Topic: Battery Recommendation QuestionPosted: 27/Jul/2012 at 5:37am |

I have a SkyClimber Glider that came with an 11.1v, 1800mAh 20c battery. I'm looking to increase the time I can run the electric motor. What would be the recommendation? I assume I need to keep the volts the same but when I look to increase the amperage the volts go up also which I assume is not good. Thoughts? What does the 20c mean?

So you want to increase the mAh and keep the volts at 11.1v. 1800mAh is the amount of current you can draw to drain the battery in 1 hour. 20c is the like a multiplier by how much you can drain at maximum. So 20c*1800mAh=36A. So you can draw a maximum of 36 amperes out of the battery at a given moment. So if your motor draws 20A, you can run your motor for 5.4 minutes until you drain your battery ((1800capacity/20000draw)*60min). So if you get a 2000mAh battery with a motor drawing 20A, you could run it for 6 minutes till the battery was drained. However flight time would be less than that cause you never want to completely drain the battery.
Voltage and Amps are separate things so increasing one doesnt affect the other. The Wattage on the other hand is Volts x Amps and you dont want to exceed the wattage, voltage, or amps of the motor. Edited by Madscientist - 27/Jul/2012 at 9:57am |

if you can fit a2000 or 2200 40c that will hell as you will use less power for the same power used

Sunfishtom, I have a skyclimber, nice plane but the largest battery you can get in it without problems would be a 2200 mah 3S. Also, don't waste your money on a high discharge battery a Turnigy of Zippy 25C will do fine in the stock setup. |
