Somebody knowledgeable please tell me roughly which brushless inrunners and also which outrunners with about 2000 to 3000Kv would be equivalent in power and torque to a Mabuci RS550 brushed motor ? Or is power and torque 2 separate questions ?

Yep, that's similar. Not sure what the PC/VC variation difference is. This is the standard RS550 ;

I'm designing an electric start for a 40cc gas (petrol) engine and these are used to start slightly smaller engines so it's my starting point.
I'm trying to find out what would be a similar Power & torque in a Brushless inrunner. I'll adjust my gear ratio to match the RPM of the brushless. Am I correct in saying that Brushless motors have lots more
power & torque for the same physical size & weight ?
So is there a (say) 25mm or 28mm brushless inrunner with this power/torque ?

I would say one some what close to this, motor

remember a brushless can not be hooked strait to a battery,it will have to have a pulsed dc power.with no prop the fan would help cool it.

Thanks airwave. Sure powered through an ESC.
Cooling won't be an issue. A starter only runs for 5 seconds or so.
At about 500W that looks much more powerful than the Mabuci RS550 ? Am I correct ? How do I compare the power ? How do I compare the torque ?

Do you think I'll find a 25mm Brushless inrunner (or smaller dia. than 28mm) with more power/torque than the brushed Mabuci RS550 ?

i take it you are looking for a ~100-150 watts??the problem with the smaller ones they are low pole count and this makes them high KV.
here is a link to the page Small
I don't know of any that are beafy to use as a starter drive, maybe a long shaft that you could place bearigs on both sides of the shaft and pionon gear.

ps the power is the load you can run a 500 watt at 100

this one is 24mm and 350 watts
24mm motor
all most 2 x the kv you asked about ~46,000 rpm at 12 volts

No I think I need more like 400W minimum.
Is 100-150W all that the Mabuci RS550 is good for ? Or where did those numbers (100-150W) come from ?
I don't know what this means 'ps the power is the load you can run a 500 watt at 100' (too many abbreviations maybe ?)
Yep PRODUCT ID: S2445-3890 S2445-3890 Brushless Inrunner (3890kv)is worth a try with lots more gearing.

1) yes the rs550 is a 100 watt motor,it will stall at 5596 g/cm@85 amps
2)a free runing motor will not make power, you can load a 500 watt to 100,200,300 ECT watts up to 500 max it may put out more for a short burst.if 300 watts is all that is needed to start the motor than it will make only 300 watts. the PC/VC is voltage spect on the rs550.
3)if you cick on the "motor type" link in the top right corner you will seee a red PDF logo it will open a full size page for the motors.

Thanks airwave.
You need to pitch lower for me please.
What is ECT watts ?
Re your 3) - Top right corner of where please ? This page ? - can't find it. The Hobby King motor pages ? - can't find it there either. There's one "motor type" link in your 24 Aug message on this page for the RS550 details. Is that what you mean ?
I still haven't worked out what you're telling me when you said "I don't know what this means 'ps the power is the load you can run a 500 watt at 100'". Are you saying that the power is dependent on the load ? but I still don't understand.
Pretend that I'm 8 years old & explain it please.
