Hi, there are a few posts around regarding this, i've found (excuse me if you've heard this b4; i know i've written elsewhere) that mounting these great little cameras (plug) with any type of spinning blade or prop in its recordable view will cause noise or lines on the screen in the area of what ever is spinning.. i have found the cam view from the drivers seat on a large yak with bigger motor; rpm wise, seemed to have less noise than a smaller foamie with the cam on the front wheel looking through the prop(smaller different pitch)..
the best place i have put cams on my foame is under the left or right wing on a wheel strut.. i get a little noise from prop but only on one side.. Gota counter weight the plane too unless your into extreme flying..
I have noticed on the heli's anywhere on the heli with a clear view forward is great except for the tail.. cams facing back is a good view too but you get tail rotor noise or blur.. cams on the tail of the heli facing forward I rekon are a really good vantage point but i've found that vibration is the killer here on a 500 size anyway but mabe a carbon fiber tail boom as opposed to alli will be better for this, nothing is impossible just experiment..
I'm stil using the original card that came with the cameras I get the odd dropped frame but there is no way that i would buy a more expensive card to run in these (for me anyway) they serve me well as they are dime a doz
most higher performance cameras and particularly ones with adjustable settings; can produce good images through props , I believe this is to do with shutter speeds
hope this helps have fun..

I had the cam mounted on the bottom of the fuse at the CG, looking down. I then mounted it all the way aft on the bottom. The video appeared to be wavy, running top to bottom thru-out the entire pic. When mounted on a different plane looking forward thru the prop, there were black lines running horizontally(noise?) and the pic had a wavy appearance to it. I tried the cam on a different plane, different motor. I had the same results but, a lot less noticeable.

Yep facing down can appear chaotic and hard to watch; its ok to capture down shots though at low res.. also if you have a camera facing forward and one facing down you can watch them both back at the same time in sync for an entertaining perspective, i've found camera angle means a lot when it comes to watching footage back and enjoying it.. try 45-70 degrees angle down from between or around the front landing gear..

Those 'black lines' are when the frame rate of the camera synchonises with the propeller (where it be the same blade or the other it doesnt matter); its just capturing the blade repetitively at the same location and hence appearing as a solid mass on the screen.
Generally you will always get this if your camera looks through the propeller.
Also, when you say wavy - do you mean the video integrity iteself? or the way its mounted on the plane and associated with your flying style?

i think he means like this (simple representation)
_____________________ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ---------------------------------- where the picture is Skewed from side to side, moving. it must be some noise generating it, Try unmounting you cam -turn on the plane, go 4 meters away, start recording (at the plane), and move gradually closer. This will show what happens, and if it is radio noise getting in the cam. |

Just been going through footage and i've found the heli tail cam vid is the only one wavy like that.. vibration I would say in my case.. also yesterday I shot 43 minutes of video at 31 frames per second and 720 x 480 on a standard card, it took up 1.33 gig so the card was not full.. I have a feeling this is something to do with the mode button in record mode so further testing is on the cards.. |

Clipped from another forum:
"It happens because the CMOS sensor scans the frame progressively as it scans the camera changes position due to high frequency vibes and produces wavy footage.
A CCD camera scans the whole frame at once, so you won't get wavy footage, but your best bet is to balance the heli perfectly and dampen your mount." |
