why are you plugging it into the transmitter?

I assume you mean rx = receiver.

If it shuts down, probably it is draining too much power from the bec.

How many amps are your esc's bec supplying ?

Make sure the connectors on your FM are correct
if reversed you'll have a short circuit loading the 5 volts
and most probably damage the FM

Shouldn't be an issue, as the polarities are not wired to be directly reversed, assuming you're tapping power from the receiver.

More likely the bec isn't able to deliver the amps required by FM and the servos so everything shuts down.

That is on the RX end. On the 5 pin connector that goes to
the FM control box is different no protection there, pug it the wrong way
and you will have a short circuit. No key on connectors and can go inn either way.
You have to fallow the color coding on the FM control box.

If you do that there is no need to use an additional tail gyro - the FM covers all three axes.

Best of luck with that. You would have been better advised to have gone for a 450 as there is not a lot or room to fit FM in a 250. The optical sensor is the awkward bit - it is very close to the ground when fitted underneath.
Also the 250 is inherantly less stable than a 450 and FM is real difficult to set up for the 250. I spent a good two days fiddling with it on a 250 to get it 'acceptable'. On a 450 it took an hour and a half and it worked great.

I brought myself a HK500GT at the same time WTWUK..I was hoping to set it up in a couple of months for a FPV camera heli.
from what your saying I might have to step up to the big bird first.
I have heard that the bigger heli's are more stable.
