HobbyKing YAK 54 Brushless EPO Plug-n-Fly (AUS Warehouse)

HobbyKing YAK 54 Brushless EPO Plug-n-Fly (AUS Warehouse)
HobbyKing YAK 54 Brushless EPO Plug-n-Fly (AUS Warehouse)

The YAK54 is a very neatly designed EPO 3D parkflyer. With smart features such as side-flip canopy for super fast battery & wing removal, 1 nylon bolt wing brace and unique rudder hinge system. This YAK54 doesnt borrow hinges or horns from the parts bin, its all totally new, resulting in a plane comprised of parts that work together better, reducing weight, increasing strength and ultimately making it a more enjoyable plane to fly and work with.
Because of its weight, the YAK54 only needs a very economic motor system, the 2408 sized brushless outrunner gives more than enough power on a 2S 1,000mAh battery. You dont need to buy expensive batteries to enjoy this plane, 20C is all thats needed!
The large control surfaces and quality included servos make this very 3D capable.
Wing moulding and fuse fit together perfectly with unique servo locations and you wont find any ice-cream container cowling here, its all EPO!

This is a well designed and totally new 3D parkflyer that wont dissapoint even hard core 3D pilots. Its scale details visiually appeal and are backed up by its flying ability!

Does this thing have enaugh power for 3D flight?
Thanks guys :)
 Padge 21 points
Not hovering. But it will do just about any aerobatics you want.
brady  6 points - 12/30/2012

would this be a good plane for a person who is in-between a beginner and intermediate flyer?
 Padge 21 points
Heaps of fun and can fly in a small park or indoor stadium. Yes recommend for a pilot between beginner and intermediate due to its weight. Because its so light not much breaks in a bad landing. That's said if something breaks a bit of glue will fix it quickly.

I've asked this on international page for this plane, but tought I'd try here too for a quick response: What spinner would suit a 10x4.7 prop (GWS style)? (Seen as that seems to be whats recommended). Cheers
 Thomas 16 points
maybe a 40mm diam spinner
 Kellyann 16221 points
SammyC the one that comes with it is a foam one but you could use PRODUCT ID: E45spinner-3 Aluminium Prop Spinner 45mm / 1.75 inches / 3 Blade. I hope this helps

what motor can i use in this plane
 Kirkles 115 points
It's kind of hard to replace the motor so wouldn't worry about it. If you haven't yet got this plane then don't! It's not an enjoyable one

 Kirkles 115 points

 Thomas 16 points
what motor can i use in this plane

 Patrick 4 points
As long as you use a motor that can produce around 500 grams of thrust you will have a great little performer plane that goes pretty fast we did this mod to a mates and goes vertical to no end.

. . . Due to its marginal flight characteristics, I am still left unpersuaded on purchasing this foamie bird in spite of the current flash sale of $69.13. . . .
 Walou 53 points
If you are prepared to spend a few hours tweaking it, it can be modded into a fine little sports plane. 8 steps to Joy: 1: remove the steel weight in the nose 2: move motor forward so that the front of the motor is level with the nose of the plane 3: enlarge battery slot so that a 3S1000mah lipo will slide all that way to the new motor mount position. 4: fit a 9*7 or 10*4 slow fly prop and aluminium spinner 5: 6: replace aileron servo with HTX900 7: check all control surfaces for ease of movement , remove some of the hinge foam as required. 8: dual rate to 50% throw and 50% expo on aileron and elevator for first flights. after the above mods, its a very good sports flyer. take off in 1 meter and unlimited vertical. It can even glide a little and fly slow !
 Walou 53 points
5: check for wing negative dihedral and correct if required
 Thomas 16 points
you can also cut the ailerons off and fit Nylon & Pinned Hinge and also on the elevator

Are rattlesnakes angrier or more friendly if stood on while making love?

Jason, according to David Attenborough, it's not recommended unless you're a professional snake 'charmer'.

He is in Adelaide, it would have been a Brown Snake. Nasty. Fred, had a chance to set it up yet?
 Fredylg 55 points
no i just got the battery today, trying to set up the esc but i have no idea how to... is different to all other hk esc i own
  James 633 points
.

Isn't the ESC good to go straight out of the box?

.
 sirgarfield 85 points
all wildlive comments made by expert snake handlers nodoubt...funny to read but, please carry on
 Fredylg 55 points
Well I wanted to set up the break on the motor but is not possible, the plane is powerful enough with the 3s 1000mha battery, it needs expo on the ailerons, needs to be fly fast other ways will go straight to the ground
 tonybooger 193 points
I thought I read somewhere that people in New Zealand would be able to order from the AU warehouse. BUt it wont let me do it as yet.
 Ben 4 points
Like the rest of NZ you could just move to AU . Saves on post :)
 Chris 8 points
or get a m8 in Bris to send it to and catch a cheap flight to collect it. Gives you an Aus hol too. Moving here is better tho'

2 thumbs up!
Ordered Monday afternoon, shipped Tuesday, delivered to Melbourne Thursday. Thumbs up.

I set this up with the supplied prop and a 3S Turnigy Nanotech 1000mAh battery. I doubt the plane would CG correctly with a 2S 1000mAh. Anyway, here are the figures:

16.2A
10.72V
8220rpm
440g flying weight

Within the capabilities of the 20A esc. There is enough thrust to pull vertically out of my hand. I'll test fly it tomorrow and report more.

Well got mine together and flying... Down load the manual from the HK web site.. Using 7.2v 1000 mah battery, grass take offs and landings ok... If the grass is short!

Very chuckable around the sky, not overly powerful ... But ok I wonder wot a 11.4v battery would be like?

Simple to put together.. Small than I thought it would be, but fun little one anyhow!

Happy customer.

Did a Flight Stock 2s 800ma lipo draws 9 amps approx 73 watts
Ok Flier but needs that little more Power to give a decent vertical.
So Change prop to 10 x 8 that i had and now it Flies and goes well and only increasing amps to 13 amps and now 105 watts.
Nice Overall Plane, Still clearance from ground to prop.
Heres link for Props using www.link

Arrived duly double boxed and intact.Nice little kit. First flight performed with 3s 1000mah zippy lipo went ok but servos in model won't centre properly, so was a bit hairy but it survived. Have changed the aileron servo to a HX900 and rudder and elevator to HX500's. Now servos centre a lot better. This model is NOT a beginners plane. Very little control surface movements are needed. I wish that Hking would put half decent servos in these things as the ones used are crap.
