Hi everyone!
A while ago I became interested in building my own quadcopter. I've been doing some research about the stuff I need to order, and I think I've come up with a descent list of materials. But as I'm completely new to quadcopter building (or even new to RC controlled devices), I'd love to get some feedback about my configuration from some more experienced guys like you. As I didn't had an idea if I wanted a lift quadcopter, of a fast one, I've gone for an average one that will do for fast flying and lifting some camera's.

So do you think anything is missing from this list to build an entire quad? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Kind regards Edited by aproxx - 19/May/2012 at 6:25pm |

ok, things i noticed: (from bottom up)
dont need 3 lots of servo leads, its a pack of 10 after all this battery strap is better, it has plastic pull back for tighter fit id prob get 3 or 4 packs of the polymax connectors what where you going to do with the XT60's ? pwr distro ? why not by the board available... you may want to consider the stock availability of your 9x, how long you want to be waiting ... maybe 4 eva ;)? id also be getting 8 and 9 inch prop sets, so you have some different ones to play around with, particularly while learning, smaller is faster to respond why that motor ? (coz its the cheapest?) i dont think it'd be very good, maybe look at a NTM or Turnigy Aerodrive 700-1000kv over all not too bad though, im dont have alot of experience with motors though , maybe some other user will make some suggestions as well or you can look at what hk suggest with the frame the have |

-About the servo leads, that's my fault I guess. I must have put up the wrong number on the post. ;) -I'll sure put some more polymax connectors on my list too, and cut out the XT60's. -The 9x might not be in stock, but I'm hoping it will come back soon. I'm planning on buying the entire package between this and a month so I can wait a little longer. -I had this motor in mind as it's one of the cheapest yes. But even while it's so cheap, it still gets good reviews. But to be sure I'll take a look around for other options. And with a new engine, I'll have a look at some other props too. Thanks! |

yeah i was thinking about the motor thing too, and it does get alot of good reviews and is cheap, so id say go with it but get one in the 700-1000kv range
i doubt you,ll get a 9x at all, but good luck. they arent really doing anymore, awaiting the 9xr model later in the year... see what more you can find out about it though |

Hi,
The 2822 are fine. I started with the NX 540 lovely motors but the mounting arrangement is crap and in a prang distorts , even if you use zip ties you will have problems. Tried the KDA 20-50 their are really good but when your starting if your like me, only plane experience, you bite the dust a lot. My recommendation is 2822 motors, lots of props, and zip tie the motors on. Jim |

Alright! Thanks everyone for the information. After some research I think I'll stick to the original motors. They seem to get quite good reviews, and are very cheap.
For my frame I'm thinking about building one on my own. The dimensions are based on the original frame, but I hope to reduce some weight building one on my own. Also, I'll get myself a few different propellers, just to play arround and look for myself what the best setup will be. As for the Rx/Tx, I think I'll order the Turnigy 9x one. It's on backorder for now, but I hope it will be in stock between this and a month! Otherwise I'll just look out for another one. One last thing I'm not sure of: The ESC will do the job for the 28-22 motors right? I don't want to end up buying the wrong ones.. ;) So this is what my final order will look like I guess! Frame: Self built frame 1x Turnigy TG9e 9g / 1.5kg / 0.10sec Eco Micro Servo Controller and programmer: 1x HobbyKing Multi-Rotor Control Board V3.0 (Atmega328 PA) 1x USBasp AVR Programming Device for ATMEL proccessors Motors, propellers, ESC and battery 3x ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 45C 5x FC 28-22 Brushless Outrunner 1200kv 5x HobbyKing Red Brick 25A ESC 1x Slow Fly Electric Prop 9047 SF (4 pc - Green) 1x Slow Fly Electric Prop 9047 SF (4 pc - Green) COUNTER 1x 1047SF Combo (1047SF & R1047SF) (3 Standard & 3 Counter Rotating Per Bag) 1x Slow Fly Electric Prop 8045 SF (4 pc - Green) 1x Slow Fly Electric Prop 8045 SF (4 pc - Green) COUNTER Rx/Tx, battery and charger: 1x Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver (Mode 2) (v2 Firmware) 1x ZIPPY Flightmax 2650mAh Transmitter Pack (Futaba/JR) 1x Hobbyking DC-4S Balance Charger & Cell Checker 30w 2s~4s Others: 1x TURNIGY 3~8S Voltage Detector 1x Nylon XT60 Connectors Male/Female (5 pairs) GENUINE 2x PolyMax 3.5mm Gold Connectors 10 PAIRS (20PC) 3x Turnigy 4mm Heat Shrink Tube - RED (1mtr) 3x Turnigy 4mm Heat Shrink Tube - BLACK (1mtr) 1x Battery Strap (5pcs/bag) 3x 10CM Male to Male Servo Lead (JR) 26AWG (10pcs/set) Edited by aproxx - 26/May/2012 at 11:15pm |

Dunno about red brick ESCs.
Turnigy Plush have turned out to be the most trouble free ESCs for using with quad boards - seem to calibrate better for reliable synchronised starting. |
