You need to use a bigger ESC more like 120 amp and more MHA battery more like 5000 40c
thats a big boat will take alot of power to get it up on plan check out this link with lots of info.http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/ good luck bigger is better in rc boats

get the biggest 5800 turnigy packs - they are great. And just like wizard122 said - 120A ESC is a minimum for this setup. Turnigy 120A Marine has built-in UBEC so you don't need another one. As for the charger.... buy this one: http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6792&Product_Name=iCharger_106B-plus_250W_6s_Balance/Charger
You won't be disappointed :-)

Hi Telles,
I'm new member here. First of all your boat is approximately 1 m. long for BL motor in your spec is too small and HI-KV. My suggestion is looking motor diameter not less than 5 cm. and KV is not more than 2000KV. (Both in-runner and out-runner). After finding the suitable motor looking at the motor spec for maximum power consumption in amp this is the main criteria for selecting the ESC (reserved +50% is suitable). Criteria of battery come from motor if the maximum of motor you choose is 60 amp. battery must supply more than 60 amp. (Calculation is mah x no. of C / 1000. eg. 5000 mah 20 C this pack can supply 100 amp. = 5000x20/100) For another equipment such as servo 13.Kg/cm is enough, UBEC if your ESC is included BEC no need to used external.
Regards,
The 3pk.

What is you Cat made of? It is very light for its size.

If it is balsa then you need to beef it up with fiber glass or some nice Hobby King Carbon fiber.

It is ok to make it stronger and heavier, then you can add more pwer and it will not break in a crash or roll over.

I would suggest a bigger motor after it is strong enough.

For your boat weight that motor is fine on 3S1P or 2P, the esc is fine if you take it slow and make short initial runs of 30 sceonds to 60  seconds long, check for heat.

At 650grams, or approx. 1.5 LBs, it is a light 1M boat.

I forgot, with your parts list you could start with a Graupner K40mm and MAYBE K42mm props.

Bottom ofm strut at bottom of sponson line, to start, move up or down to suit running attitude.

You need 120 or 180 amp esc... not 35 amps

The wrong attitude my friends! Wink
It is easy to tell someone new to the game to buy the hot stuff. Especially when someone else has to pay for it.
Telles said it was only for fun and not for competition! And he also said it was at Cat.
It is always a matter of what one will get out of a setup.

telles, your setup is not wrong, but the design and speed of the boat can alter the setup.
It is difficult with given information to say if you are wrong or not.

Chosen Tx is a super basic one and with others suggested motor and ESC I would prefer a safer Tx and Rx or at least install a fail safe.

Suggested motor has
Continuous Current: 55A
Max. Current: 65A  at 18v so it is less with 3S.
So I agree to that 35A ESC is not on the safe side, but it depends upon usage.

Good luck telles!
Best regards
Martin

With your big boat you need 8S or 10S batteries for one big brushless motor 1000kV

The Tx is ok, i use it for all of my boats (slow and fast). You normally don't need a failsafe for two reasons:
1. if the signal is lost the reciever stops the signal to the ESC and servos and they stop.
2. it is 2,4 GHz so no problems as with 40MHz and the range is good. after 100m you can't see your boat or where it is going.

For the Rest of the setup, i would say bigger everything, because boats need a lot of Amps at the start.
I would suggest you find yourself ar e forum for Electric Raceboats, like rumrunners in the US or rc-raceboats in Europe.
