I just got my second one last night and this one was gray I just thought a lot of you would want to know it looks nice too
Patrick  1 points - 5/12/2013

what is the wingspan
 Shoestring1958 8 points
28 inches, and about 40 inches long
bturby  47 points - 4/30/2013

Why they price increase I bout this plane before for 74 dollars in the us ware house. I ordered it again and thought twice about it after the price increased by over 10 dollars now I wish I would have bought something else
 Shoestring1958 8 points
Supply and demand? Who knows, I think still a great bargin though.
 bturby 47 points
I87 dollars would be a bargain only if the elevator was set up better stock instead of so terrible I have to od it to fly
 Shoestring1958 8 points
I used 2 servo horns ( cut into two halfs ) then epoxied then in 2 equal locations on each side to run the elevator rods thru, a very easy fix and added all the strength you could ask for, added a dab of met blue paint and you dont even notice them. Will try to post a video soon of the mods I made. Hope this helps.

I just replaced one of the tail servos with a reverse servo and made a straight rod.
 Shoestring1958 8 points
That works too,

wat is the wingspan?
viengkou  1 points - 4/26/2013

Can I use 1800mAh ?
 Shoestring1958 8 points
Yes, You will have to modify either the existing battery box, or install behind the nose wheel whitch is a easy mod. No matter what make sure your CG is with in limits and you will be fine. I am running a 1600 30C in mine and it fit into the factory box, and getting 8 min flights from it.
Shoestring1958  8 points - 4/14/2013

The one shipped to me ended up as the Blue Angels, Im not the least bit upset about it. Nice detail and the mettallic blue paint is sharp. Beautiful plane. Very smooth fan/motor unit. Running mine with a 1600 30C battery. For the price, a very good buy!
 Shoestring1958 8 points
1600 30C fits nice in the factory battery box.

if i ordered the airplane with 5-6 day parcel how long should i expect to wait?? because today has been the sixth day and still no airplane someone answer me please and thank you:]
 bturby 47 points
Some times it takes 4 or 5 days to ship the plane and then once they ship it the plane will arrive in 5-6 days

Yep, sounds about right, Hopefully as time goes by a bit they can get thier shipping department geared better. Really shouldnt take 4 or 5 days to get anything in the mail.

This plane calls for a 3s 1300mah 20c battery. Can I use a 30 c battery to get better performance?
 Luis 1 points
Certianly, a 30C will give you a bit more thrust. usually 20C batteries have max peaks of 30C. Meaning during moderate flying continous use 20C is being drawn, but your peak 25-30C will give you that burst. 30C battery you purchase may have max peak 40C .
Luis  1 points - 3/13/2013

Why is this plane inexpensive, is it low quality, hard to fly, not PNF? Retracts, how many channels? Specs are somewhat vague.
 Shoestring1958 8 points
It is an Art Tech model, and has been on the market since 2009 or 2009. Not the fastest, however fast enough. Very good quality plane. Not for beginners, however i believe that if you have been flying for a while and comfortable with a sport plane this would be a good plane to get into edfs with.
Timothy  11 points - 3/8/2013

Man do I hate ordering from this site!! Ya NEVER know what you're going to get back in the mail and ya NEVER know WHEN it will arrive. I have NO IDEA why I keep coming back. lol Terribly managed company.

I received notice that 20 of these items arrived at the USA Warehouse, So I ordered mine yesterday. Will update once received and will write a build review.
Ampdchaos  12 points - 12/7/2012

Mine came as the blue angels one from flite test and not the grey one pictured. I like it so not gonna bother returning but just a heads up
carrycraft  2 points - 10/14/2012

I'm confused on how the elevator servos are wired and how to make them work in the same directon. They seem to be wired together into one servo connetor that I plug into the elevator channel and they both move but in opposite directions. How do you make both move in the same direction from one connection?
 RCplaneman 40 points
One side has a flat push rod and the other side has an "L" shaped one so one servo horn faces down and one faces up. It works with the Y plug in the elevator channel.

 carrycraft 2 points
Thanks RCplaneman!

Alternating the horns works like a charm. Seems like an obvious solution now but I couldn't figure it out at the time.
 bturby 47 points
On mine the stock setup didn't work well enough so I got a reverse servo on the side with the L rod and made it a straight shot for more control.
 RCplaneman 40 points
Yea the bent pushrod is quite flimsy and weak i had to put a plastic piece in the elevator to hold the wire from bending.

Oh F..K! Why the one i received today is the blue version and it is not EPO foam? Can Someone tell me why?
 SuperCub13 1 points
The usa warehouse is stiil a bit confused about everything but you can mail it back for a new one
 Runping 70 points
I dont want to mail it back. As you know, it would take forever for them to reply to this-if I am lucky enough. They still owe me 2 servos from my last Icon A5 order yet(placed order last year). I dont want to wait to fly the F18 until next new year.
 bturby 47 points
None of them are EPO they are eps it never says so in the description though I would just fly it if you can. Hobby king owes me a left wing for a glider and they said they would keep me updated and I haven't heard back that ws a long time ago. Mailing it back will also cost money. It really posses me off when you get a defective or wrong product and you have to ship it back and pay for their mistake.
krashNburn  54 points - 8/28/2012

Is this EPO foam?
 SuperCub13 1 points
i believe it is

I noticed when EPO not listed in product description it is made of another material so i have stayed away from those planes and save the trouble of buyer remorse.
 timothy 6 points
it is definatly epo i have the yellow one for 65.00 im so lucky
 bturby 47 points
It is eps foam if it was EPO it would have a little flex. It is also smaller grain than EPO but eps works fine
 guitaramp68 40 points
its the arttech and its not epo
Aulsie  9 points - 8/10/2012

Can anyone tell me if this plane is gray as in this pic or is it blue/yellow like the pic on the one from the DE warehouse item that is supposedly the same?
 SuperCub13 1 points
you can choose if you want the blue angels version which is 95 dollars or so and the grey one is 65 or so and they are very similar so it is a 30$ price difference for a paint job (the way i see it)
 timothy 6 points
i got the blue and yellow for 65.00 i guess i lucked out the picture is decieving

Can the motor and ESC handle a 4 cell battery? I've heard a 3 cell is not enough. I plan on getting this and the EF2000. Thanks for any helpful replies.
 R/CNewbie 3808 points
No, a 4s will make the magic smoke come out of the motor. You could always replace the motor and esc with 4s compatible components... Better safe rather than sorry :D
 bturby 47 points
there is no chance what so ever using a 4s. After 30 flights with a 3s my esc failed.

please guys can you help me to find a good motor that will fit the stock fan and that can actually push this bird up! thanks
 bturby 47 points
any 64mm fan should work. the alloy fans from this website should really get the jet moving but any motor and fan above 3900kv should work ok.

Does anyone know if the epoxy supplied with this kit is any good? First on to answer gets 20 cents!
 James 3 points
I would use 12 min epoxy. The glue they send is more like contact cement and does not hold up well
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 RC_guy 33 points
No good at all I would use the 5min epoxy. I hope this was helpful! :)
 Brandon 4 points
So far I have seen two different types of "adhesive goo" shipped with this product. The 2 part epoxy was just fine, the other.... not so much.
 bturby 47 points
I used the glue provided and after 31 flights it has held up fine.
RcFlyingForLife  4 points - 2/24/2011

Would it be safe to use a 1300 15C? or would that be a battery hazard
 H-KING_SCOTT 5161 points
Performance can suffer with Lipoly's with a low C rating in EDF models, try to use at least 25c for all jets.
 RcFlyingForLife 4 points
but would it cause the battery to puff alot or would it be safe
 UltraFlyerDude 4 points
yes but it could damage your battery. you want to use something with a 25C rating at the least.
 RcFlyingForLife 4 points
Can it take a bigger bat, say 1800? or is the 1300 with 30c good enough?
 eric 45 points
that will be fine, but check it the battery promptly after your first flight to make sure it hasnt swelled any.
 CaptainGiggity 5 points
The 1800mah pack is fine you can use a 2200mah battery
 nitrox 7 points
it will work you can use a 2200 with 25c
 bturby 47 points
i use a turnigy nanotech 45-90c and a regular turnigy 30-40c and both work great. 1300mah is the biggest that can fit unless you modify.
JIM  1 points - 2/23/2011

IS THERE ANY WAY TO PRINT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS F-18?
thanks JIM EGGERT
 UltraFlyerDude 4 points
you can go to hobby king and see or call and ask or email them
 CaptainGiggity 5 points
I don't think there is a menu for this. The airplane is easy to put together-I don't think you'll need the menu.
 nitrox 7 points
i have a maxjet f18 and im sure that the build sheet would work for your application
 Jeremy 2 points
You probably could call them, but I doubt you will need it. I also know there are some instructional videos on youtube if you look there.
Greystone  5 points - 1/15/2011

Is there a manual for this plane somewhere? What is the two pieces of black plastic for, and where do they go?
 eric 45 points
No there is no manual. If you look at a real photo of the blue angel, you will see to "wing Fences" located on the forward canard part of the wing. They are just for looks on this aircraft, buit on the real fa-18 they delay seperation and decrease the stall speed of the aircraft. There are two little slots if you look at the aircraft from the top.
 bigmattyl 5 points
if you look closely on the picture they go behind the cockpit on top
 UltraFlyerDude 4 points
i dont know about the manual but the plastic pieces are little scale fins either next to or behind the pilot. if you look at a good pic of the f-18 you'll see it
 nort99 60 points
I am not sure what they are called but they go on the top of the fuselage right in front of where the winds attach to the body. There is a indented place for them. They both slant outward. This plane flies great by the way. I have many hours on mine.
 beezlebub 226 points
does anyone know the top speed for this? first to answer get ten cents
Devildog126  4 points - 12/3/2010

What is the average flight time?
 eric 45 points
The average flight time with a 1300 MaH pack is about 4-5 minutes. I modified mine to fit a 2200HaH 3s pack behind the stock location, I am getting about 6-8 minutes of good flight depending on how hot I wring her out!
 rtechno98 7 points
depends on the battery you are using. a 3s would run a little bit over 10 minutes. also depends on the speed!
 UltraFlyerDude 4 points
well if you gun it you probably get a few minutes. but if you ajust the trim a litte up, and lower your throttle yu can get more time out of it
 CaptainGiggity 5 points
If you modified the jet and fit a 2200Mah 3s,you will get 8 minutes of flight time, and she flies better with the 2200Mah battery
 bturby 47 points
I use a 1300mah battery and at about 4 minutes the battery cuts off.
aalope2001  170 points - 10/15/2010

Is this EPO foam?
 briangp 82 points

 UltraFlyerDude 4 points

no, it is EPS
 Samuel 5 points

This is a great EDF jet. High quality foam, good components and good flight characteristics! There are a couple mods that you can complete during the initial build that will make it even better like battery bay behind front gear servo, elevator servo reverse, adding rudders, etc. I use a 4Ch HobbyKing DSM2 receiver in it.
As-is, its a great addition to your collection.
CG on mine is at 23.5" from nose.

Great aircraft, easy to fly. My buddy bought this. It's basically a Dynam F/A-18 product. Slows down to glide long as you don't do advasice manuvers at slow speeds. Gear is sturdy and works. Fast and very agile can do inverted flight with correct elevator control, all in all not bad for the price!!

Update on my review. I still Love this plane!!!
I've put 30 or so 2200maH batteries through it and it is spectacular. Stock power is adequate. She floats well. Only complaint is the landing gear is super flexible, causing very bouncy landings.
I cut a battery hatch right behind the cockpit and its perfect. CG at 23.5" from nose. Just added a Turnigy gyro to the ailerons. Also added some skids to the rear to save the foam on landings.

Great plane. I've had this model for a couple weeks. I like everything about it. Nicely detailed. Has plenty of power. You will need a good 40 or 50 feet of runway for takeoff. And even more for your landing. I removed the landing gear after the front wheel broke off. I have no trouble hand launching. And this greatly reduces the required landing surface needed. This jet is very stable in flite. I would recomend this model for both experienced and beginer edf jet flyers. This model also glides very well with no throttle for smooth landings. Motor and esc have been trouble free in over 20 flights. I would purchase another if and when needed. Thanks HK.

Nice plane flies very well, a little underpowered. 2200mha 40C helped a bit (cut battery into bottom just behind the nose wheel servo. Servo harness wires were miss wired. Check operation before glueing on wings, saves a lot of hassle. Removed gear for belly landings. that worked better for where I fly. Overall love the plane have flown it a ton, very stable and glides much better than I expected. Interested if anyone has put in a larger motor?
