Hobbyking Yak 55 3D 1096mm EPP (ARF) (AUS Warehouse)
This great size Hobbyking Yak 55 has been designed with 3D flying very much in mind, made from virtually unbreakable EPP Foam, it is ideal for practicing 3D maneouvers over and over, get it wrong? No problem, the Yak 55 will just bounce and even if you do get it horribly wrong, 5 minutes and a bottle of Cyano & Kicker is all it takes to restore your pride and your Yak.
This is a superbly designed, top quality Almost Ready To Fly model that features a proper profile wing and extensive use of carbon fibre rod & CF square tubing for extra stiffness. The control surfaces are large enough for any Hard-core 3D pilot, but just to make double sure you are happy, the model comes with servo horn extensions for maximum throws. Big wheels that can handle almost any flying field & plug in wings secured with rubber bands for easy strip down and transportation add to the list of practical features.
The motor mount is pre-installed and will accept up to a 35mm brushlessoutrunner, the lipoly mount with pre-installed velcro strap is a perfect size slot for a Turnigy 1800mAh 3s and to do this brilliant model justice, we reccomend digital micro servos all round. The Hobbyking Yak 55 flys really well, so well that even if you are not interested in 3D flying, set it up on low rates and it makes a brilliant parkflyer. However you choose to abuse....sorry.....use your Yak, its a huge amount of fun and at this price .........can you afford NOT to have one!?

HK, It's just plain short sightedness that the recommended equipment (related items) are in a different store - you can't add them to the same order so it becomes pointless having the link. Please please fix this as the "Combine and save" feature is out the window. PS: this feature isn't only stuffed on this product.
Hi James, The battery slot measures 92mmL x 28mmH, but you can cut away a bit of foam if you plan to use longer packs. I use both 1800mah/3S and 2200mah/3S packs on mine, so I had to lengthen the slot to 100mm. No problems. Cheers, EA!
Hey Electric Aussie, well I finally got my Yak55 and it's one awesome plane! But I do have one quick question for you mate. On your Yak55 do the elevator control horns get glued on top? The plans are saying on the bottom, but the servo cut outs on mine are in a different position from the plans. There as per the pic on this page. I'm assuming they do as there's no other way to do it, but I just wanted to double check before I start cutting and glueing. Thanks Hobby King for a quick delivery...very happy.
Hi Kaiser76, The tail servos go on as follows: Rudder on right with control arm pointing down, Elevator on left with control arm pointed down. The elevator horn goes on the underside and when you add the servo control arm extensions that come with the kit, the control rod will lay parallel to the underside of the elevator. If you go to the Reviews tab above and read my 2 reviews you'll see my building tips, especially regarding how to reinforce the main wing. Cheers, EA!
Thank you very much Electric Aussie!! Much appreciated mate....I got a little confused looking at the postage table, I think that I may have been looking at the international postage table. Have a great day my mate.

G'day Guys have one very quick question re this plane and postage costs. This will be the first purchase for me on Hobby King, and I was wondering what's the most used method of shipping and cost effective as the prices seem a bit steep on the postage table. I will only be having the plane shipped to South East Queensland and nothing else. Thanks for your time guys.
Hi Kaiser76, This one is a no-brainer! This plane is available (and in stock, 4 left) from the Australia warehouse. You'll be using the AusPost eParcel Basic 2kg (NSW Warehouse) option ($8.99). It will arrive within 1 week from the time you place your order. If you add other items (motor, ESC, LiPos, etc.) you will probably go over the 2kg limit for the $8.99 rate, the next level being the 7kg/$13.99 rate. If you need the other stuff, this is the time to load up, as you have over 5kg to play with at the $13.99 postage charge. Cheers, EA!
Hey Professor, If you're referring to the L3010-1300kV motor, it will be more than enough power for this plane. I own an L3010, but opted to use a Park480/1320kV (now available from AU warehouse) because it's lighter and only needs a 30A ESC (lighter still) and 11x3.8 prop. It has more than enough power for 3D with the Yak55. Hovers at 1/2 throttle. The L3010 would be a monster power plant on this plane. Cheers!
Drew73 well this is a good one to start on. It is very forgiving being EPP foam. At least this is not marked unbreakable. HA HA I can break any thing. Good luck!!
unleaded if I could I would buy it for you. Keep up the good work. Wheel up.

What a great 3D practice model! I am using SK 3530 1100 ,TGY 9025MG servos, 40 amp plush esc and orange 6ch rx with sat and 1700 Rhino 3s with 11x3.8 slow fly APC COG with this setup is spot on plenty of power. I did not make wings removable just glued in place, supplied oversize servo arms are a nice touch and work well. Model is quite stiff for a foamy and flies very well. Great for a anywhere 3D fix and keeping those thumbs sharp

I've had this plane for a few months, but hadn't written a review yet... so here goes. Flies straight and true with plenty of control surface for 3D. Large wing area gives nice slow flight with no high or low speed tip stall. General quality is excellent, but the 6mm x 10cm CF joiner rod that the removable wings mount onto is an invitation for disaster. Too much stress on too small an area (<4cm of rod into each wing half) would surely cause a hi-G wing failure. I epoxied the wing halves into fuse and added 2 CF strips (1mm x 6mm x 200mm) to the mid-wing, 1 on each side of the square spar tube. Much stiffer wing with even flex over the whole length vs. only at the joiner rod. Park480 motor w/1800mah 3S gives plenty of power for 3D. Would definitely recommend this one for any experienced pilot. Cheers!

One quick addition to my previous review. The elevator design uses separate halves joined by a very weak 3mm x 10mm strip of ply. During hi-G moves, the servo side of the elevator has full movement but the other side moves much less because of torsional twist in the ply strip, causing a slight roll tendency on hard elevator moves. I corrected this problem by adding 2 CF strips (1mm x 6mm x 70mm) to the top/bottom of the ply strip forming an I-beam. Much stronger and zero twist. Cheers!
Surprisingly good build quality makes for a light weight and stiff frame with all the carbon fibre rods. Screw mounts for all the servo’s are a bit flimsily so had to made new ones, found the carbon fibre rod between the two wings a little too short and replaced with longer unit. All in all found this kit to be of excellent quality for the price, running a Turnigy Trust 55A SBEC Brushless Speed Controller with a Turnigy L3010B-1300 Brushless Motor (420w) spinning a APC style propeller @ 11x5.5 and a Turnigy nano-tech 1300mAh 3S 45~90C Lipo Pack. This is a great flying plane ... slow floaty landings all the way thru to neck-snapping aerobatics, job well done HK….
