This superb Yak 54 is a sport scale model that really looks the part. The fiberglass fuselage has a deep gloss paint finish and the covering on the flying surfaces is a spot on colour match and is just as well applied, an extensive decal sheet is supplied for the final touch.

Servos are standard size and for the power train, you will be looking at a 4s~5s set up that will spin a nice large prop. The balsa wing is of course plug in for easy transport and with a quick release canopy, this is a very practical and robust model that should look good for years to come. Not only does this model look great, its cheap and the build cost is cheap, for such a great looking sport scale model, its a steal!

A Hyperion 4025/10 with 6s 5000mAHr battery has a flying weight of about 6 pounds, 10 ounces. Problem: with the battery just behind the firewall the airplane still seems tail heavy. I did recycle the single instruction sheet without recording the cg, anyone got that data? Also, the wing anti roll pins and securing bolt holes do not line up we'll with the fuse holes. The wing tube holes were filthy and needed much sanding and polishing before the tubes fit.other than a few probs, it is a great deal for the cost. I'll let you know how it flies, traveling this week.

That landing gear looks ridiculous

ointstrikeflyr yes but it works really well. You cannot agree it is different!

This plane is awfully heavy. Six pounds just for the airframe? Dang.
 Sloperdude 1309 points
Oh pardon me, nearly seven pounds for the airframe alone. Wow.
 LarrySee 89 points
3100grams = 6.83 pounds and it says "Flying Weight" NOT airframe weight. Suppose this weight is an estimate based on installing the "requires" electronics.

So many good 3D planes, so few pattern planes (and no balsa ones.)
 Cesium Candy 946 points
Worldwide the balsa has been bought up for the construction of wind turbine blades. It's nearly impossible to get balsa with the consistency necessary for manufacturing. Many designers are hard at work creating alternatives that are affordable and consistent. BTW: How do I use those emoticons on the right?

Don't get me started on the economic farce and inefficiency of wind for electricity.
 Sloperdude 1309 points
VirtualCowboy, 6% (and climbing) of Minnesota's electrical power comes from wind generators. It also generates a steady income for farmers in the state, and helps them survive economically. Don't get me started on the inefficiency of oil, the U.S. has the most expensive military establishment in the world, largely to ensure a constant flow of Mideast oil.

Touche sir.

I actually won this plane in a HK sponsored fundraising raffle/flyin

Anyone know where I can find a manual for this bird? I have everything ready incliding 500KV 1200W motor, servos, 80 amp esc, etc.

Thanks,

Hawk

Sloperdude There are many things made from oil that you yourself use daily and that you probably could not do without. Besides name an available fuel that is more efficient at powering vehicles than gasoline and diesel. Don't say electricity because you can hardly go 100 miles with an electric car without the help of an IC engine. Think about it
