Hey pilots... im getting ready to buy a few 6 cell lipos. Im building a Great Planes Extra 300S. So far i acquired a O.S. 5020 400kv motor using a 15x10e apc prop. Their test results say i will pull 60amps set up this way. They recommend an 80amp esc. I bought a cc ice 75amp esc.
Obviously I want quality. Ive used Turnigy lipos in the past. Zippy is cheaper. They both carry the flightmax name. Whats the difference and how do they compare? Im calculating a 20c battery as being sufficient... 20c x 5 (5000mah battery)=100 amps max output? Is this correct? Thanks much for the input! |

Turnigy lipos are heavier, unless it's nanotech.
Zippy lipos are always on the lighter side. But Turnigy has better and more consistent QC, but occasionally you do get lemons. For high powered applications, I would go for the turnigy. |

I've bought about 18 2200mAH 3S Zippys and Turnigys (half and half) -- no duds in any of them. I imagine (haven't actually tested so it might be a false impression) that the Zippys hold up a little better towards the end of the flight.

My personal preference is Zippy's, some guys at the field have had issues with Turnigy's puffing and I have had no issues.
My 2 cents worth. Cheers |
