hello,

thought i would post a couple of pics of the mods i completed on my 9x radio;

my aim was basic/budget fpv ($100) - went over with the misc stuff - switch / low bat. buzzer / angled video connector (didnt need it but it worked better)

the fact that i fried the camera as well put me over another $20 for a replacement via ebay .. and another week delay =[

200mw fpv kit $60
4.3" lcd           $20
camera           $15
battery           $5
misc                 $5
2nd camera    $20
----------------
total       $125

attached a screen - its some reverse-cam screen with a res. like 400 x 272 or something really quite low - even so the picture seems pretty clear - ill be avoiding any sort of low light flights cos i very much doubt ill be able to see a thing

you can sort of see the osd buttons for the screen - only basic options of course but better than nothing (+ they are out of the way) - ive also filed down part of the socket (for the ball) so the screen is viewable while radio is held in front of me normally

with lots of hot glue - it wasnt exactly loose but the glue just holds it in place more securely. the lcd cables also feed through the mount arm (came with the screen) and through a hole i added to the ball

and the fpv rx - velcro'd to the radio module - you can also see the power cable feeds into what was the trainer port

both powered by the battery (bat. pos -> switch -> splitter & bat. neg -> splitter)

i should probably re-do the inner connector on the video-in plug as its a mess!

with a switch to turn them on/off if needbe

was going to put the video-in connector in the charge port at the side but thats where the bottom of my palm rests while holding the radio so i moved it to the back with a new hole for it

ive tested the video-in using the tv-out of a nokia n95 - that works nicely

once my replacement cam arrives then i can actually get to testing (and using) the fpv tx/rx - might have to change how its mounted as the aerials are quite close but then thats why i only used a bit of velcro instead of liberal amounts of hot glue!

this is my second attempt at modding the 9x (first was usb programmer + er9x firmware - you can see the soldered cable in one of the pics) and my first foray into fpv

thanks for looking!

p.s. my apologies if this is not the right forum to post this in - i thought about blogs forum but this seemed more appropriate?

an update;

so after getting the replacement cam (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250851785094?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648) i ended up with almost 0 range on the vtx/vrx anyway

eventually after much searching i saw a mentioned in a random forum post about mis-matched channels (in the vtx & vrx) causing the issue AND mis-matched manuals
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1611497

the actual channel jumper settings/layouts - i just copied the jumper settings shown in the attached images here
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20811624&postcount=4005

once that was fixed then i came across yet another issue - interference from the transmitter (the 9x) due to the one battery powering 9x / screen / vrx

fixed that by attaching a battery on the back of the 9x and feeding the wire into it and hooking it up to the wiring i already had

finally got around to mounting the gear onto the heli

just noticed the warranty code is visible but ive already attached it to my account & im too lazy to photoshop & its probably not an issue? meh!

also removed the vtx battery i was going to use and just hooked that into the main battery - no interference in the video or 9x

and i also ended up just buying a set of 1x cloverleaf and 1x skew planar aerials from here http://www.multiwiicopter.com/products/fpv-5-8ghz-tx-rx-set-skew-planar-4-and-3-blade-cloverleaf-combo-video-antenna (USD $27) so i blew the budget entirely (total was $55 with express delivery so 50% of my initial budget)
