Has anyone got some data on this motor running 6S - specifically with a 20 inch prop. I expect to run Probably a 20x8 on 6s, but it hasn't arrived and I'd rather not buy a bunch of props to test it, if someone has this stuff handy already and could try it out for me, thanks.

Hello! You was right! A magnet got loose. Should I put some drops of CA/Expozy or should I request a new motor from HK ?
 Tuomas 81 points
I used produt HK-201 epoxy and after 5 flights everything still good. If you warranty change the motor, your posting costs could be more than new motor price. Also with the new motor you could face the same problem.
alexlanni  6 points - 4/14/2013

Hello, Today I had the maiden flight. All okay, but the motor stops to turn after the flight. I hear a strange noise on a certain angle. Maybe it would be the bearing broked. Anyone can help me on how to repair or ask HK to change my motor ? My setup was 6s 16x10 100A Esc Thanks!
 Tuomas 81 points
Maybe some magnets got loose, as mine had. I took the central out and glued two magnets back using epox. Click contact -> Customer Support Center -> Submit request and select faulty product. Good luck for that. Usually post cost is more that the product price.

Can someone help with a prop for this motor going to use 6s 4500/5000 batt 100 amp esc on a 9lb extra for good sport flying
 Jacob 5 points
I would say a 17x10 will work for you. Should produce about 2124W with that setup.
sito3  1 points - 2/19/2013

Would this motor push a skateboard with a 130 lbs person on it. If the battery pushing it was lets say around 36v with 10 AH
Mark  8 points - 1/23/2013

This would work fine, but an 8s lipo would be better. I would try 120a esc.

I have a yak 54, approx 3.8 to 4.5 kg, 17x8 wood prop, battery 4.500mhA, 6S 25 ~ 50C. This engine is enough to fly in 3D? What is the ideal ESC?
 Lee062988 151 points
I would run a 100amp esc
 Tuomas 81 points
I have this motor in my 3.8kg turboraven with 17x8 prop and 6s setup. Taking about 70-80a with full throttle. I have 120a esc, but 100a would be enough. 7 flights behind and waiting summer :)

to see the results of a amp test go to you tube and search "Hobbyking's 50-60 propdrive 380 KV motor review and amp test."

HI NTM 5060 2665WATT OUTPUT I HAVE READ ON THIS FORUM THE MAGNETS TEND TO PART COMPANY FROM MOTOR ALTHOUGH THIS MUST BE A MINORITY OF CASES OR THIS MOTOR WON'T BE FIT FOR INTENDED USE, I ONLY INTEND TO DRAW 2000 WATT WITH 6S LIPO, WOULD THIS BE SAFE OR DO I SHY AWAY MANY THANKS GARY UK
GP-EPFUNSTER  13 points - 12/28/2012

DMAAN, You are correct. After less than 5 min of amp testing to be sure that the 17x10 was the correct prop, the motor seized. The magnets pulled right out and even cut the motor lead wires coming out of the windings. Pretty bad build quality. I ordered a Great Planes Rimfire from Tower Hobbies. Never had a problem with those motors. I guess you do get what you pay for.
 Trond 1 points
3 min runtime, loose magnets. The magnets then cut the el. wires. What remains is s****!

Whats the internal resistance and no-load current? Why the Hobby King dont put all data in the specs for help buyer choose the right motor????

awesome motor See is work Just go to you tube and search "Hobby king nemesis over 100 mph radar gun "

Hi, any one who owns one of these, can you look into the can from the wiring side and see if you can see the magnet ends? Is there a ring holding the magnets or are they making a 2600 watt motor that only has glue holing the magnets in place? Thanks,
 GP-EPFUNSTER 13 points
You are correct. I didn't even get my model off the ground before the motor seized. The magnets pulled right out. Terrible quality. I'd pay another $5 just to see a solid ring in there and maybe it would be a decent motor for a while. I had the recommended ESC (100A) and prop (17x10) with a 5800mAh 6S Zippy attached. PURE ****!

Hobby King are you listening? You can't build a 3 HP motor with just glue, especially cheap glue no matter what the glue manufacturer says their specs are. Use better glue AND a retainer ring at the open end of the can to hold the magnets in place and I will buy 5. Great Specs, bad quality! Tell us when made properly and will buy.

Hello! This engine will be good for the YAK-55 GB 1.8 m, the power 6S 5000 mAh 30C and 20x8 prop? ready to fly weight about 4300g, typical 3D flying.
 Dangaras 583 points
what do you plan to do with the model? The type of flying will dictate how many watts/lb you need. I think this is a 2500W motor on 7 or 8 cells so 6 cells will give you less max power. The 20 * 8 prop might be right at the upper limit. You should use e-calc to get the analytical results.
HonzaH83  13 points - 11/27/2012

It will also work on 4-5S for my cessna 182, 1600 mm? Or just from 6S?
Basilv  2 points - 11/25/2012

Bought the motor but then found out it only has 3 bolts for the prop adapter so it won't take the adapter I had. I need a much bigger prop adapter than the stock adapter provided. Any ideas other than a collett type? Thanks
 adam 1 points
you will have to order the accessory pack from the states - 10 day delivery. i couldnt find any in the uk, and hk dont stock it in euro warehouse either..****e on HK, charge a bit extra and include it, it would still be great value!

Hello all, I want to use it with a lipo 6s 5000ma, and with a three blade prop in 17x8. What Could I expect ? (Thrust, Power, etc...) Project is a Seaplane: wheight 9kg, spann 2m50 Thanks for answer...
 MeroTech 17 points
17x8 3 blade prop will need about 2700 Watt to run at 8360 RPM ( 380kv x 22 volt ). This will exceed max motor power ( will give you about 10 kg thrust ) Better to go for tinny smaller prop may be 16x8 3 blade, which will give you more than 8 kg thrust which is very good for your plane.

Hi Moreno, which prop are you using on 6 or 8s? Herbert
TooSlow2Care  26 points - 8/23/2012

someone who owns this motor, can you test and report if it will handle 6S power? this motor should handle 6S, but why is it only rated to 8S? cheers,
 Moreno 14 points
Hi! I own this motor and I have to say it is very strong and superb quality.
You get the maximum power at 8S, but it will generate approx. 75/80pcnt of the maximum stated power if you use a 6S configuration.
Then, it depends on the model you want to fly with it: if 80pcnt of the stated power is enough, you can go for it.
Pay attention then at the propeller selection:
- 8S means approx 32V, which means a theoretic MAX RPM equal to 12.160 RPM
- 6S means approx 24V, which means a theoretic MAX RPM e

oops, i meant to ask about twin 6S packs in series = 12S with the 380kv rating and 50mm can, it should take it... but I don't know. thank you

After two flights I can say that the motor seems to be normal and good Turnigy quality at the price. I can get 1480w (61amps) with 17x8 or 16x10 propeller when using birdie 110amp esc and 5000mah 6s battery. New esc and propeller are on the way and hopefully I can get near 2000w or more. You can see this moror in my Turbo Raven plane using youtube and finding my stupeduu nick.

NTM 5060 380KV, 17x8 apc style, 5000mah 6s, HK 120A ESC, 60A 1300W.Well below max specs, magnets loose, cut wires.
Maybe it is a very powerful motor, but I have not a chance to see that.
