oops... just read the specs. Does anyone know where I can get one?
Philip  1 points - 4/8/2013

does anyone know what size motor is in this plane? My prop nuts won't fit, and I'm thinking it's the motor shaft that's bad.

How well does this one fly?
ken  1 points - 12/20/2012

Be aware this ARF will not come with a manual. Therefore you will not have a C.G. point at which to balance the plane before the first flight. So you are paying for a static model at this point. Good luck.
 Neil 5 points
If you scratch build a plane you would have the same issue. Try 1/3 of the top wing chord and go a little heavier on the nose. Most models of this type are much better a little nose heavy.

Thanks to Charles-AC6WU for being the real man here and letting us know where the CG is...

Where is the CG on this little bird, please? also, is there any manual. Mine is ready to go to the field except for GG.
 Charles-AC6WU 16 points
The CG is 52mm (or 2") from the LE of the upper wing.

Anyone know what will remove the paint without attacking the foam? They built 320 Dr-1s and only ONE was red!
 Charles-AC6WU 16 points
I painted over my SE5a with Tamiya white primer (lightly) and added a color afterwards...no problems. Just apply light coats. PolyUrethane clear gloss works well afterwards, let it sit for a couple days before applying the gloss. Hope that helps.
 Scott 5 points
Charles, what was the weight gain with the Tamiya primer?
 Charles-AC6WU 16 points
I didn't even weigh it, the coats of parimer were so light amd Tamiya primer is very light weight, sorry.
 Charles-AC6WU 16 points
Oh yeah, we're talking about the Tamiya SPRAY PAINT, not the brush-on.
 Scott 5 points
Thanks Charles, I'll give it a try.
 sfactor1 942 points
scott - just go get a roll of cheap packing tape from the dollar store and use it to lift the paint....much cleaner than using any kind of chemical
 sfactor1 942 points
scott - i think u missed the point that there was only 1 red baron.....any plane that was personally customized by the pilot would also be a unique 1 out of 320 dr1.....especially up to ww2, i think most pilots customized their plane's to be UNIQUE
 Scott 5 points
Hey sfactor! Good idea on the tape, I'll see if it works. No, didn't miss the point, just tired of every DR-1 being RED. I much prefer the streaked green camo of the "stock" triplane. As my avatar says, I hate P-51s and anything else that's same-as-it-ever-was including red DR-1s. It's got to be unique to attract my attention!

Would a 1000mah 2 cell fly this plane
 Louisville 1 points
NO. You need at least a turnigy 1300 mah three cell battery.
 Charles-AC6WU 16 points
And 3 cells...11.1V

what battery voltage how many channels are required?
 fapsauss 183 points
flies GREAT on a 1300mah 3s lipo 11.1volts, you need a 4 channel radio, 1 channel aileron, 1 channel rudder, 1 channel elevator, 1 channel throttle. I hope this helps!
 HEATEDHAT 33 points
would a 2s 1300mah fly this plane?

This plane is not for beginners but if you have some experience building you will be fine. You do need to add about 70 grams to the fire wall to get the CG correct. Given that, the plane flys great and looks even better in the air. I would recommend that you install good hinges on the rudder as the EPO ones are not very strong and allow the rudder to wobble. I love this plane.

Shipping: I Purchased the DR-1 from the USA warehouse on Memorial Day and it arrived on Thursday! Super-fast shipping this time! Building: From opening the box to ready to fly took three hours. It was a very easy airplane to assemble. No instructions were included, or needed. It uses regular style CA and activator. I had to install all of the clay weight to obtain the proper C.G., which I determined to be one third back on the center wing. I would not let it get any more tail heavy than that. I also installed the battery (1000 mAh 11.1v) as far forward as possible along with the receiver. Had to mechanically trim the elevator halves and one aileron servo. Maiden flight: Hand launched for maiden and it flew well. It required some initial trimming on all three control surfaces. Once trimmed it flew well. It has enough power to do a short torque roll then she tail slides. Because of the design of the DR-1, there is A LOT of aileron drag. To make nice turns or nice aileron rolls you must use a lot of rudder, or mix it out on your radio. The tiny rudder is quite effective and the airplane does turn nice by just using the rudder. First flight maneuvers included Loops, Rolls, (Aileron and barrel), stalls, spins, torque rolls with tail slides and wing overs. The airplane performed all very well and scale like. I let the battery run down too low and had to make a quick forced landing wi

I recently finished building/customizing the Fokker DR1. Overall it is a nice scale aircraft with some very nice details. I made the mistake of assembling the whole aircraft before I installed the electronics. It is possible to do after the fact but would have been much easier to do before. There are no instructions so I was guessing most of the time. I chose to re paint the aircraft in Werner Voss’s colors, Green over sky blue and printed my own decals. I used off the shelf paint and didn’t have any problems except where the original decals were; they wrinkled up but nothing terrible. I would have preferred that the kit come unpainted. I have not flown it yet, too windy but I did manage to break the rudder off taxing around the floor. The rudder hinge is very weak and I have ordered CA hinges to replace it. The CG problem mentioned in other reviews seems to have been worked out at the factory by including a small brick of modeling clay. I stuffed that behind the false motor and it seems to be balanced now.

I'll be completely honest when I say that I never got a single good flight out of this plane. I'm a fairly good pilot, but this thing just isn't made to fly. Mine was extremely tail heavy. I put a good chunk of clay lead weights up front and never made it far enough to get it perfectly balanced. The problem is that the amount of weight it takes to get it balanced affects the plane's ability to fly. From what I've read, others have had better luck than I have. I still recommend trying to buy another plane.
