1.What is Idle current? 2.It is given here ESC 60A, does that mean that the maximum current that can flow thruogh the motor is 60A. 3.Also what propellers to use ....... basically how to calculate the lift or thrust due to the motor? Please help....

Friend, this engine is recommended for the 600 class heli, but you can check the measurements of the holes of the engine that can go right.

can this be use into a hk 550gt heli for sports flying? if yes what size of pinion gear is suitable and esc?
 TooManyToys 15 points
Im pretty sure this motor is good for 550 to 600 size helis. I had it in my 600 and was nice for scale flying. Its not a powerhouse, but good motor to start with
 jean-bernard 13 points
of course, with 15 or 16 teeth , no problem

Is the hk ss70/80A esc good for this motor or is it going to be under power?
 TooManyToys 15 points
I used this motor on my 600gt and it was great. I used the turnigy opto 150 amp esc. Its a bit of an overkill, but i recomend having more than less so u dont fry any of your electrics during flight
uso no meu 600gt com um esc 85amp uma bateria de 25c 5000 6 celulas, e com um pião de 15 dentes, voa como uma bala! recomendo!

Whats the best timing for this motor ?
 Helimaniaco 8 points
For the heli i use ever medium-hig timing because it work in high revolutions. The motors of helis are the sustentation of this. Please credit me if this is useful

whats the proper frequency and timing for this motor? im getting a low headspeed even though im using 15t on my hk600
 solidcarlo 27 points
im using an 85amp esc still low headspeed for my 600 using 15t pinion.. can i change the esc to 100amp? will this improve? thanks!
 solidcarlo 27 points
still waiting for reply, did someone managed to run this motor on 2000rpm headspeed on hk600 or any 600 size heli? thanks!
 bruchpilot_DA 7 points
You have 6s lipo? if yes following is the right way: you only have to change the gear to increase your headspeed. If you have the HK600GT your maingear is 170teeth. with an 15tooth pinion you get at 100pcnt speed 2185headspeed. With an HK600GT you di not need 2000headspeed. 1900 is enough.

Is my turnigy 85amp esc sufficient?

If your a beginner that ESC will be big enough. I'm no 3D pilot but is never had problems with that.

I am having the same issue...very low head speed...stock maingear,13 tooth pinion,150 A k-force esc 6s battery....whats the best timing for the typhoon 600 motor...changed the pinion without success
 doug5166 1 points
this motor is rated at 60 amps, an 85 amp esc should be more than enough.

Can someone tell me the connector pins suitable for this motor to connect with Turnigy Brushless ESC 85A w/ 5A SBEC?
 Dominic 1 points
yes you can use 3.5mm gold banana connectors bur make sure you use the protective sleeves to prevent them touching and shorting out.
 bruchpilot_DA 7 points
this motor comes without connectors. The ESC, too. so you can choose 3.5mm oder more for connecting you motor to the ECS

Where can I find a 5mm pinion to use with my HK600GT?
 speed freek 199 points
Here is the link www.link gear will work perfectly.
 TooManyToys 15 points
Hi there, I found that the genuine trex 600 is supposed to use 5mm pinion gears. Hobbyking only stocks 6mm pinions that do not fit the 5mm shaft on this motor. So your best bet is to find a place that stocks align trex parts. Try looking online, the US is good
 Ettore 6 points
We need a 16T pinion with module 0.7. The 10T is useless on this engine rides are too low
 Ben 4 points
google 5mm 0.7m pinions. I bought a set of Rhino pinions which came with two each of 12,13,14,15 tooth pinions. Only cost ~$10. I would however like to find a 16 or 17t pinion to run a slightly higher head speed.
 solidcarlo 27 points
i bought mine in readyheli.. use rhino pinions, they have a lot of 5mm shaft pinions with different modulus...
 cookien 2 points
if you living in USA .you can go to Helidirect**** to order the Rhino pinion with cheap price(2:$2.50)

I have the hk600gt set up with typhoon600h 1100kv,hk 70/80 esc, had to switch out main gear for KDE 164 tooth gear and 15 tooth pinion. 6s battery is getting hot and puffy, esc is also getting hot (only hovering). tried timing at 1',7',15' degrees no change. soft start jerky. am i loading up with the gear and pinion? Does anyone know how many poles on 600h 1100kv? What is mod on pinions? **** And just for reference the KDE gear is awesome no noise and absolutely true.
 TooManyToys 15 points
I have a similar set up to you, turnigy typhoon 600h and a the opto 150amp speedy. I am running the stock main gear but changed the pinion to a 13t. Also the motor is 2 pole. The motor on my heli draws around 60 amp with bursts of upto 100 amp, maybe why your battery and esc are getting hot, might need a bigger esc
 Nozor 27 points
F or my HK600GT with lot of Align parts. Turnigy 85A esc, 15T pinion, 6S 5000mah 40C turnigy lipo: 7min of cool and nervous flying, and motor, esc and lipo just a little little hot. No puffing lipo, and lipo have 50 flights ! I love my 600GT, and this motor ! I have the same serie on my HK500GT with Airwolf align fuselage, and i have the same serie on my HK450V2. No problem with all of these.
 jsgabe 5 points
how many teeth on your main gear? i am using a KDE 164 tooth.
 joseph 11 points
that motor is sorta small for a 600 heli. its a little under powered for a 6s trex 550..

 Orlando 25 points
here are the specifications:
Kv: 1100rpm/V
Voltage: 3~6S
Max Current: 60A

The site does not specify the exact max power.

if max rated voltage is 6s and current is 60A, then max power will be around 1300W.

Thanks Shonen for your answer. I asked for the max power in watt - so i know, this motor have 1300 W.

Will this fit in the Raptor 620E? I need the mounting hole dimensions to know for sure. The KV rating looks a little high for the Raptor gearing 11T or 12T/111T. How does this motor compare with the Zpower 50A?
 tddundar 2 points

Mark,
Fits perfect for the E620 but use 10 tooth pinion (standard for E550).
Look at the files section for the build info (and youtube's).

Maybe an idiot question but.....noone use 8s with this motor?
 soldyman 38 points
Its for 3~6S .That means 22.2 v max. I believe it will burn out with 8S
 veleno71 14 points
I've never heard of anyone who sends him to 8s. and I think in the long run does not hold.
 scamair 10 points
gets really hot on 8cells
 Murphy 34 points
Avec un contro de 84A, convient très bien pour un Trex 600 en consommant 30 en moins. Vol de 8mn possible.

Hello, How many magnetic poles has this motor?
 Orlando 25 points
The specifications on this motor regarding the number of magnetic poles are not specific but it does come highly recommended from all of the heli forums. See motor specs in summary: Big, tight copper wire turns with thin, tightly packed laminations and a small stator/magnet air gap make this motor very efficient and powerful.
 Patrick74 14 points
Yes,I'm sure. But I need it to setup the RPM in ESC CC Ice.
 Mark 6 points
The good motor, has put such on HK 600. It is heated nothing, possesses the big draft.
 superagus 8 points
12 Poles.
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 Patrick74 14 points
It's completly false! Please don't reply if you don't know or not sure. With 12 poles the rpm was only 1700 instead of 2070. The correct number of pole is 8 ! PS. I will try this motor on my Gaui 550
 Olaf 5 points
Hey, which timing for use the motor?
I also use this for Gaui 550.
 Patrick74 14 points
You can put auto/normal/medium or even Low. Higher is the timing higher the motor will be hot. I dont advise to put the timing on high with this motor. Frequency PWM on 8khz or auto outrunner.
 mrblobby 169 points
Hi Patrick, Does this motor work well in the Gaui 550? Thanks
 Patrick74 14 points
Hi, Yes very well. Much power than the Z20 motor. It's similar with Z30 motor from Z-Motor but half the price.

Is the 13 or 14 tooth pinion a better option than the 10 tooth on the HK600 with this motor
 tddundar 2 points
Hello, 10 tooth means less heat and battery consumption for this motor.(with 6s).Because motor has less torque and high rpm than other sales. My offer is use 10tooth i am also using on my hk600.
 Phetalasy 16 points
I used this on my Trex 600e with 13 tooth pinion, performance as good as original trex 600e stock motor.
You might strip main gear with 10tooth pinion.
 kevin 16 points
it depends , what do you want most ? more headspeed and more stability but less flyingtime then go for the 13 or 14 tooth pinion. if you want to do some scale flying with scale blades whch require lower headspeed and want a longer flight time then the 10 tooth will suit your purpose
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 tonytheone1 7 points
14 tooth
 Mike 5 points
Depending on what head speed you want to have the 14 tooth would do you well. You can actually use a 15t pinion if you want too.
 ModHeic 37 points
I use the 13 teeth pinion which gives nearly the same rotor speed as with Align XXL motor and 10 teeth pinion. Seems to be the good choice ... for my (cool) way of flying !
 Guido 5 points
I fly with 16T at the moment, but ESC is on 65 and becomes very hot. So i think the best choice is a 15T pinion.
 fxstava 1 points
This depends greatly on what type of flying you want to do, you are aiming at high head speeds
this means VERY responsive and extra strain on blade grips, bearings and head assembly.
Mine has plenty of grunt with the 12 tooth pinion! :-)
 jason 1 points
yes i run the 14 tooth on my hk600 i get a good head speed
 gdcarter 37 points
A very efficient option (above 80%) would be a 17T pinion with a 5s battery (perhaps 2 x 2200mah 5s). I don't how easily obtainable a 5mm 17 or 18T pinion would be.
o1hoegetter  1614 points - 1/7/2011

what pinon gear do you use on this the 5mm or the 6mm does it matter.. you should send them with every motor along with bolts and bullets
 psygn0sis 9 points
The "Turnigy Typhoon 600H Heli Motor" needs a 5mm pinion. If you bought a HK600 Heli kit, it will come with a 10 tooth pinion. Hobbyking does not stock any 5mm pinions other then the 10 tooth. I recommend searching other sites for a 5mm 13 or 14 tooth pinion.
 deankeogh17 6 points
Is the 13 or 14 a better option than the 10 on the HK600 with this motor
 Guido 5 points
Youll need 5mm pinions. My HK 600 flies perfect with this motor and a 15T pinion 5mm.
 fxstava 1 points
The 5mm or the 6mm refers to the size of the motor shaft....in the case of the Typhoon it is a 5mm shaft, they are NOT interchangeable.
The 5mm will not go on a 6mm shaft and the 6mm will be VERY sloppy and off centre on a 5mm shaft.
 DaklWingDuck 2 points
Hello everybody, where can one find pinions with a 5mm shaft (Align uses 6mm) AND the correct pinion modulus (0.7 I beleive to be compatible with the T-rex600 main gear)??? Thanks

what C rating lipo should i use with this motor ?is 25C ok ?

You should write how many mah you are gonna use
 hadirabie 196 points
4500 or 5000 mah... does it really make a diffrence?
 black_hawk 93 points
Yep current sup-liable by lipo = ah x c so 25 x 4.5 = 112.5 amps or 25 x 5 = 125 amps specs say 80A ESC so you should be good either way :)
TrevJonez  570 points - 4/28/2010

if you think your going to do some 3d with this thing don't be disappointed when it bogs and your tail blows out on any full cyclic input with any other collective input.

60*22.2=1332watts which is very low for a 600 size heli

realistically if you are going to do any 3d flight with this thing you will need at least 2000watts constant current to maintain but even then it likely won't take a beating.
 downloader 376 points
Some HK products are underrated, a perfect example is the typhoon 4000kv for 450, which is rated for 200W, but puts out about two times more...
 HARALAMPOS 1 points
TrevJonez i think your answer is the best. For a long time i am reading what people say about different motors for 600 heli and after ordering mine i realised that things are as you say. This motor with 10 or 13 pinion cannot provide enough power even for sport fly.Tail gets really unstable.I will try it with 16 pinion and see how it wiil go, If the result is not the expected the i will heve to buy a more powerfull motor

I use the standard T-rex 100A ESC. To avoid shaking at startup, I had to put ESC in "low timing" mode. This setting is used for Align two pole inrunner motors.
If it had 100A max current it would be a 600 helicopter upgrade. With 60A max current it will handle sport flying but not 3D. A good first motor for your HK-600GT, not a powerhouse. Absolutely good quality for your bucks.
