I think Eric is asking for an explanation of exactly how the tracking system works, not links to to the the products.

Yah. It seams like it would be really expensive to make a tracker. Does it use GPS, telemetry, Smurfs ?

There is a GPS Receiver in the plane. It sends the position to the ground station. The ground station "knows" its position and therefor can point the antenna at the plane.

It is encoded into the video signa. That is also an issue. If video signal is lost tracking stops

900MHz is no good - it's illegal

1.2GHz is no good - it's illegal and you'll get second-harmonic issues (1.2GHz x 2 = 2.4GHz) with your RC gear.

2.4GHz is no good, it'll swamp (desensitize) your RC receiver

5.8GHz is an ISM band that you can use in Australia -- so that's what you'd be advised to use.

I'm reviewing some 200mW 5.8GHz video gear next week.
