor
 Aussie_mailman 62 points
Not for long. I used a 3S and a larger speedy, when I removed the motor to upgrade I noticed that the windings were very dark. I ended up useing the motor from the AXN Floater. 6x4 prop, 25amp speedy, 3S 2200 mah battery.

I've just built and fitted out my new wing wing Z84 (kit) but yet to maiden so just wanting some predictions on performance and est flight times so i can have an idea what to expect when the weather improves. Current setup on the wing wing is: Turning D2826-6 2200kv Outrunner Motor with 5x5 apc prop. 30A esc. 3S 1750mah 45c lipo. Hxt900 servos. Flying weight 420g. Thanks for any advise.
 KermyNZ 7 points
I've just bought the PNF Wing Wing, flown it a few times. On the standard setuop, it has nice power, and has nice stable flight. The only comment with my setup is to give it full power when launching, both myself and my brother on our first launches only gave about 1/2 throttle, being tentative, which wasn't enought to get it airborne, but once it's aloft, it flies round on half throttle, it just needs to get it's airspeed up. It has a nice roll rate, but I'm planning on adjusting the throws to make it a little more aerobatic.

can eany one give me the part no for the motter to put in it so i can order one
 Aussie_mailman 62 points
Hi woody, I used the motor from the AXN Floater, 25amp speedy, 1800 - 2200 3S, 6x4 prop. You will not be dissapointed.

what prop size are suitable for the recommended spec?
 Gary 2962 points
Not a 100% certain which prop it comes with but think it is something like the GWS 5x3 Microspeed prop, the model does come with one and a spare.

hello guys , anyone test with 4S lipo ? maybe powerfull ! or upgrade bl motor/prop ? regards from france
 Aussie_mailman 62 points
Hi Julien, I have upgraded the motor to the one from an AXN floater and can only get a 2200 mah 3s battery as close to the spar without interfering with the latch. Better with a 1800 mah 3s, more nimble.

Hi all, I can use this battery without overheating Turnigy nano-tech 3S 1300mAh

Yes they draw in theory 58.5A constant. I don't think your esc is a 60A. Hope, I help you Lionel Chavaz

Luv mine - Quick put together, run 2s 1700 on xt60 removed nose weight lipo all the way forward. Might change out motor/esc for 24g 3000KV on 3s. Wonderful this little powered stealth Alula, huge flight envelope.

Nice little wing. Took about three hours to assemble, everything was in the box. Love the glue. Changed the speedy plug to match all my other stuff. Running a 1800mah 2 cell pushed all the way forward with the weight removed. Also have a larger speedy from another plane to run a 3 cell 1600mah. Took it out today for a maiden. Flies real nice on the two cell, 25 - 30 mins, just kept going. On the 3 cell went quite a bit faster. Either setup flies nice and slow. Standard speedy not even warm, battery cool as well. Great buy. Thank you HK. Oh yeah. Handles a bit of banging into the ground with no ill affects.

Great model; goes together real quick; flies superbly on a 2S 1300mAh LiPo but needed extra nose weight as well to balance at recommended CofG, so probably could use a higher capacity battery. It flies forever on a Zippy 2S 1300mAh though. The only minor negative was that the motor 'fell off' in the first five minutes flying; fortunately it is a pusher prop and no damage was done and the motor stayed on the model. After removing the motor mount it was obvious that the two grub screws that hold the motor to the mount were loose. Nipped them back up with a bit of Loctite and it all seems to be good again.
