For many RC pilots, there is something really special about flying a Bi-Plane, and there is plenty about the Hobbyking Pitts S-12 ARF that is special! The Pitts Python is perhaps the ultimate Bi-Plane and this ultra high quality kit really does this amazing aerobatic aircraft justice, not only in terms of scale looks but also performance.

Just look at the quality of the balsa/ply construction and you will see a strong but ultra-lightweight design, and this theme continues throughout the model, carbon fiber control horns, composite/ply motor mount, pull/pull rudder control with rigging wire to stiffen the verical & horizontal stabilizer, glass-fibre wheels spats with large lightweight wheels, alloy cabane and so on.

The Hobbyking Pitts S-12 is designed specifically for electric flight and is also very practical, quick to field assemble, it features massive removable canopy with a quick release latch and a huge battery tray. This is a good size model that will require a 5s set up for sport flying, however, to get the best from this model, we would reccomend a low kv 6s set up.

You'll find the price IS still the same $135,in the international warehouse. This is the Australian warehouse section and the price is different to cover the cost of shipping it here !!

Hobby King AUS warehouse also has to pay 10% GST when they sell in Oz. Global warehouse doesn't. The price is a bargain. Big boxes can cost $90 or so to post from China and 7kg is only $14 from the NSW warehouse unless it's a monster (oversize).

Still no one could explain the big difference in price between the yellow/black and blue/black Pitts. Does color scheme make that much difference in price?

I maiden mine on the weekend, but be warned to C/G stated is way too twitchy to fly. Mine was set at the 60mm from the leading edge of the bottom wing, but to me this is no good. I found the C/G was on the leading edge of the bottom wing. Once I found a good balance the plane turned into a beautiful model.
There are a couple of things I improved on. The aluminium strips that are glued into the top and bottom wings need to be grooved on the sides and faces for a good bond. I used a dremal cut off wheel to make 1mm deep slots on the sides. The slots in the wing were not all the same depth. I used a 2mm drill in my dremal and made all the same depth. Trial fit before gluing to wing. I placed bottom wing to plane and bolted the struts to the bottom wing first flush with it while using the top wing to align. When bottom was dry glued the top wing on. Swapped all the mild steel bolts to hex bolt and locking nuts.

C/G is wrong in the manual. 9 mm from leading edge of the bottom wing NOT 65 mm. (This value will crash your model on first flight!) Nice plane with 5S 5A 30C battery. 18x6 CF prop. 70A Dlux speed controller. Need a van or trailer to carry the plane in one piece. Many little things to adjust, but overall a very beautiful model.

avoid minutes of frustration looking for bolts that dont exist. the bolt lengths specified in the manual do not match the provided bolts. also pay attention to Ballsey review regarding the wing, it is important to make sure all is flush before gluing the aluminium tabs into the wings. also getting the wheel covers to work was fun, if your into randomly grinding away drilling fiberglass.
