Just received my Durafly Vampire. Re glueing parts for assembly,i.e fuselage, wings, booms, tailplane. As parts are pre-painted, is it necessary to locally remove paint before glueing ? if so how ? What type of paint is used in painting ?
I love the Vampire and this looks to be a nice model. - - Thanks |

it would be a good idea to remove any paint on the mating surfaces to be glued because you want the glue to stick foam to foam, not a layer of paint that easily peel off. just use a bit of sandpaper to remove paint (roughs up foam for better glue contact too).
As for the paint they use, I have no idea, sorry though if you only sand the surfaces to be glued, you shouldn't see any bare foam anyway... |

Epoxy would be your best choice. It will let you make sure pieces are straight before it dries, and it cures to slightly more flexible finish.
FOAMSAFE CA with accelerator will bond instantly, so if your pieces aren't in straight when they contact, too bad :) It cures to a more brittle finish, so it may break away on high flex/vibration joints |

Epoxy is my favorit glue for foam, but in the discussion thread
I read about this glue for u Aussies http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=25400 Tarzan's grip mega bond . Supermarket , hardware . Waterproof , fast . Foamy wings etc , hold 10mins , then dry enough to fly < 1hr . You will need to wipe glue whilst drying as it foams out . Can make a mess but you will work it out . Hope it helps |

Clear Foam Glue (Medium Cure) - Large 100ml http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=17535clear foam glue this is the best glue use as a contact glue (apply to one side push together seperate leave for 10 min rejoin firmly. epoxy is to rigid and brittle to messy and can be mixed wrong cy doesn't spread enough failing to take advantage of all the surface area available. hot glue softens in my car on the way to the feild lol HTH ps this glue is what the factories use to build ur RTF planes |
