I'm curious if this would hurt the charger.

iCharger 208B (Input voltage range: 4.5-32.0VDC)
+
42v 27a power supply
=
???

Why?
I have been looking to do another computer power supply conversion and discovered the cheap and plentiful 1000w+ redundant server power supplies on eBay. Might as well build a beast. ExclamationNukeLOL

Yes it will.
Don't go crazy. Go pick up a computer power supply rated 200-250 watts about max rated for the charged and that is all you need. It will be cheaper and heck of a lot quieter.
It will not charge any faster or slower. Don't go above specifications if you want it to last.

Ok I was pretty sure it would hurt the charger too but I knew it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thumbs Up

Kind of a bummer though because I can find some 1300w power supplies for $20(usd) shipped! I think I saw a few that supplied 24v, that will probably be what Ill get. Or an 18v supply.

I think the iCharger 208b needs 18+ volts to run at max power. That new Turnigy charger might need the same.

Opt for the 18V supply unless you're going to be charging >6S Life packs. The difference between the power input (32V 5A=100 watts if charging a 12V pack at 5A vs 18V 5A=30 watts dissipated within the charger). And I know you can't hold a 100W light bulb in your hand.
Remember, heat kills electronics. Only use as much input voltage as needed to get the job done.

$20?? Shipping alone here would be $15? You have a link?
There are always ways to put regulators on to only let 18V to 24V out of it if they are that cheap.

Let me find it.

Edit: The one that was $19 shipped is gone but I'm sifting through to find some other good ones.

(I dunno if these guys ship to Canada)

There are a ton of them. Just search for "Server Power Supply"
I guess once they reach a certain age they get retired.

Thanks for the info guys.
All of my packs are lipo 5000mAh or bigger and I don't plan on down sizing. Most of my packs are 2s and 3s but I'm eyeballing some new toys that will be able to use some big 6s 40c packs.
I charge in series when I can.

So if I get a charger that can get the packs charged quick I better have a power supply that can feed it.

Server power supplies are of a good quality, I used to have one.
But man, I'm telling you, I could not stand a jet engine sound in my house while charging the batteries. If you have a shed or a basement it is a different story but in the apartment I could hear it through the wall with door closed.
They still work out to be $35-$50 after shipping.
I'd just get this or similar when they are on sale. This thing is quieter then my charger... and the charge has fan off most of the time :)
I can now sleep a little or even watch TV without waking up the neighbors or using headsets.

Sorry, you are completely off the track with this statement. iCharger and all "good" chargers are Switching mode. Higher input voltage is always better for these, as the current on input side is lower, so they will run cooler and with higher efficiency, if you use input voltage as high as possible. But of course not higher than rated ;)

Yup. You're right Oliver. I didn't take into consideration that they were switchers.
