Are you saying that you should put the module in place and then solder to the pins that come into it? I am interested, how did you deal with the 3 way switch, the bind/led board and the aerial?

Sounds overly complicated. And of no use if a buyer only has the 9X without a module. Will also prevent the rear case being removed if need be for cleaning/lubrication in the future due to the aerial wire length.
Not a recommended way to fit a hack unit. |

I have some helicopters. I crash less than I used to. I now have some fixed wing aircraft. I now crash a little more again! I also have Internet Explorer and can actually edit my signature ...

That's how I did it.. I tried it inside first but thought it might foul the sticks...

JST connectors enable complete removal of the back.. Some people have no imagination... I've also resurrected a Hitec Flash 5 with this mod... Edited by Keeth - 27/Jul/2012 at 4:29pm |

Nice job there. Again, overly complex for a newbie to modifications, and there is the introduction of additional joints/connections in your RF system.
One thing you MUST check in time is that JST connector to the LED and 3-way - any corrosion on that could appear eventually, particularly with damp conditions like over here in the UK, must be absolutely eliminated or you could possibly get intermittent radio problems. Also, your thoughts on the hack fouling anything inside is unfounded as there is an acre of space between the sticks. |

So it's still damp over there is it... I remember those minus zero mornings getting in my truck with no heater... Left there over thirty years ago for this more tolerable climate... Actually it did foul my first attempt.. It was one of the wires not the actual unit... And since I put the ERSKY9x board in with the DIN to USB connector, Rotary Encoder and the speaker it's getting even more crowded... Just hope I got room for the next mod now... Blue Tooth Module. |

Yup. Have had all that inside mine for a good month or so now. Still plenty of room inside for the hack unit - I did remove the spring plates though - no need for those now. lol!
I changed the knob on the encoder as well, as the supplied one was damned ugly! LOL!!!! Really makes it one cracking transmitter - and once they have the capability to write to the SD card via BT or USB ... even better as it could then data log from the telemetry. The BT module fits fine - I have mine almost in the place of where a SM one would have fitted - I shortened down the cables to make things a little tidier, but there is still plenty of room kicking about. Hot glue comes in handy for routing wires and pinning them in place all in safe locations. Incidentally, did you/do you have any problems with your SD card holder not initialising? Quite a few - me included - have had to resolder all of its contacts. In my case, I ended up replacing it altogether to stop the problem. There was also a correction done in R93, but now its R95 it can even 'speak' the name of the model selected! All good stuff and getting better and better each time there is a new software flash release. Edited by WTWUK - 27/Jul/2012 at 9:38pm |

Never had that prob with the SD holder... Could not get it to work for a few days though... Then I made the 'voice' sub directory and it worked flawless straight away... Even warns me of a low Tx battery now... Must admit the inactivity alarm made me jump first time it went off... Think I got r96 in mine..? Reserved a few safety switches but not set them up yet.. Gonna wait for it to get a bit more organized and the voice files are more organized as well...
Yes, it's exciting times for us tinkerers.... Edited by Keeth - 27/Jul/2012 at 10:19pm |

Indeed - mine bursts into life with 'Gooooood Morrrrnnnniiiiiin Vietnaaaaaaaaaaammmm!!!' heh heh
If the likes of Rob etc can get it so that the sound files can be done via the USB or BT, that will make the sound system absolutely top notch and the card can stay in the TX. I have a 16GB in mine - cannot see that getting filled up! You may find your card holder begins to play up after a few insert/removal cycles of the card - and then you might find no sounds at all - but it is relatively easy to fix. Also there can be Disk IO errors generated on the SD Card status screen - happens on mine sometimes, but not always. |

Be good when they get the Sky board Wiki updated.. Can get a bit confusing sorting between Er9x and Sky...
I cut the slot in my case and use tweezers to get the card in and out.. BT would be great for SD card transfers... Can you imagine what would become available...? |
