Ryan STA EPO (Blue and Yellow) PNF (AUS Warehouse)

Ryan STA EPO (Blue and Yellow) PNF (AUS Warehouse)
Ryan STA EPO (Blue and Yellow) PNF (AUS Warehouse)

The Ryan STA is an icon of the golden age of aviation, quickly replacing the attractive but under-powered Ryan ST (Sports Trainer), the STA (Sport Trainer Aerobatic) won the 1937 International Aerobatic Championship, leading to immediate interest from the US military, if you are lucky, you can still see one of these fantastic looking aircraft doing the air show circuits.

On the other hand, you could own and fly your own! We loved the Ryan STA Plug n Fly so much when testing that it became a firm favorite with all the team. Made from tough EPO, we have really put this model through its paces and it is still going strong! Scale detail is impressive for a foam model, the huge wheel pants, rigging wire, panel lines and wing struts give an impression of a much larger model, both in the air and on the ground.

There is plenty of power from the pre-fitted motor for classic aerobatics like stall turns & barrel rolls, yet the generous STA wing area makes for a superbly balanced model that is just as happy flying at scale speed. Likewise, the pre-fitted servo/control surface combination is perfect, the result is one of the smoothest EPO models you are ever likely to fly.

I do think you are thinking about this one """"PRODUCT ID: H-PT19-20CC Fairchild PT-19 30cc Gas 2047mm (ARF) (AUS Warehouse)""""""" She is a large bird but is the same shape as the Ryan.

So far, my STA has arrived and I have looked it over but not actually built it. All the components are nicely detailed and appear to be made from a very high quality EPO. All the fittings (such as the wheel boots and the strut-wires) look cool. I intend to build this over the Xmas/New Year break. I will do a further review after I have flown it.

I have flown my STA and can now give a rundown on it.

The plane flies really well - very stable and forgiving. At the same time, it will do all the standard aerobatics like loops, rolls and hammerheads. The only problems with the plane are......
a) the main undercarriage are rather close together (scale appearance) which makes the plane rather squirrely on take off and a bit hard to land. I will have to refine my techniques a bit.
b) the plance is a little slow. It needs to fly on about 4/4 to max power to stay in the air. I am not sure if this is an underpower or underpropeller situation.
All in all, I am very pleased with my Ryan. It is a cool scale model which looks great in the air and is very nice to fly.
