Krimbu, sorry fat fingers and bad english(not my best subject)
.i will try and list it
1)the charger can put out 50 watts, nothing is 100% so 60 watts should do well. 2)volts X AMPS= watts as long as you stay over 12 volts and less than 18 you are good(I like at least 13 volts) 3) the charger can discharge 5 watts max so it can not discharge at 2.2 amps or 1C for you.even if you set it for 1 amp(max setting) it will not do it not at 3 cell this would be greater than 5 watts. 4) the supply you get is up to you,I did not read to reveiws on this one but posted a link for the type you would need for your charger. Not to recomend you buy this one.the one i use is this type but at 350 watts meanwell I would recomend it 5) a computer power supply can be used it would have to be a AT type(one that comes on and off with switch)an old printer supply or other type that puts out 12-18DC volts and an amprage that would be grater than 60 watts. PS one i have meanwell 350 (i got it for $34 and free shipping) Edited by airwave - 30/May/2012 at 4:00am |

Thanks a lot airwave.
Sorry, I didn't mean any offense, and it's absolutely not your fault. It's me who is not knowledgeable in this field :-) I forgot everything I learnt at high school about electrcity (even though I was very very good at it). I will try to find a power supply like you said. just one more quetsion if I may... When charging/discharging the batteries in storage mode, should I connect both balance and charge connectors to the relevant ports in the charger? When I tried to discharge an almost full 2.2A battery yesterday, it was discharging so slowly that it didn't finish in more than 50 minutes... then I noticed that I forgot to connect the balance 4 pins plug. Since it was too late at night, I decided to cancel the activity, and discharge the batteries by flying the next day. I did it today and managed to do my first Bixler loops ! :-D |

I'll admit I don't always connect balance leads when discharging (No balancing on a discharge to storage),
However, the balance leads act as a safety, letting the charger halt if one cell mucks up. So ideally - Yes, connect both. Discharge usually takes nearly an hour - the charger has to turn all that energy into heat and give it time to dissapate. An iCharger can discharge back into the car battery or an external sink such as a string of lights, which makes it quicker. Edited by Such Is Life - 30/May/2012 at 9:28pm |

I took no offense.did not make D- because it was my best subject
the slow discharge is the part about 5 watts I/E 5 watts/12.6(full charge on 3 cell)would only be ~.4 amps.OR around 1/5C this would take 5HR+ to get rid of the energy in a 2.2 ma 3cell to about 90% used up.This is also why i say run it(even just setting there) to less than 3.7 volt then the charger could charge at 2.2 amps to storage.Yes it would be best to have then hooked up but for storage it is not as important as when you go for a full charge.lets say the battery volts are 3.9 ,3.5 ,3.6 over all you are ok for storage going for a full charge.you could see 3.9 4.2 4.3 the cell at 4.3 volts can be damaged from this charge cycle as for the power supply HK has others and there are cheaper options, the one i showed is for industral systems.the one i jumped on was a great deal i don't see this as much now.
