35mm EDF Micro Fighter Jet EPO (PNF)

35mm EDF Micro Fighter Jet EPO (PNF)
35mm EDF Micro Fighter Jet EPO (PNF)

This tiny Jet is amazing, EPO foam combined with its featherweight stats means it will be very forgiving of the odd less than 100% landing. The 35mm Fan Unit & ESC are pre-installed as are the linked elevator/aileron servo's, the model comes in 2 pieces so all you have to do when it arrives is attach the vertical stabilizer, hook up the RC equipment to a Reciever that uses Micro Molex 3 Pin conectors, such as the HobbyKing OrangeRX 4 Channel Micro reciever and you are ready to go...... where were we? Ah yes, performing those famous Thunderbirds aerobatics in the local park, basketball court, in fact pretty well anywhere, these models are an absolute hoot when flown with friends, in fact get enough of you together and see if you can pull off some of those breathtaking close formation routine's the Thunderbirds are famous for!

The box the model arrives in is really handy for not only transporting the model to prevent hanger rash but the spare pockets in the packing foam are ideal for carrying spare Lipolys and you will have so much fun with this, I would carry a few! This jet is so cute, even your Wife will like it!

Nevermind, it should work, it says requires RX with 1.25 mm molex connectors, the OrangeRX R415 should work fine.
kpilot786457  7 points - 4/4/2013

Is the connectors on this plane compatible with the OrangeRX R415?
Kai  2 points - 10/25/2012

Hi, what cheap tx and rx is suggested for this model?
 Gary 3001 points
It will be difficult to keep the price down on this as you need a receiver with Molex type plugs. There is the FrSky 5ch Micro which will need the FrSky module and something like the Turnigy 9x Tx without module.
 Kai 2 points
Hi Gary - thank you for the quick answer. My question was asked wrongly - What would be the cheapest Rx/Tx-Solution? Can you tell me part numbers?
 Gary 3001 points
Cheapest I can find is;
Turnigy Tx,No Module Part#9114000005 $49.99.
FrSky 2.4 Module Combo with 8ch Rx.Part#JR-COMBO $38.33.
FrSky VD5M Rx Part#236000002 $9.72.
You will end up with a spare 8ch receiver but this would be useful for something later on.

Perfect - no I also understand the "module" thing. Thanks a lot!

hi guys just wondering if the spectrum DSM2 would work with these servos. thanks
 davepcb 14 points
yes. But need to buy a receiver that matches the connector on the servo. I have one a once trimmed it flew well, good little airplane
 customer5 292 points
Yes it will, any Receiver transmitter combo would work as long as it is small enough to fit. THis doesn't come with a receiver so you will need to supply your own.
Mickfly  22 points - 6/24/2012

Hi all, would like to try one of these but my 9x Turnigy rec. not compatible with servo connections and can't use recommended rec. cause DSM2. Is there a rec. I could use? Cheers
 daan 24 points
I think that's the only receiver that is compatible. But I just replaced them with JR connectors.

There are no 9x micro Rx's that I am aware of. I would just buy the normal Rx and solder the cable directly to the pins. That'll save weight and space.
rcmtl  6 points - 3/27/2012

Where is the CG location and the control surfaces throw pls?
 customer5 292 points
The CG is 55mm back from the leading edge wing to fuse joint. control throw is as much as you like, more is better:).

how does this compare with the HK micro mig and f-86??? they take smaller batteries but theyre bigger. will this fly in a gym like the f-86 and mig???
 FireHawx 81 points
This is another Skyangel jet like the F86 & Mig. They all have differant flying charcteristics. Yes on 2S you could fly it in a large gym. Any place you could fly the F86 you can fly this.

but why is this smaller but it needs a bigger battery?

does this micro reciever works with the hobbyking 4 channel tx same in bixler ???
 Kellyann 16227 points
Mar11 no it does not. Also it does not come with it either. Sorry
 firefly123 13 points
HobbyKing, will you offer this in an ARF kit like the F86 Sabre ?

Hi does this little jet comes with landing gear and can I use my E Flite LP5DSM Tx to use with orange rx on this site for this jet. Thanks
 Maumy 516 points
No don't thInk so, plus plane is small I don't think you need landing gear it just add more weight. And yeah I think you can use the LP5 e Flite with the orange rx for this jet. As you can't fly it very far because of it's size.

The receiver dosen't work with my RC E-Flite Blade 6 channel!!!

rec. only work with dsm2 maybe dsmx harold h.

Is this the same airframe as the 50mm Mini F-16?
 MegaTesla 576 points
No. It is made by the same manufacturer, but this one is smaller and uses a 35mm fan and smaller 2.5g servos.
MegaTesla  576 points - 10/14/2011

That massive grass scoop on the bottom is really unnecessary. It would have flown just fine if it was smaller.
 Wazza_99 866 points
Yeah sadly, the smaller they get, the less scale they are!
 HobbyKing_Admin 8862 points
Its a long EPO intake. The 35mm EDF needs all the fresh air it can get. These were tested with smaller more scale-like intakes and for sake of performance the larger intake design was chosen.
 MegaTesla 576 points
With adequate power a 100% FSA intake works fine even on 30mm and smaller jets... We are grateful though that you are selling these! Thanks! Was that testing on 2S or 3S?
 Strike3 151 points
I agree MT... too big! It would be easy enough to close down the duct a bit by slicing wedges out and regluing... I reckon it would look much better, even if you have to add some small cheater holes like the Phase3 F16's, gives you somewhere to hold them for launching.. I will definitely do the mod and run it on 3 cell, this one will be a nice jet though I'm sure...
 Dave1 114 points
Wow, what an ugly b***h. Maybe cut the ducting apart from the upperfuselage (that's anything above the bottom of the wing) and remove 5-10mm and glue it back. I expected this one to be more scale. Damn.
 sfactor1 947 points
who needs extra holes for hand launching? the f16 has to be the easiest jet airframe to hand launch
 meanbean 46 points
hope there's enough foam between the duct and battery area to hog out to accommodate 3s
 MegaTesla 576 points
It looks big enough for 3S Nano packs. Maybe if you use the Thunderpower or Rhino fat 3S packs you will have to hollow out the canopy.
 Jackson 1 points
does it come with a batterly
 MegaTesla 576 points
It does not come with a batterly or battery as is written under "Required".
 Harold H 65 points
to dave1 why cut the duct? more air in more power out the tailpipe!!! harold h.
 MegaTesla 576 points
Harold, Air in = air out. And that is limited by your fan. Air speed at the exhaust can be increased slightly with a narrower exhaust. An oversized (>100% FSA) intake only creates drag. Static thrust might be slightly higher, but static thrust means nothing when your jet is in the air.
 Harold H 65 points
i agree.but most still use cheater holes harold h.
 firefly123 13 points
Does this plane have wheels or does it needs to land on its belly ?
 Harold H 65 points
land on belly. and fly it like u stole it!!!!!!harold h
 firefly123 13 points
HobbyKing, please offer this plane as an ARF.

Addendum: Achieved a total weight incl. Turnigy 2s 500 mAh of 115 g.

Full throttle gives 70g thrust (=61pcnt) @ 5 A with 2s Lipo (ESC is 6 A max.). This is absolutely sufficient for hand launch. I successfully flew this setup.

Tried 3s Lipo (only on ground, not in the air): Full throttle = 130 g thrust (=113pcnt) @ 8.5 A => too much for stock ESC.

Safe landings,
Bernd

I just got one and have two flights on it. It flys amazing! I am using the 2s 460 mah turnigy nano tech. It seems to fly the best with the battery 1cm back from the very front. In order for this battery to fit I had to melt some foam, there are 4 little peices of foam that are suppost to support the battery. In order for the battery to fit you must get rid of all 4. OR what I did is I heated up a butter knife and just melted off the bottem parts so that the battery slides under them. The battery stays nice and tight in there and it is easy to take in and out. I must note that the screws on the control rods need to have loctite on them. On my first flight I lost the elevator and needless to say I nosedived into the ground at 50 feet high. But I just tightend that control rod, and now it flies amazing! It flies OK in 10 MPH winds. I will recamend this plane to experianced RC pilots, its a little to unstable for beginners, it likes to roll over in the air. I will have a flight video up shortly.

Fast! This plane seems to fly best at 3/4 throttle. Not for beginner, anymore then a light wind the jet will be thrown around in the air. Nose cone is fragile.

One of my favorites. Little mods here. Other than running 3s with 10amp esc and 3 blade rotors. Ended up replacing nose with plastic nose cone from a rocket. Fitting for this plane. NOT a beginners plane. Check out vidoes under "danieljduff1978" on youtube. You can see the plastic nose cone at work. You'll see what I mean.

This plane is ready to fly in 5 minutes. It is small, fast and agile, so I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. To start, you need to launch it quite hard. When it's up in the air and no wind, it flies like it's on rails. It also looks very good when u make low passes. Landing is easy, it glides very well without motor. This little jet flies ok with the stock Setup, but if u really want to have fun with it, buy an additional ESC (I use a 12A) and use 3S batteries Use the 3 blade fan rotor when using 3S. Remember to take a break between the flights, so your ESC can cool down. I didn't and had a motor cut-off but I could safely land it because it glides so well. I prefer to fly it a little bit more nose heavy than to have the CG at 55mm like mentioned in the manual. I had one crash, because the left servo blocked and it went down in a spiral, nose first in the ground. Built in a new servo and needed some glue for the nose, flies well again. Buy it and have fun with it!
