I don't tweet but a little bird told me that the 9x is to be replaced with an all new transmitter. The Turnigy 9X-R (What does the R stand for?)

I guess for those of us that have upgraded the firmware and modified their 9X to do all sorts of things. For example "Gruvin 9x" frSky telemetry interfacing as i have done, and Thus9x/ER9x. Will this new radio use a atmega chipset.

I ask this because one of the reasons the 9x was so popular was the way it could be modified. It effectivly has a cult following.

Just an idea, have you considered sending eval units to the gruvin development team and the ER9x teams?

HK, would you be kind enough to post some some pictures, share with us the specs and the hardware platforms employed.

Looking for to this btw

Interesting news. I don't envy them the difficult task of producing a better radio than the 9x.
I may be getting old but I refuse to grow up

The 9XR is designed and built completely in-house (my back pocket reminds me of this every day).
It will use the atmega chip and can be flashed with your existing customised software. In fact, it comes standard with a similar rom to one you have mentioned.

We wont be sending out eval units because we have done alot of testing in house already and its unfair to make customers wait for further evaluations.

Anthony.

Would it be possible to have the board sold as an upgrade instead of the complete transmitter for those of us who have an FRx already?

As a retired tech (worked on SM components) fault-finding, repairing and board changing is no problem for me (so long as I had a schematic and board layout, I'd tackle anything)

I'm not looking an eval unit, a freebie or anything else - just wondering if there will be an 'upgrade' (preferably a DIY one) option for the existing 9x rigs or will it be sold as a complte unit

How many channels Anthony, and will it hold genuine CE certification?

How many channels? The 9x has the capability for 16, channels. I have used the upper chanels as virtual mixes. Bit hard to explain.

No, I know what you mean. My 8FG has 4 virtual channels as well as the 14 real ones.

You can't get more than 8 real channels out of the 9x though, can you? I do like having every single servo on a separate channel on my models.

The ability to double up the rxs like a FASST system would be excellent.

Anthony, does this mean that technically the new 9XR is pin to pin compatible with the 9X board? Although I doubt it, will there be schematics available for those who like to tinker? Lastly, is the mounting holes the same to where the 9X were? I ask this as I'm currently developing a board for the 9X (based around a STM32F2 microcontroller) and I'm sure others would like the ability to use the Gruvin9X or ERSKY9X boards that are being released.
