The Durafly SuperMarine Spitfire 1.4M is a large scale, high quality EPO model, and includes steerable tail wheel, Shock Absorbing Retractable Landing Gear. Due in part to its large size, the SuperMarine Spitfire has excellent flight characteristics making it a great plane for beginners & intermediate pilots. Included is 6 servos, 11x7E propeller, and a large high quality 35 series outrunner. The Durafly SuperMarine Spitfire will arrive 95% RTF, leaving only the tail pieces and wing to be screwed into place. Assembly time is around 15 minutes.
Just include your own Rx, ESC and a battery to be ready to fly. Note: Tail servos have been upgraded to heavy duty 12g versions to prevent servo failure on hard landings due to the large tail control surfaces.
*Note: This model has a wingspan of 1.4m, it is noticeably larger than a normal foam plane. Due to the Spitfires eliptical wing it has a tendancy to tipstall, however Durafly designers have created the model with 2 degrees of wing-tip washout to help prevent this phenomenon.

I've just received mine, I prepared a 40Amp ESC according to the instructions, while all the reviews talks about 60Amp or higher, so will mine 40AMP ESC works ?

I tryed to order this but I am told. Unable to ship this parcel to your country due to size/weight.Order is either too large, or too heavy for shipment to your country.
Is there an other way HK can ship ihis another way?

I would like to replace the motor in this plane as I would like more power, is this motor ok 35-42A 1450kv Brushless Outrunneror or is there a better motor for it, if so can you give me the model number
Michael

I don't have this plane on hand but I suspect that motor's kv is too high. For a plane of this size, I would look for something in the 700kv range for 4s, and prop it for about 800Watts or more.

Perhaps this one...on 4 or 5s? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7069&Product_Name=TGY_AerodriveXp_42_SK_Series_42-50_650Kv_/_1150w

I am running 4S 3700 packs on std motor, 60a Turnigy ESC and 10x6 prop. STD 1100kv motor loves it, cool after 7-8 mins but is a little nose heavy when landing in grass.

The same problem for me too! I live in Mexico and tried to buy this beauty, but instead HK gave me the answer that they cannot ship it because it's too big. So I requested to HK and they told me that they can't do anithing about it. What a shame!! It seems that we'll never had the right to fly this babe.

Dude, the big local courier companies have offices at some big airports around the world. Look for that information. You can ship your plane to one of these offices and they can bring it right to your door. However it will cost you more.

HI, RiMr71,I have a question for you I have a airfield P-51 mustang at 1440mm wing span I have looked every place that I can think of to find what size motor to put in it (it was one of those fast buys before I really thought about it)anyway it is just about the same size as the spitfire if you could give me a idea as to whats in it as far as the motor? it would REALLY help me out it swings a 14"prop and is about 3-4 lbs when done Thanks

In general, and as a rule of thumb, the CG should be 1/3 the distance from the leading edge of the wing at the root, slightly afterward is ok.

This plane is so ugly and un-Spitfire around the cockpit area. How did they get it so wrong? I looks like the canopy came out too small and they had to fudge the body to fit it.

I just think it's a shame they didn't make the effort to get the shape right, and I know other people who think the same thing. Hey! If you are happy with it, good luck to you.
Whiskers

Yep, it's the canopy area that is so bad. The rest of the plane is quite good. Which is exactly my point! Why did they go so wrong in that detail? OK, it's just one thing. But think of a girl who is perfect except she has a nose like a pig.

If wishing that the model had been made the same beautiful shape as the Spitfire makes me a "girly whiner" I guess I'll just have to wear it

It's just such a great deal maybe HK's best deal for planes I think and if that Giant Yak doesn't come in I will have to consider this plane. The fact that this thing comes with retractable landing gears and the size makes this a no brainer. Cheers Whiskers.

IMHO if you require a super detailed cockpit it shouldn't be too hard to carefully remove canopy (maybe factory should leave these lose)And do it to your own standards. Frankly i find it hard to pick this in the air but a pilot looks good on th deck. I guess these are made to a price.
justin
(66%)
they did screw up the fuse south of the canopy. The spitfire canopy should sit above the fuselage which should make a straight line from tail to front. This model the rear behind the canopy is strangely thick and high, extending from the top of the canopy back.
justin
(66%)
forget what I posted. The Spitfire Vb (Supermarine) does look more like this, with high rear fuse behind canopy and those square scoops. So if this looks wrong, it must be subtle.

Great discussion ! do the complainers actually know how many different types and subtypes, conversions and prototypes of the spitfire there are (were) ?
I'm pretty sure this one looks just like at least one of them *-)
If it ever gets to the german warehouse i will get me one !

i would say this spit is done on the mk XIV.i think it looks very scale for a piece of foam.even models that are made to scale never are as they all have subtle changes to help with there flight abilities!
Alan
(82%)
IMHO I think its a bit precious to take scale too seriously at this end of the hobby. It's important to remember that these foamies (like many models)are "cartoon scale". If you don't exagerate the prototypes features a little they can look bland. This is a fine, generic, pre bubble-hood spit outline that can easily be adapted represnt most WW2 marks.

Can you increase the throws to get more sensitive control inputs? Maybe servo speed is slow with the stock servos. Nice demo. Yeah my Pitts has the going left tendencies too slight rudder trim fixes that.
BCBasher

You could always just buy it local for $220usd, not! If a dealer in North America even had it it'd cost $450-500 with a throw away radio, **** charger, and a ****py low c battery.

There are other asian retailers that ship models this big at reasonable prices. BC basher, you can have a top tier warbird from hanger 9/topflite for $200+. Most people will not spend that kind of money on a foamy.

Arrrgh! It won't let me buy it. It says the parcel is too long or too heavy for my country. Sob!
Jason, can't you do something about this? Maybe send it by alternate means. Have you check properly the actual allowable postage values? I have bought the Lear Jet (from other stores) and the Fly Fly F-86 (from HK). Why can't this fit?

I had a look again at your photos. If you would leave the motor/spinner off and also the tail wheel, the package can be smaller. The limit of the package by EMS to Malaysia is 1.05m length without going into volumetric calculations, so I think it can be done. The Spitty 1190mm full length from tip of spinner to tail of rudder. If you remove the spinner etc it should be MUCH less than 1050mm. Please think about repackaging this so that you can send to more countries.

Hey HK ive got the the same "mail" problem! you wont let me process my order to NZ because of oversize??? Ive ordered the fly fly Sabre before..no problems before & EMS of much larger heavier aircraft orders from other RC suppliers too! Cmon Jason get it fixed! Hey Jason, thanks for the reply. Its NZ Post for Int air parcel, that will be 'rejecting' on the size, however EMS is not delivered by the local NZ Post office service in NZ. How about updating for EMS only for New Zealand..like the Australian delivery option.. $85 EMS? A separate NZ courier company delivers EMS in NZ. Thats how my FlyFly sabre arrive too from HK. Ive just had a larger & heavier box (80inch Tiger Moth ARF from China!) by EMS arrive fine last week in NZ. Update Durafly spitfire as EMS to NZ only.. forget NZ Postal for the air parcel Postal option & I'll EMS order one before I miss out again...and again- thanks slatzz

Jason, NZ Post max International parcel size shows 1.05m off the NZPOST calculator page, same as Malaysia. If Malaysia is the same as NZ on size, should be able to update nz ordering restriction too..? chewy makes a good point on volmetric measure, and designing the packing/box to fit under size limitation will give you guys more sales!

Jason, thanks for your help. I just received the boax after having it sit in Customs for 4 days. EMS is fsat Customs is slow. The package total weight is 6.3kG (with some other stuff) and you charged me for 6Kg only! Thanks. I don't think people should complain that much about the postage cost. I also wish Jason fix up the package for the Airbus so that I can buy it too!

Why does it need flaps?? it lands like a foam trainer? or are you just going scale crazy.. just get your hot knife out or balsa up some split flaps if your inclined with a couple of servos..dont make it heavy now.

Love this Spit. Toss the spinner and get a 3 inch aluminum backed spinner such as Great Planes. Stock spinner will not balance. Make sure the coller between shaft and prop is tight for smooth running and balance the prop. I upgraded the elevator servo for insurance. Other servos seem to be pretty good.. This spit is very pitch sensitive. Keep elevator to less than 1/2 inch up and down. I think recommended balance point makes it a bit tail heavy which contributes to pitch sensitivity. I used a 4s 2250 bat plus 1.5 ounce in front of battery compartment. BE prepared for right rudder input on take off.

Be careful with the 4 cell batteries. Mine amped out to 73Amps with a 4s 3000ma 40C battery I had an 11x5 prop. I have changed to a 10x5 prop. Flys great, but the spinner is trash. So are the retract servos. Both failed by the 3rd landing and they were decent landings. Also they were not reversed, so 1 went up while the other went down. How does something like that get missed. Finally, a lot of screws were not tight. Go over it with a great deal of care.

Potential purchasers: When you order this plane, do yourself a favor to avoid another wait by adding the following items to your order: 1) 60 amp ESC w/switched BEC capabilty, 2) 2650ma Battery,3)male XT60 connector or 4mm banana connector from LiPo to ESC,4) Bullet connectors for motor connection to ESC,5) a good spinner,6)the Turnigy 3 chan servo regulator. This last item is necessary as one landing gear leg will open and the other will close if you just use a 'Y' connector. This servo regulator is dirt cheap for what it does and allows you to control the up AND down speed of the gear as well as the ability to reverse the actio on one leg. Just use the 'in' chan to connect to the rx and chans 1 and 3 for the gear with chan 3 set to 'reverse'. You will not need a 'Y' connecting harness but you will need the next item 7)gat a package of JR style female connecor extension leads with one end open(just wire). You will need to make a female-female connector by soldering the matching [color] wires. This will allow you to connect the regulator to thr rx. These items, as well as the obvious Tx and Rx are required to get the plane operational.
flying dinosaur
(34%)
Correction, you will need what HK has listed as JR male/(wire end) lead servo extension. Also before you assemble the wings to the fuselage, you'll have to dig some foam away from the area of the wing that prevents the aileron servos from achieving full travel, possibly the same for the retract servos as well.
