The Hobbyking brushless Decathlon is great fun to fly, regardless of your skill level. The Decathlon is capable of most aerobatics, as well as slow level flight. As with all high wing style planes, the Decathlons stall characteristics are completely predictable, making this a no-stress aerobatic or trainer model. All that you will need to get this kit up and running is your own battery, transmitter & receiver plus 10 minutes building time. This model literally clicks together in no time! Included with the kit is all hardware, landing gear, brushlessoutrunner motor, ESC and a spare propeller.
Hi All, I've got all my mods on this plane down pat .... I run 2200Mah into a moded battery area via the compartment, bigger motor, 9X6 prop ... and it perform like a rocket aerobatic ... however, the landing gear is still a problem. Can anyone provide any help on what you have done or link to a reasonable set of landing gear so I can loose the useless set it comes with ... Thanks
hi there is nothing on this that cant be fixed with epoxy, foam safe ca or hot glue gun, hardware can all be found on hobbyking site. mine has been glued back together a few tims now even the cowl not the best looking plane but still looks like a decathlon and flys well. good luck with the repairs
Gday Mark. This decathlon sure does take a 1600, in fact, I just ordered one for a mate, and I only had a 1600 3s to fly it with. I do not use the battery compartment, instead, I mount the battery in the large hollow area below the wing. It may be a bit more inconveniant, but trust me, its alot easier when figuring out the c/g with bigger lipos.
Mark it will be fine with a 1600 3s but make sure you get the C of G correct. If you are taking of form the ground find a smooth surface. It is best to us a pitch or court. If you must use grass make sure it is short and smooth. I hope this helps
Marzz if you really wish this to happen you need to got to Contacts then Support Center and raise a ticket and suggest they bring her to the USE. Be nice about it they will take it on board. I hope this helps

foreverflying247 sorry for the late reply. No you cannot buy replacement wing here. Hobby King is getting better in there parts but they can only keep so much. I you look at the International Warehouse under Planes ARF,RTF,KIT / replacement parts. Then you will see what they keep.
Hi guys, is this plane good for beginners? Just Had tried to flown two planes but crash it. So would like something that is easier to fly and handle. Thanks.
I don't think so. But it will depend on how new you are and what flying experience you are at now. If your pretty new to the hobby you should try something like a bixler or the AXN floater. That is the perfect trainer plane.
I would disagree with kellyann. Tail is weak. Too much flex in rear stab and rudder rods. Aielerons are a mess. It's a good aircraft once a lot of mods are made
I've noticed since i've built the plane. The yaw is backwards on my controls. When taxing, i yaw left and the plane goes right, i yaw right and the plane goes left. Can anyone tell me why this is? thanks!
reverse the channel on your radio and have a look at the servo and make sure that the servo is set up correctly (cable or push rod is not on the wrong side of the servo) good luck
Yes I agree with munchies. You may need to check the reverse switch on your transmitter. You should also make the following check below to ensure that the rudder and nose wheel are coordinated. This will tell you if the pushrod for the nose wheel connected to the correct side of the servo.
Looking from the rear of the plane when you apply Left stick on the rudder, the trailing edge of the rudder should turn to point toward the left side of the plane and the nose-wheel should turn toward the left too (like a car's front wheels turning left). Hope this helps.
Could be interesting otherwise. A bit like trying to walk a line when you've had too much to drink!
where can i get parts for this? My first take off 1 meter in the air and it rolled and destroyed everything but the fuselage...http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/ images/em_cry.gif
Hi there thats a ***mer. I would recommend getting some 15 min epoxy and try and return it to some form of what it started as but hand launch at full power, get your CG at about 75mm from front of wing, some weight at front or the battery mounted forward, a bit tricky with this plane but I cut out the top oh the battery compartment and hot glued a foam box type thing, could of described that better. that allowed a 1300 3c bat the 800 3c fitted well with less weight performed better but shorter f
You would be pushing the friendship with the speedy & motor. i use a 2200 3s 20 and im on max amps
and motor windings are starting to look burnt.
I have a 2408-21 and 25amp speedy waiting to go in
when it dies.
Great plane, still flys great.
I am still waiting for mine to arrive, but have read a good starting point is around 58mm from the leading edge. Here is a link to an old instruction manual ***********art-tech.cn/english/pdf/Decathlon.pdf
go to RC Groups and you will find a thread for this decathlon under the Australia region with lots of mods and advice. I have one and the CG is around 6cm from leading edge. It is a great plane but needs some work to get it going right. The wing struts will pop off from the body on your first flight. Hot glue them back on and no worries. Make sure you use foam safe CA on this one too coz its EPS foam
read the comments i wrote about this plane on the AUS site . if you follow those instructions you will have a top little plane. they fly grate so i bought a second one for later.
The CoG on mine is at 58mm from the LE. You can find a link to a manual on rcgroups. It is not all that helpful though. I have 80 throws on all surfaces on mine with 40 expo which works well. Great plane IMHO!
ive had , and killed this plane , i just put recommended batt in the battery holder and she flew great for so so many flights{died after i hit power lines} awsome plane for a trainer aswell for airobatics
when i done a check on the google currency convertor it still looks to be cheaper from the main w/house even when you take shipping into consideration. (Thats if your not in a hurry and can wait a bit)69.99 U.S. dollars = 74.6400768 Australian dollars.1 Australian dollar = 0.9377 U.S. dollars
I gave them a go and bought one, ordered wednesday & it arrived on friday. Also got a 3D EPP in the same box for same postage cost so its not so bad.
now i have to find a Battery to fit in the tiny decathlon battery hole I have some 1300 2s that wont even fit. All the bits to put the 3D EPP I had to order from main w/house so still have to wait anyway. NSW w/h OUTSTANDING FAST DELIVERY
I have flown this plane almost every week end before nitro curfew lifts (before 9am) with a vertically inserted 2200 3S lipo. cut the bottom out of the battery box and form a new battery hole with foam from a old box lid. check and adjust balance. flying time in excess of 30 mins and a lot of fun.
Fast delivery from Oz warehouse (3 days). No damage, all parts included. Had to separate control surface from elevator as the existing "hinge" (squashed foam) was causing too much hard work for the servo. Created new hinge by applying scotch tape to both sides. The rest of mods as already mentioned by others. Initially I cut a hole for a vertically placed 2200 3S lipo, just aft of landing gear. Bad idea! CG too far back, aircraft terribly twitchy and unstable. Ended up with mounting the battery almost horizontally, butted against firewall. Requires surgery but now the model is quite suitable for beginners. Stable and predictable. Flying with 3 channel transmitter. Operating aileron and rudder from one channel - servos connected with Y harness. Note for beginners - start with smallest possible throws on control surfaces.

1 thumbs up!
Cons:
Battery compartment needs alot of modification prop is weak wing to fuselage struts come apart and are hard to put on
Pros:
once you have modded the battery trat, you can fit much bigger bats in Flies VERY good with VERY good acro skill (for a begginner/ amatuar level)
My verdict: A bloody good plane if you are a begginner or just want a problem free fun flight! great plane, thx hobbyking.

Well I now have 2 wrecks, the prop is a waste - make sure you buy a couple extra, there is plenty of room to place an oversize battery under the wing, just be willing to unscrew the wing to recharge. This thing hates turns under half power, this is what has destroyed both of mine. It feels cumbersome but is the best flyer I have yet seen, make sure you use the rx extension or longer antenna rx as one of these lost contact at quite short range (second had better rx setup) it has quite thick foam. It comes apart easily - better that than disintergrate on hard landing. Foam glue works well with this one as there is 'meat' on the bones to work with.

Had one of these for 4 months now and it just keeps getting better.
Sure it needs a few fixes like the battery compartment being too small and the struts popping off, but once you fix these things you will have a great little plane on your hands.
Set the CG 60mm from the LE.
I have flaps on mine, larger wheels, individual aileron servos, 8x6 prop and several other mods.
Great aileron trainer with very few vises that grows with you as you learn.
So what are you waiting for.....

This is great stock, but it makes the best float plane. I've converted one to take GWS floats. Completely filled all the access holes in the bottom and cut a battery compartment just in front of the screen to take a 3s 1300 Lipo, with care you can keep it in the air for up to 13 minutes. My other conversion is an upgrade to a 1500kv motor, remove the wing struts and run carbon fibre into the wings, remove undercarriage, stock prop and 3s 1300 lipo to keep it light. You'll be amazed at what it will do!
