Hey guys,

I'm having a problem with my quadcopter. I'm new to the hobby and this is my first build. I've been reading tons of posts and build logs. But the problem I'm having now, I can't explain nor solve it on my own. So I ask the experts here for some help ;-)..

Everything is set up with the kk board. Correct xcopter firmware flashed, correct motors spool up, gyro's are doing there job. The problem I'm having, is that Motor4 (back right) is reving up much faster then the rest. When i try to fly it's totally out of ballance.

I did some troubleshooting on my own and this is what i found.

First I tried reflashing the firmware without result.
When I switch the connection of M3 and M4, then M3 spools up. So its not the esc and motor. It's the M4 output of the kk board. I tried recalibrating the esc limits with the M3 and M4 switched as well to see if the M4 channel might be calibrated incorrect because of something.
None of this helped.. The one motor still spools up faster than the rest.

Can I fix this my self or is there something wrong with my board? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Its possible you need to do another "group calibration" of the ESCs.

When I did my first calibration using throttle & beeps etc I still had a couple of motors that did not start together with the others and were running faster than the other two.
I went through the procedure a second time and it all worked out right that time.

I'm afraid it didn't work. Did the group calibration 5 times but still nothing.
I do remember that the motors didn't start at the same time when i first installed the board.
2 motors started spinning a fraction of a second earlier than the other 2.
This was fixed using the group calibration. Now all 4 motors start at the same time, but the 4th is reving up faster.

Stil thanks for the tip john ;-)

Maybe the other three are slow... Are the bearings ok?.. If the motor has a threaded shaft and you tighten your props directly against the motor you can pull the shaft up and make it tight... Use a nut under the prop to lock onto... GL.

Are you sure that your Tx isn't providing some forward pitch input? Unless you have a servo available for testing, try swapping roll and pitch inputs from the Rx and see if the problem moves to another output. Make sure the Tx is in airplane mode without any mixing enabled.

@Keeth: They don't have a threaded shaft. I'm using a propsaver to mount the prop. But I assume it's not the motor. As I said. When I switch motors 3 and 4 (for testing, not flying), the reving up happens on the other motor. And the motor where the problem was first, revs normal.

@flarssen: I'm flying X configuration. If that would be the case, wouldn't both back motors rev up faster? Or both right motors? Either way. As far as I understand it, for X, a single input is converted into a 2 motor output. I'm going to try with a servo and see if there is something strange going on.

Yes, sorry, you said back right motor so I should have realized that.
This is a mystery. Have you tried any of the KK firmwares?

This is a mystery. Which firmware version do you use?

It's been a couple of days, but i had some time to fiddle some more. Switched all the motors, reflashed, recalibrated,.. As you suggested, I tried flashing an other firmware. I've read that it helped some guy with similar problems.

I'm using the lazyzero tool and tried flasing different versions of XXcontroller firmware. Diff versions by both Kim Minsoo and Mike Barton. But I don't get anything out of them. My esc keep beeping. No arming, calibrating, stick centering or anything. I can't seem to find alot of documentation about what it can be. Maybe a low-volt alarm on the esc, but it doesn't sound with the kuk firmware. I've also tried reversing the throttle and changing the trims on it but no go.

I haven't really tried a +config, because I would have to remount my board.

Really appreciate the help. I'm all for learning on my own. If I solve something on my own I won't make the same mistake again. But I'm stuck at the moment.

Bjorn

If the ESC's keeps beeping, it often means that there is no signal detected. There is usually no low voltage alarm. Which ESC are you using?
You could always try the +, just to see if you still have the same problem.
