HobbyKing please review your stock replenishment strategy. You have a lot of good products, competitive pricing. Yet, there seems to be a lot of them always run out of stock. It is causing frustration to your loyal customers, I am one of them.

   MtnBikeGeek (60%)
This ESC comes without plugs except for the receiver plug which is JR style. You must match the plugs on the battery (if there are any) and the motor (again, if there are any). Many use the XT 60 for battery and 3.5mm bullet for motor.
   Michael (79%)
It uses a 3-pin Futaba plug.

I friends:
Does anybody know what about to use a FUSE for ESC(TURNIGY Plush 40amp) and MOTOR(Turnigy Typhoon 450H Heli Motor 3450kv and 3550kv)in a HK450GT Helicopter. If yes, how can I connect them in 3 wires(red, black and blue)
Thank you very much

calee (13%)
Hi friends:
Anybody knows what is the right connection between A/B/C red wires in ESC and blue/red/black wires in motor?
Please, HELP
   fatman (83%)
Connect any ESC wire to any motor wire. It does not matter which colour goes to A/B/C. If the motor spins in reverse, change over any two wires and it will spin in the opposite direction.
   astartica (29%)
Never mind. test as far as the motor turns. if the motor has fals rotational direction switch tow wires
   AndreasL (75%)
It doesn't matter which wires are connected together. If the motor spins in the wrong direction, simply swap two of the three wires.
   Roy N (72%)
Connect as you like, if motor turns in opposite way for your need, switch any 2 wires.
   nrg2go (17%)
It doesn't matter calee. Just connect them up and test motor, if it turns the wrong way pick two wires (any) and swap them. It does not matter what ESC wire is connected to what motor wire, as long as it turns the way you want it too. Hope that helps :)
This customer was awarded a credit for their answer.
   Tomer (50%)
It doesn't matter! You can switch between any two wires to reverse the spin direction. (The 3 wires are 3 phases, there is no /-/signal here.)
   thos2010 (15%)
Just plug them in and try, If direction of motor is wrong swap two of the connections over.
   Goose (77%)
I am using my motor as a pusher, I just put a normal prop on and changed the wires
   way2gojeef (50%)
plug them in and check prop, fan, or rotor rotation direction*if backwards switch any 2 wires.continue switching until proper rotation direction reached
   Michael (79%)
As far as I know it doesn't matter for brushless motors in which oder you connect the wires.

Hi, is it possible to "switch off" BEC on this ESC and use it as Opto with separate Battery for Rx?
   JOSE ANTONIO (50%)
lo estoy usando en aviones y helicopteros con buenos resultados, lo aconsejo por calidad-precio
   Waco (78%)
Already I know, how do it. It is necessary to disconnect the red wire from lead to Rx connector and it is!
   uppestar (0%)
Hello,
I think it just disconnect the positive vire on the plug of the ESC
   Sebastien (40%)
Hi, yes of course. You can do it with any ESC, just cut off the red wire which comes to the receiver. That way the receiver isn't feeded anymore by the ESC. Regards from Switzerland.
   Pygar (16%)
Yes, all you have to do is to pull out the red (center) wire from the ESC receiver plug, and than connect your external power to the receiver. This works for all speed controllers.
   redscho (34%)
Yes, just disconnect the white lead from the connector that goes into the receiver.
   JOTAELE (29%)
Deconecta el Positivo (cable rojo) del conector del CES que va al receptor.
   NumnutChriS (36%)
You can use a separate batt for Rx. Just pull out the red wire (middle) from the ESCs servo plug. You still need the white (signal) and black (gnd) to control the ESC.
   Andrew (50%)
You can remove the Red wire from the ESC RX plug. This will eliminate the ESC from powering the RX.Be sure to shrink wrap it as this wire will have voltage on it still
   flying on (55%)
Just remove the red wire from the servo plug side and insulate it with some tape or heat shrink. problem solved! program doesn't have a off setting for the BEC side.
   domdom (49%)
you can cut the red wire of the reciever-plug. i did that, its working
   Mr Ed (19%)
I use a very short servo extension on mine and take the red wire out. That kills the ESC portion but the ESC will still run the motor. Then you can use what ever you want for power on the receiver.
   Patrik (20%)
That is impossible
   Brandon (34%)
Yes, just cut or removed the red wire from the connector that plugs into the reciever.
   xhenrique (50%)
Yes, no problem! Just take off the red wire from the 3-wire conector that outs from esc and isolate it. Then you can use a separate battery for the receiver.
   DukeZillo (64%)
you need to remove the red wire from the black futaba connector.
   nrg2go (17%)
Hi Waco, Yes, just get yourself a short servo extension lead and cut the RED wire. Use this to connect your ESC to your Rx. The reason is so you don't cut the RED wire of your ESC in case you want to use it in something else in the future. With the RED wire cut you can now connect up your own power source to the BATT connector of the Rx. Hope this helps.
   ssmyth (0%)
yes just remove the red plug in the reciever connecter and tape it so it does not short out
   Tomer (50%)
You can do that with any ESC. Just remove the red wire from the connector, and the Rx will not get its power from the ESC. Now you can connect a separate battery to the Rx. The motor will get its power from the ESC, and the speed will still be controlled by the Rx.

Does anyone know if this will be a good combo with the 35-42D Turnigy motor in the parkzone Corsair with a 4400 Mah 15c 3s Lipo? I'd like it to be overpowered if possible with this motor/ESC. Any ideas on prop size in APC? Thanks for the advice, I'm new to electrics.
   kevinb120 (75%)
Dude, the PZ corsair becomes a beast by simply putting a 4S 2150 in it with stock electronics and prop. The standard ESC works fine with it. The PZ Stryker as well. Have over 150 flights in a stock Stryker on 4S(standard 6x4 prop only!), almost as many 4s flights on the Corsair.
   jackmack (20%)
the 35-42C I used it on my parkzone Corsair and ripped the wing off and I think you might spend a little more mone for sixty Amp you better reinforce the wing I was in a power dive when they ripped apart! 15c is not good I think 2200 25C is great!

I've posted this in the 40A Sentry ESC discussion, but I think it relevant here too (perhaps either the Plush ESC or Sentry ESC incorrectly described ?):- Please, has anyone verified by specific testing that the Sentry 40A ESC incorporates switch-mode BEC? The labelling says "BEC Ver3.1" (like the Plush 40A ESC) and NOT "UBEC Ver3.1" like the higher power Sentry (or Plush) ESCs. I'm guessing the HK narrative is misleading and that the lable is correctly indicating linear-mode BEC, NOT UBEC. Anyone categorically prove me wrong? (I'll be happy if you do !). "359fishing" posed this same question on 28/12/09 - are we the only two site visitors who are uncertain ?? Surely not ?!

With regards to Heli use, please can someone answer the following:**a) Can governor mode me selected using transmitter alone?b) How is governor mode switched in/out during flight?c) Soft start..... does this option really exist for this ESC as I understand it?, ie....will it gradually allow rotor to transition from stationary to spinning gradually, preventing the initial sudden "snatching" that sometimes leaves rotors wrapped around the head? (ie....at the moment, I need to start by spinning rotor by hand to a reasonable speed, then ***p up throttle trim slowly to prevent disaster!!)-Many Tks, Steve
   bastelspezi (55%)
soft start does exist but will not be slow enough for a heli-rotor to spin up. its more like for planes with big props to reduce torque during the first second. u will have to increase power slowly yourself!
and there is no governer mode! its not implemented!
   Coyote64 (-31%)
The soft start feature does work, ive used it on my blade 400 and xcopter 450 and it starts it up gradually, but it can sometimes still allow rotors to wrap. But overall much better than a snatch start
   Michael (79%)
a)/b): You can switch on/off the governor mode before flying by programming the ESC via the transmitter or using the programming card. I recommend buying the programming card since it is a lot easier and does not cost a lot. You cannot change the mode during flight. c) The ESC does hava a soft and very soft start mode which can also be programmed via transmitter or programming card to prevent broken gears on your heli. The normal start mode is used by default so you have to change the programming before you spin up your motor for the first time.

I have a few of the 40a Plush controllers. The description, here, for the Plush 40A is "BEC mode linear" for the Sentry "Switch Mode". The manual shows both 40A varieties to be "Switch Mode". Both have"BEC - 3A/5V ver 3.1" printed on the label. The 30A and under are clearly linear. Any one know for sure about the Plush 40A? I even saw a post from a guy buying the Sentry and modifying it just to get the switch mode BEC.

Hi, I am using this esc with an 12" Graupner folding prop on a 2meter sailplane with a turnigy B36-50-09 inrunner. Works great, only problem is that the motor keeps spinning (windmilling)when power is cut off to glide, even when I have the "brake on" on the esc. Using the turnigy programming card to set the esc brake to the on position. Throttle trim is set as low as it will go and the prop stops on a static test.Any ideas why the brake is not stopping the prop in flight?
   bastelspezi (55%)
are you using a gear with that motor? sometimes braking force is not sufficient with inrunners directly hooked to a big prop- thats normal with all controllers. with a gear the braking torque is increased a lot. so it might just work fine. does it brake at all?
   Martin (20%)
No gear, but Im using a 2s 5000ma lipo for verrrrrry long flights. I think the prop is too big for the low voltage of the 2s to stop it. I am going to try a 3s with a smaller prop, I think that should do it.
   Martin (20%)
I did get the brake to come on after playing around with it a little more(3s and 9x6 folder). The trick seems to be to bring the throttle to idle very very rapidly for the brake to engage. Anything less than a very rapid reduction in throttle will not engage the brake!
   bastelspezi (55%)
but that should'nt be that way. maybe u haven't set it up right for your throttle range and the controller never gets the brake input. but at 0 throttle position, there should always be a brake (if programmed), no matter how fast u get there. some people are using rubberbands to help the prop close.
   richshutt (0%)
wind pushing against it folding prop will stop it

   DCT129 (13%)
Your card, does nothing to the BEC... Look for a bad wire? Or bad plug..
   DCT129 (13%)

   hwagener (48%)
This ESC is for brushless motors only
   Vidar (34%)
No. This esc have 3-phase AC power to power the 3-phase AC brushless motors. AC into a brushed motor will not work. You must use an ESC for brushed motors.

Flying Wing (56%)
Hi,
I'm using the Plush 40 in micro hot-liner (span 1.2m) with 4 Servos pulling max. 0.4A each. I had heavy interferences shortly before landing leading to a crash. I found out that the switched BEC was causing the problems. The receiver is a multiplex RX-5. How can I fix that problem?
   ChilternFlyer (70%)
Stop using a switched BEC?
Keep the ESC as far away from the RX as possible. I have a Sentry 40 in my MPX Cularis it's fine. I've added more turns on the toriod (green ferrite ring). I think I've got 9 turns on it now. This should dampen the interference from the switching BEC a bit more. I've also got a big ferrite ring in my servo wiring close to the Rx. It's a big glider and I have flown it almost out of sight. It came back OK so I don't have issues with it.
   bastelspezi (55%)
so you confirm it hase real switched BEC, how to you test that?
   Flying Wing (56%)
Hi again!
Now I use another Plush 40 in my Cularis along with the external Turnigy UBEC 3A (max. 5A) since it has to handle 6 Servos now. I disconnected the red wire (+) of the ESC. This setup works perfect! No interferences at all! Although the UBEC is a switched BEC as well (including ferrite ring). I wonder about the differences of these UBEC and the built in BEC of the ESC. Probably my first Plush 40 was broken?! I'm very happy now with the ESC but I would be happier if there is an "opto" Plush 40 available.

Hi,
I'm trying to use this controller with Turnigy E500 motor. Controller is brand new and motor after some time of usage with other controller. Unfortunately I have no programming card. Set-up from transmitter is clear decribed in manual and during set-up I do all "beebs" seems to be correct. Anyway I can't use soft or super-soft start mode. Motor starts always in normal mode. I have repeated set-up many times without the result. I'm wondering what can be wrong?

coolbeans (55%)
I have been using this ESC on my 450 heli for about a month but recently had a minor crash (attempted a tree landing!!). Minor damage to the heli in general but the speed controlling has lost the ability to cut the throttle. If I go into throttle hold mode on my transmitter (which has -2 on the throttle curve) the motor does not spin as expected. However, take it out of throttle hold which should be at 0% throttle and the motor is spinning at about 40%. I have switched the ESC with another one any all is fine so I know it's the ESC that's causing the problem. I am assuming this is for the garbage but just in case there is some kind of reset option or some way to solve this I thought I would check. I have taken off the red plastic cover and can't see any noticable damage. Thanks in advance for any help offered.
   coolbeans (55%)
Luckily I did not throw the ESC. All I had to do was calibrate the throttle which was explained in the instructions. I had to switch on my transmitter with the stick at full throttle. Connect the battery to the ESC and wait 2 seconds for two beeps. As soon as you hear the two beeps move the throttle stick to 0 positions. You should hear some more beeps then a longer tone and you are done.
8/12/2009
fo.bio (73%)
what's the difference between plush and sentry .????
   T.rex.450 (55%)
The difference between Plush and Sentry is that Sentry ESC has a li-po monitoring devise that checks the individual cell voltage (and maybe balance the pack according to HC spec) instead of just monitoring the total voltage of your battery pack to determine the cut off voltage.
   Michael (79%)
The sentry has an additional connector for the balance plug of your lipo. It can monitor the voltage of the single cells of your lipo pack while the Plush can only monitor the overall voltage. -> The sentry allows better monitoring of your lipo voltage, but the additional connector adds some weight.

I have 3 of these esc's and can't get the soft start feature set up. I used the radio, then got a programming card and still no soft start.
   T.rex.450 (55%)
I think the soft start feature just regulate how fast you go from zero throttle too full throttle.

No soft start=you get full throttle right away.

Soft start=you get full throttle after say 1sek.

Super soft start= you get full throttle after say 2sek.

It is like this on several of my other ESCs. Anybody feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

What is the Governor mode and what does it do ?( Turnigy plush 40 amp speed controller and Turnigy programming card) , but NO instructions regarding the " Governor mode" are available)
   hwagener (48%)
If you don't fly helis you can discard any thing about "governour mode"
   Vidar (34%)
I have used diferent ESC for helis, and the governor is in my case controlled by the heli-mode in the transmitter. A governor keeps the RPM constant regardless of pitch/load on the rotor.
   Michael (79%)
The Governor mode is used for collective pitch helis. The ESC tries to maintain the same RPM of the rotor even if you change the pitch of the heli. In normal mode additional pitch will slow down your rotor.

I've got a 40amp OEMRC esc, (similar to Turnegy). I'm using a Spektrum 2.4 DSM2 tx-rx combination and am having trouble getting the speed control to remember the hi throttle setting. What do you think is going on?
   hwagener (48%)
Can be two reasons:
1.) Your controller does not save the settings and resets when next started
2.) Temperature has an effect on the controller or your rc-gear
   Vidar (34%)
Have you adjusted the throttle trim to zero first? The ESC must "see" full, half and no throttle in order to be programmed properly. I recommend the programming card if you still have problems.

Do this product has an governor mode?
   Bryan (67%)
People say it does have governor ** that's why I bought one. But my first Plush 40 arrived with dead BEC (no 5V output at all) so I've not been able to test it properly. However the programming card allows me to set Governor to ON(Yes) and the setting sticks through a power cycle. So I guess the mode will actually work when/if I get a replacement.

Is it also possible to put the governor mode on without the programming card?
In the manual there isn't written anything about it!

Yes, the Turnigy programming card works with this ESC. Far as I know, the Turngiy programming card works with all Turnigy ESCs.

This may be a silly question, but since one of the related products is a set of bullet connectors, does this besc come with connectors on or do I need to buy them in addition?
   Sterling (65%)
You will need to add your own connectors.
   Burnaby (75%)
Haven't seen any of the Plush, sentry nor SS come with connectors beside the receiver one.
   Michael (79%)
It does not come with any connectors. The wires are pre-tinned so you can solder on any connectors you like.
