The old "size ratings" are commonly used, but do not address the power of the engine, specifically. (You could put many different engines on a "9()-size" plane, and get very different flying characteristics.)
Size the engine using power (watts). This engine is rated at 2.1 H.P. which is 2.1 x 754 watts or 1583 watts (running redline). It takes 150 watts to fly one pound straight up. So this engine should be able to put out 1583 / 150 or 10.5 pounds (running redline).
Unless you want to run this engine at full throttle all the time, 70% throttle may give you .7 x 10.556 or 7.4 pounds of thrust.
So, figure out the full up weight of the plane you want to fly. This would be a good engine for planes (with a lot of wing area) of 7-8 pounds, for vertical aerobatic flight.
But, you must have a plane with a strong firewall and front end, to handle the vibration of a gas engine. And you need a model that can be balanced to the proper CG with this weight of engine. And you need a model with enough wing area to keep the wing loading somewhere near 23-25 ounces per square foot.
When you put all this together, I think that this could be a good engine for a 65 inch wingspan Extra, with a full up weight of 6.8 lbs. Such as the generalhobby red and white Extra, or planes that are in this size and weight class.
It doesn't matter much what the "size" label of a plane is. You want to match the power system to the weight, and wing area, and desired flying characteristics of the plane. If you do that, you can't get too far off.
I have done lots but it is just my word I need back up. On the Space Walker a member is saying, to fit a 15cc gas engine. He says he has done this and it flies well. I think it is far to big and dangerous. What do you think?

proof let him put a 15cc gas engine on his spacewalker with a 15" prop that will prove he is wrong. I say that assuming his spacewalker is a 46 size better with a 9cc however in that size gas engines still lack power but are getting better
Cravin I know but he (majesty at the UK warehouse) says he has put the 15cc in, his Space Walker, with a 14x8 prop. I do not care what he does. But if a newer flyer does the same it could be dangerous. So I need a "bug the boss member" to take it up!
ok the 15cc is 2.1hp at 19cc and turns a 15'prop a 46la is 1.18hp at 7.5cc and turns a 11"prop. I was being sarcastic in my last reply becouse its so silly. but those are 3 sets of # showing thay are different displacements hp and prop. hope that helps u can also show weight. the 15cc is 2/3rds more. good luck
I started a POST on the Members forum. HOPE I will get some support there. It is very dangerous I think to tell EVERYBODY (NO YOU) it is ok to use a 15cc gas on the Space Walker when it is rated for a 9cc. Sure a better flyer may handle it BUT!
Why are you obsessed with the fact this is dangerous, all model engines are dangerous, this engine is just bigger than it needs to be for a Spacewalker. Mine has a 4260 Turnigy motor capable of 1425 watts or about twice the power needed.
Received eng today Its almost the same size and weight of my dle-20. I was hoping for a 25% smaller engine as its rated as a 15cc , turns out to have a 19.6cc displacement. for those wanting a slightly smaller eng than the 20cc this is NOT it. weight , size, HP, displacement, prop size are almost the same as a 20cc they just call it a 15. I might still try it on the project it was purchased for. Its my fault for not fully reading description and doing comparison.
I purchased the 15cc engine from HK and the muffler is way to large. The muffler mounting holes
On the engine are 24mm apart, and the holes on the muffler that came with the engine are 31mm
apart. The barrel is 87mm long with the diameter 35mm. This muffler is for a much larger engine.
Has anyone else had this problem? John
Boa sorte.
The 20cc is only about 150g heavier, and it is cheaper. If your plane can carry the extra weight, why go for the smaller engine? A plane that weighs under 2500g 15cc is too large. 3200g and up is probably ok for 20cc. CG balance is the biggest factor. Adding too much weight to the tail can cause flying troubles and high wing loading and higher stall speeds. If you can balance the plane without adding extra weight other then the power source (battery, engine , fuel), then the extra weight probably won't be too much of a factor.
Would someone with this engine be able to tell me the total length of the engine and engine mount stand offs? from the aft edge of the stand off to the front of the prop drive washer.
The engine mount standoffs are 2 1/2 inches or 62mm. The total length is 6 3/8 inches or 162mm. This measurement is from the end prop shaft to the end of the carb. John
HK does not carry the beam mount. You can get it else where, but I would advise against it. Even though the beam mount engine is slightly more powerful, and weighs less, it does this with a 5mm shaft instead of an 8mm. A single prop strike could likely end in a bent crank shaft. I would rather see a side mount carb model. This engine is too long for most planes and requires mods to the cowl and moves the weight further forward which is a negative as these gaser's are already heaver then the nitro engines they replace. You would thing HK would order these in greater numbers by now as they are always out of stock.
Pode substituir um .60 2T ou .90 4T... Poré*m é* bom que você* reforce o aeromodelo ou tente reduzir as vibraç*õ*es pois este motor vibra mais que um glow... Espero ter ajudado
What weight is the plane ? If the model is light - then it should work. I find the engine is excellent powerhouse and once carburettor set - throttles well. But make sure you use mild throttle for first flights until all beds in .. too enthusiastic throttle causes cut out in first tankful through ...
Not heavy at all. Moreover it is a high wing plane. I use 15cc gas on HK beaver (1.6m) and 26cc gas on World Models Cub (1.8m). Landing is slow and take of is short. Climbs vertical till out of sight without issue. Power! Easy to start. Clean!
I have a couple of 3cell (11.1V) LiPos lying around, can I power the DC-CDI with it, and what BEC do I use (how many amps)? Anyone ever test how many amps the CDI need? tks...
the real answer is , use average 300mah, its not a high power consumer, if your not running WOT it can be back to 250. I have a few gassers, and thats a RCXell copy ignition, i use one of them aswell, hope it helps.
Hi, I have a F3A pattern plane for 91FS to 1.10FS. The wing span is 1700 and flying weight is about 3.9kg, i tried flying it with ASP 91FS prop size: 15x6, it seen to be under power and can't do a verticle up. WHen i tried full stick on verticle up the engine store after few second. Will my plane perform better(more powerful) with this RCG 15CC engine??? Can anyone help... Thanks
I would suggest the 20cc. The 15cc makes a good replacement for the .60-.90 size planes and if you plane is designed for the .90 and not performing and your engine isn't the issue, then you make have same problem with 15cc. Actually though I believe you are over propped, try a 13x5 or 13x6 before jumping on a new engine unless you are dead set on going gas.
technically it sounds like the same displacement but 91FS would be more powerful because of the nitro fuel it uses. Anyway 3.9kg sounds heavy to me... 20cc to 26cc might turn out better as it mentioned 1.10FS
Actually the weight of this engine together with wires and CDI is around 1000g. I rather he picks a 20cc which is 1100g but the power is much better ratio in terms of "power : engine weight"
I just received my engine and I find the hole drilled into the prop shaft still ends below the prop nut with the prop mounted. So the greatest stress on the shaft is on the weakened part of the shaft. Is this shaft still as dangerous as the previous version? Did I get a new version hub at all??
The weight that hobby king state of 825 gramms (Including ignition and muffler) is false.. the engine alone is 825g if you add the muffler and ignition it becomes 926g Hobby king need to fix this ...
I wonder when this engine will be available for non USA customers? stock is -2 here and 7 in the USA warehouse. Wonder if HK can take back 3 from USA warehouse and make it available here. I intend to order but not keen to order on back order. Will order as soon as physical stock is available here.
The third photo showing the accessories I presume means everything we see will be included in package? Specifically, those 4 stand off engine mounts. I know it sounds silly to ask, but there have been occasions where buyers complained that what was shown on the photos of items they bought, did not come with the package.
I would like to change my OS .50 nitro engine for this for my helicopter TZV2 Frenzy, someone has done, any help possible me gustaria cambiar mi O.S .50 nitro por este motor para mi helicoptero TZV2 Frenzy, alguien lo ha hecho, alguna ayuda posible
Look, this engine is compatible with the .61 glow engine 2t, 4t, or .90, but vibrates more that is done I recommend strengthening the aero system or adapt an ant vibration

I bought this motor a few months ago and put it in the 46yak 54 fiberglass hobby king. Very powerful for its size. Set it on a 13/6 prop and yak do hover at 1/3 throttle. Very happy with the engine and the price very good
This motor arrived during promptly the week, and was very well packed . I was able to test bench run it Saturday. The tuning was way out but enough that the motor would Idle with full choke. After a little tweaking I was able to get it to idle with out choke and in a very short time and a little tuning it was responding to fast throttle changes instantly and running very smoothly even in the transition from full throttle down to idle. I have changed the plug for an NGK though. There is a little fore and aft movement in the crank shaft and a tiny bit of looseness in the big end bearing, but for the price this is not an issue. I have not tested the revs yet but I'm running a Master air screw 15*6 prop and I can say it sounds good. The castings are a little rough and a little hand filling on the exterior would make the motor look better but would not effect the performance. Over all I'm am very pleased. I will add a flying report as soon as Ive flown the motor, probably in a .60 size plane.
