The Famous F4U Corsair in a totally new style!
The HobbyKing F4U Corsair is a very neatly designed EPO parkflyer. This Plug-n-Fly R/C plane comes with a brushless outrunner, ESC and servos all pre-installed. All you need is a 2S battery and receiver.
Build time is around 15 minutes and does not require glue.
The tough EPO construction keeps the model bouncing back for more and the strong 2607 outrunner motor provides plenty of power on as little as a 1,000mAh 2S LiPo.

Specification:
Wing Span: 800mm (31.5in)
Length: 660mm (26in)
Weight: 420g
Motor: 2607 Brushless outrunner 1400kv

How much weight will I need at the front with a 1000mah 2s 20 - 30turnigy battery all the way up the front
 SigiK 193 points
If you can, dig out the steel weight behind the firewall first. Then put enough lead into the nose cone bottom as far forward as possible. That way it's lighter. COG is 55mm from leading edge of wing. Make it slightly nose heavy. Balance it upside down.

How do u set up the ailerons on this plane
keenanj3cub  22 points - 1/3/2013

I just ordered this plane can it glide into landings easily
 Ross 13 points
This plane needs to be flown all the way to the ground, keep the speed up as it does not glide well. power off and flare about a foot off the ground. The Corsair is a ton of fun.

Thanks and do u know how much weight u need at the front with a 1000mah 2s 20 c battery
 Ross 13 points
mine was pretty close to CG straight out the box, make sure that the battery is pushed as far forward as it will go and I have replaced the prop with an 8.5 x 9 prop & 3mm prop saver.only needed a 10cent piece glued below the motor to balance.

Does anyone know what battery connector this plane has?
 Gary 2962 points
It comes with the small red JST connector.

Does any one have bad experience with the plane stalling and crashed nose down. I thought this plane can fly at low speed. But, it didn't. What might have gone wrong?
 David 33 points
Hey mate. Flying today, basically you need to fly under a considerable amount of power. Had the same thing happen 2 times today to me mate. Basically this plane is to heavy to glide or run at low power. But at full pelt, its got some nice pace. You will crash or stall at low speed guaranteed. To be honest. Keep the power running, and definitely keep it powered when banking and turning. It'll save crashes. Ive done the same thing, broke off part of the elevator, but all fixed now. Hope this helps mate.

Heyy all, controllable tail wheel or not ?
 shoefly 12 points
Heya, Not controlle tailwheel straight out of the box (no rudder either)
There are linkages and space for a rudder servo, although that wont help making the tailwheel controllable much easier.
Personally I ditched the landing gear after it came out while taxiing. Prop is short and flexible enough that belly landings on grass are nice and relaxed.

Has any one else found that this model is very hard to see when flying , the dark blue just turns into a black un detailed blur in the air.
It is very hard to tell what the plane is even doing .
 frank 5 points
yes, indeed. Very hard to see and orientate.
 SigiK 193 points
Yes it's a pain to see which way it turns, think I will repaint it a lighter blue
 SigiK 193 points
Repainted it navy blue on top, silver on bottom and nose cone yellow. Good visibility now.

I just received this plane. Is it truly EPO? I have EPO trainers and the foam is flexible and shiny. I've crashed them many times - no problems. The foam on this feels like the dry foam - dont know the technical name - that would smash on any impact other than a belly or landing landing. I bought it because I thought it was EPO - anyone confirm this?
 mungral 18 points
It is indeed EPO.
i have driven mine into the ground many a time, hit power lines and also fences.
the plane paint job is looking a little rough, but the foam is still in nearly perfect condition.
there are a few dents in the leading edge of the wing but i have never split or cracked the foam.
hope this helps

I've just bought this model, I was wondering if I can use a 1000 mAh 3S 15C battery with it's standard ESC and motor?????
 Kellyann 16221 points
Luca yes but you will have trouble with the ESC. I hope this helps.
 frank 5 points
Yes you can. Make you change ECS to 25-30A ESC.
Keenan  2 points - 6/27/2011

Can you use a 3S 1800mah 40C with this?
 GTR 34 Skyline 39 points
The ESC wont handle it but you can fit one in and change ESC.

 hamid 30 points
The YouTube review says you can use it.
 GTR 34 Skyline 39 points
There is no problem when mine arrived to run it on 2s or 3s but as always test it first run it up on 3s and feel temp of esc while it is tetherd if the temp climes dramaticly then shut it down and disconect 3s and you will either need to run it in future on 2s or upgrade esc. My corsair is running 3s 2400mah (it is a rhino0 not your standard battery to use but it just fits and turns the corsair into a missile.
 hamid 30 points
thanku for ur info. Really helpful. Now I can order mind. I want to run it on my 3s 2.2a 20c zippy lipo with stock esc n motor. Any more infos??

There is a review in S&E mag on the FMS corsair that looks identical. the reviewer fitted the extra servo and got rudder working. He said it wasn't worth the hassle and made the plane more tail heavy requiring more weight in nose etc. otherwise he said this was exelent and tough plane. Another disadvantage I see to moving rudder is that it is very vulnerable and prone to bust if plane noses over on landing. best fly it and enjoy as it is.
 GTR 34 Skyline 39 points
I have to agree with this coment as if you do instal the rudder you must also remeber that the small corsairs are prone to spin in onthe left as the wing stalls and people that hav had the plane tried in vean to rudder there way out and it wont work the extra weight also means that most people that I have met with this aircraft have left the cg just a little tail heavy thinking it would be no problem, now they are buting new planes.
thekhakinator  11 points - 1/20/2011

This one's only 3 channels, no rudder control?
 fanny 511 points
Thats correct. If you have your own spare 9GM servo everything else is there for conecting ruder up. Already very tail heavy though, and rudder convertion makes this worse for little benifit. Rino 2s 750 MAH battery fit perfect
 GTR 34 Skyline 39 points
Thats right but they provide everything you need eccept the servo to put one on you just have to clear out a hole were the servo sits then makr an exit hole for the provided control rod, atach the provided horn and cut the decal along the hinge line to free it a little now cut the rudder along the line at the top of the rudder check that the rudder if moveing freely (if not gently run your knife along the hinge groove at the centre of the hinge joint but dont go all the way to the top and bottom

hi all does the esc that comes with this have the xt60 connector or the red type?? also whats the best battery size to fit this plane.. when matches with TGY 30 a esc and TP 2409 12 t
 GTR 34 Skyline 39 points
It's ESC comes with a JST plug as for the best battery to use all I can say is I used a 2cell 1300 20-30c turnigy batter as these give a total of 8min flights on the motor ESC instaled on the plane.
Michael  1 points - 1/10/2011

Hi, Can anyone give me the catalogue number for a more powerful engine for this plane, an ESC that can handle it and a longer running battery pack?
Also spare propellors? the 3 bladed ones?
cheers
 jetspeeds 431 points
I have not got this plane , but it motor is a bell shaped, similar to the towerpro bells. Have a look at the towerpro 2409 12T. This engine hoots on 8x4APC prop and a 25A esc, 3s lipo. You could put a larger ESC in there. I have this engine on my Hellcat, with a 40A esc running a 2200 3cell, get roughly 6 minutes flight on the 8x4 APC prop. Motor comes down only warm.
 jetspeeds 431 points
just be careful running a 3 blade prop on this engine. Still will look scale like with the prop spinning!!!

Same as FMS Model see discusion. Absolutely stunned by the quality here for 75 bucks! Best HK model I've had to date. UC seems sturdy and easy to remove.1st with instructions and C of G etc. Magnets actualy feel strong enough to hold canopy on. My only gripe (has to be one doesn't there?) is: Because corsair cockpit is so far back, the recomended battery position is behing C of G. Don't like calving up a new plane, but I hate adding lead as model feels heavy enough. so i put a hatch above cowl just behind fairing. Plenty of room now for an upgraid to 3s if desired. How hard is it for desiener to do this in the first place? Still 5 stars

I don't know what it is about Hobbyking Corsairs. This is the second one that I have ordered that arrived with the vertical tail piece bent like a pretsel. The first one was the larger Art Tech version. Aside from that it is a nicely detailed little plane. Disappointing to find that the C of G is so far tail heavy even with the battery pushed as far forward as possible. I had to add so much weight into the nose to get the recommended 62 mm balance point from the leading edge that the plane wont launch even on full throttle. It just pancakes into the ground. I might have to resort to surgery to try to get the battery further forward. I have now pulled some of the weight out & will try again to fly it. Just hope it is not too unstable in flight. Tail heavy planes have a high probability of biting the dust.

By experimenting with adding weight in the nose ( & it took a lot of it) I have finally maidened this little bird. It is fast & skittish not at all like the bigger Hobbyking Corsair which is a pussycat by comparison. Maybe mine is still a bit tail heavy because it hobby horses in level flight even with 45 of expo dialled into the elevator. I have taken off the gear including the tail wheel as the tiny wheels provided are no good for grass. Have also painted the underside white to help with orientation in flight. This is definitely not a plane for beginners. If you are a learner & want a Corsair buy the bigger one as it is much more docile & floats in for landings.

Ordered on Friday from the Aus warehouse, arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday. Easy to put together, took 45 grams in the nose to balance with a Zippy 1000mah battery (nicely hidden under the removable cowl).

I set the control services to minimal throw for maiden flight, found them to be quite responsive, elevator very much so. First flight had a few steep climbs, dropped 10pcnt movement off elevator in the controller to smooth out the flights. 3 flights, 3 nice and easy landings and no damage (much better than some of my other maiden flights).

Recommend hand launching and removing the undercarridge for belly landings. Found taxiing to be difficult to keep straight on both gravel and concrete, and found that the wheels are way to small to land on the grass without wanting to flip over.

Surprisingly quick little plane, but still very stable and confident in the air, and a real pleasure to fly. Definately recommend this plane.

Centre of Gravity is way out. Started with 7 grams added to the nose cone and plane was practically uncontrollable and led to a number of crashes. Ended up putting in 30 grams of weight to the nose and now flies well. Also flying it on 3S and have 1300mah battery pushed all the way forward. Only purchase if prepared to modify. On the positive side it can take a beating. Very sturdy plane. Quite fast on 3S and very responsive, even with the control throws set low.
