Anyone try the 2205c 1400kv motors on this quad? It's pretty light so I was thinking of trying it as I already have the motors and HK blue series 12 amp esc. Thanks for any comments :)

Don't get this frame. If you're new to multirotors, this thing will be destroyed in a matter of minutes. The landing gear is fragile. I could go on and on. If you're in the usa, I would look at value hobby . c o m and get a frame from them. To answer your initial question, You need 4 escs as well. the 12 Amp controllers will work with those motors, but as far as i know, you will need more power. I used motors rated for 30 amp ESC's and those worked much better. I think i got Turnigy 28 something motors, and 4 turnigy plush 30A esc's Worked like a charm. The motors you have might work, as the guy below me said, but mine is plenty fast and nimble, yet stable. my main advice is to not use this frame! haha! Good luck!

Motor/ESC/Prop suggestions??

This is what I'm running on mine: hexTronik 24gram 1300kv Outrunners 12a Turnigy Plush ESC 9x4.7 SF Props LiPo/Flight times: Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 25C (Mount on top using velcro) - 12min (no payload) - 8min (w/Gimbal GoPro) Turnigy nano-tech 1600mah 3S 25~50C (Fits nicely inside the frame in-between the 2 plates.) - 9min (no payload) - 6min (w/Gimbal GoPro) For fun flying with no camera or payload, I'd recommend the 1600mAh LiPo. It's lesser weight makes for a quicker, more responsive Quad. If you're wanting longer flight times or plan to carry a decent load, go with the larger 2200mAh LiPo. Hope this helps :D

Landing gear is very weak.
 IBeHoey 389 points
I wouldn't say the landing gear is "very" weak. Mine has taken it's fair share of spills and nether leg has broke yet.

I would have to second the opinion about the weak landing gear. Two hard landings and mine were done. The frame seems rather ridged but will not stand much punishment if you come down on an arm hard and may break. The idea of using ca to glue the frame is great but it does not lead it's self for easy repairs. I would not suggest it for someone just learning to fly for that reason.

I bought this frame to replace the, broken in several places, half made of epoxy frame the came with the HK Quad kit. It weighs nearly 40 grams more than the stock old frame, however after all the fixes made to the old frame, they weight just about the same now. Quality is excellent! The ply frame is much sturdier than the old one, and putting it together was a breeze. If you need help assembling this frame, just search google for "HobbyKing Quadcopter Frame V1". You'll come across several blogs detailing the build. If there is anything to complain about, it would have to be that the frame comes pre-painted. Some sand paper and paint fixed this though. This frame also requires no modification to fly in a or X config. It's also nice that the kit also includes all the hardware needed for assembly. I did find that some of the nylon bolts included had to be cut down some in order to fit properly, once again, not a big problem. I would also go as far as saying that glue is actually optional in this build. Aside from the landing gear and the support arms of the dome, the frame can be assembled entirely with just the included hardware, and when assembled, it is very strong. I should also note, in order to make use of the included camera mount, you are going to need a servo as there is no way to attach the side of the mount without a servo. I'm waiting on a separate HK order to arri

Nothing like good old wood. Easy build with glue instead of plastic screws. Will buy another frame as back up. Wood absorbs vibrations well for cameras. Easy to modify.
