yes, headplay and fatshark are great goggles, but they are so expensive... How exactly does the monitor setup work out??? Does Hobbyking have a setup for the monitor way of doing it? Im sure using a monitor would be fun too, especially if a whole group wanted to view the flying... Goggles are great for feeling as if you are in the plane though. I love it!

I also vote for Hobby King stocking a cheaper set of goggles.

You will be using NTSC Eric. It is the standard in the US. Pal is the system used in Europe and most other countries. IIRC, it is the scanning systems and has to do with the number of scan lines to make up a TV display. A PAL system displays more scan lines which results in a better TV picture. NTSC isn't as good.
Been 40 years since I thought about it, so someone else should be able to provide a better description.

I can only remember half of what I say.... I used to walk on water 'til I found out it was more fun sitting in the boat drinking beer Ron |

thats right on the money Mr. Ron. Pal has more VERTICAL lines. The picture is a bit sharper like when viewing shadow borders and they get fuzzy. But there are many pluses with NTSC and that is why we are still lucky to be using it. If you are in the U.S. make sure you buy the NTSC or they will Not work.
I love my monitor set up. I have a 4x10" wide rear view mirror monitor from a stereo shop online. It was only about $60 and is crisp, small and lite and can be mounted to a hat if immersion is desired. Took off the glass screen protector and there is absolutely no glare now.

Monitors and tv's work fine.. large HD plas and lcd's display a full screen image at an acceptable resolution too even with a 420 line camera.. they're very easy to setup although a little more restricting than glasses tho if you want to use for flying and have to go out to do it.. most video recievers avaliable will plug directly into a tv using yellow RCA video out from the video reciever to yellow RCA in on your tv; AV1 or AV2 or whatever. Pc/laptop also is great and produces a good picture through an easy cap connection or video in, especially with HD screen, PC and particually laptop connection has added advantages over straight monitor connection including being able to run larger monitors from a computers hdmi or tv/video out as well as accessing features avaliable with some eagle tree components such as eagle eyes and of course portability..
The glasses coming will definitly be worth looking at for purchase providing they have a decent res, you'l find there are other factors aside from resolution to consider with glasses also, always view specs and compare before purchase, personally I wouldn't bother with 640x480 and even 800x600 would take some arm twisting to purchase though i'm sure HK would have sourced a good product for a great price for us

One of the big issues is glare from the sun and inparticular reflected glare from behind you. This applies to goggles and monitors. So some time may have to be spent building a geek box for the monitor or modding the goggles to reduce light. I have seen recently a very low glare 15" TV but unfortunately it was 240v.
I have just purchased a set of EVG920E goggles and they are great, come with all sorts of connectors and importantly a soft rubber eye shield. Must have that! Monitors certainly give a crisper picture and I haven't given up on them and have just got a 12" TFT display to try out. For portability goggles are good but their are some great examples on rcgroups of portable groundstations using monitors.
The other issue is what happens when you get static in the video? Some goggles and monitors go to a blue or black screen for a few seconds or for a while! This can be overcome by running the goggles/monitor from the AVI out of a recorder which is what I do but, be careful as some recorders will stop recording if there is too much static in the video and then you're in deep sh*t as you loose your video feed!

Any time not spent fly'n, break'n and fix'n is time wasted!

Their was a joke in the trade that the inferior NTSC system stood for Never The Same Colour ( always with a U)
But to get back to the point at the start of the tread it would be great if HK sold a starter kit of all items for those you want to try FPV out but are no experts with video gear.
