G'day All,
From Sydney, Australia. The monthly Saturday indoor flying night at the Menai sports centre is getting a bit slow, not enough pilots coming to fly. It has been suggested that people think that because the local sponsor, the HobbyKing store at Caringbah is closed down, the monthly flying night has stopped as well, This is not true!!!. The sports centre is happy to keep the indoor flying nights going, with the help of a few of the regular pilots. As indoor flying sites are rare it is within the interests of modelers in the southern suburbs of Sydney to keep the monthly get together going. So, please come and fly indoors at the Menai sports centre behind the Menai Marketplace Allison Crescent, Menai. There is plenty of parking, and an in-house café, a protected area for spectators and if you are so inclined RC cars are run upstairs the same night. When, the second Saturday every month at 6:00PM till 10:00PM, electric only, helicopters and fixed wing. The format is 3 by 10 minute slots helicopters, micro fixed wing then large fixed wing. The cost for the nights flying, which covers the rental of the stadium and insurance for the night is $15 per pilot, spectators are free. No limit on number or type of aircraft and as long as everyone uses their common sense when flying all will have fun. The next nights flying is Saturday the 9th of June, so any enquires email me. Many Thanks, Dave W. <iflylilplanes@optusnet.com.au> Edited by iflylilplanes - 14/May/2012 at 5:30pm |

Thanks for the update Dave, I couldn't find any info on it anywhere so it's good to hear that it's still running. What's the largest heli size you allow there?

Symowallo,
I'm not a heli pilot myself, and, from the looks of the largest heli's there the main rotor span is approximately 550mm to 600mm The room is a double basketball court, we did have a demo of extreme 3D heli aerobatics, it did not end well. Most of the aerobatic heli's are the flybarless micros and the others are contra and fixed pitch. We do have an addition to the nights flying, if the hall on the other side of the building is not being used the centre manager lets the heli guys have the room to themselves for an hour or two. Hope this helps, next flying night is Saturday July 14 at 18:00 hours. |

Thanks Dave,
I take it that there's flying again this Saturday 11/8 as well? With the Sydney weather being as windy as it is, that's good timing, if it's actually on... |

Thanks Dave.
Do they have power points for charging, or is it better to bring a 12V battery just in case? |

Yes, power is available , but, bring a power board if you have one. We have not had any problems as yet, but we are getting more flyers each month. One other thing, we have a buy swap and sell going, so if you have any thing you to let go of bring it along.

Thanks Dave for a good night. My son and I had fun there, despite my horror crash early on which was totally my fault!!! Well organised and I look forward to getting there again.

Thanks for coming, crashes happen, one of mine got shredded. Did I talk to you?, there are so many different people turn up each month, I was the big guy with the white hair and beard and glasses.
The sports center and I have been working over the last 3 months to get the numbers up, we came very close to losing the venue because of low attendance, now, with the numbers we've had coming over the last 3 months the Shire council has assured us the use of the hall for the next 12 months. We sometimes get the use of the second hall for the helicopters to fly in if it's not in use, pity it had been setup for a function the next day. Anyway, let your flying mates know we are still going, second Saturday every month 6PM to 10PM. Hope to see you again. |
