Took a new plane out today with a new 9x radio with the standard flysky system that comes with the 9x and had severe range issues resulting in a crash :<

After a little digging around it appears that someone at the factory maybe forgot to solder the antenna to reciever!

See image:

Hobbyking please take this person out the back and give them a severe flogging

Everyone else, check your chinese crap at the component level before you fly.

Nice job documenting the issue. Thanks.

It's much better to show a problem and ask for a reasonable solution as you have (well, maybe not flogging), than to just bitch as some folks do.

Let's just have fun!

ouch. Try to do a ground test as it is, after solder the wire and do ground test again and see if any difference.
For safety, you always suppose to do ground test before trying new radio.
Too bad about the bad soldering job though.

The wire wasn't sticking up like that when I checked it, but it wasn't soldered down either, just sitting there really. This was the worst possible scenario because I did ground test it at about 300m and it was flawless, however I suspect once the motor spooled up and casused some vibrations the wire which was prob touching the solder pad give an intermittent connection and caused the lockouts.

Oh well could have been worse, should have tested it again with that wire sitting up - good tip thanks. Will do another ground test now it's soldered down and hope for the best.

BTW hobbyking please don't flog anyone, I love the Chinese . ;)

I don't use the rx. I use frsky. Anyway thanks for your warning. I will open my rx when I have time and see if the antenna is well soldered. I'm sorry for your crash.

my new 9x v2 Tx decided to switch off while i was testing the new 4 blade rotor head on HK450TT this afternoon.
resulted in sudden spool up of the rotor and a size 10 boot standing on the tail of the heli to stop it floating away.
now have to replace all the TT cogs.. luckily i was testing before it went in the agusta fuselage.

I hot glue the antenna of ALL my receivers as soon as they arrive at home, because, sometimes, with the movements, the central wire can be disconnected.
With my tip, it cannot! Simple discreet and easy to do!
Have fun,
Pierre

PS: i use mostly HK and Corona receivers
