a recent thread on RCG exposed that many in the ranks of the MAAA think they are the governing body. This is simply not the case as CASA is the sole governing body in this country.
What flogalot fails to understand is that most folk hold their own insurance through the house and contents insurance or AMAS. I fail to see the relevance of the MAAA and i am glad that AMAS was formed. The MAAA makes a profit of $400,000 a year and gives little back to its members. Very strange for a not for profit organisation. |

Every time I see something like this it just reinforces my decision to never join any 'club', I don't need a bunch of politics, stupid rules and grumpy folks to tell me where, what and how to fly, and I certainly wouldn't pay any club to do so. A little common sense and respect go a lot further than a bunch of obsolete regulations. I always fly away from people and usually on my own property, but if I didn't have this luxury I would still rather pay for damages and take accountability for my actions and equipment then join a club for some BS 'insurance'.
I wonder if the OP ever found his model... Edited by kev.keene - 22/Aug/2012 at 3:20am |

sorry fellas.i realise this thread is fairly old (ish) but having only just read it i feel i have to chime in with my opinion.
Drflogalot, you sir,are a first class twAt! and purely because of the way you spoke to the man asking for help for him and his young son,i sincerely hope, that from this day onwards, you crash every single model you lay you sticky little fingers on. good luck op,i hope you find your plane asap and put the smile back on your boys face. if you lived closer i would gladly donate one of my models to your boy. |

Thanks for your support.
We are back in the air having a blast and all models have name and address. Whilst we advertised locally, we never recovered the F18. Lesson learnt. |

Excuse me? That is utter bollocks. Even MAAA's own website disagrees with your ridiculous assersion. Please don't visit forums just to pounce on people who don't want to be part of your organisation and abuse them with your attitude. This is supposed to be a friendly place where we can enjoy our mutual hobby, not an offshoot of the Gestapo. Edited by klaw81 - 04/Sep/2012 at 11:26am |

Honestly, organisations are fairly pointless in RC. I mean, look nowdays at what you can do with HK and foamboards! You can spend some time and scratch build your own plane, and basically you can make what ever you want.
However, there are some people out there who just shouldn't have a Tx in their hands as they fly unsafely and endanger others. This thread is not the case, losing a plane due to your range is simply one of the things that can happen in RC. As for where to fly, any area can be used, it is that some areas are more suitable for different applications. I say this because you can have indoor 3D planes and MCPXs where as for turbines you need a very, very large space. Im not having a go at anyone, all I am saying is that RC is a hobby. People spend time and money on their hobbies because they ENJOY them, not to be governed and ordered by others. Im my situation, I have only just started flying CP helicopters and have built two HK450s, am currently building my 3rd, and also have 2 MCPXs. It gives me something to do instead of playing computer games, as well as the electronics and mechanical side of RC. That said, I don't want to go to a flying club for people to say to me "Buy Align or **** off..." I just want to progress at my own pace. Sorry if I have rambled on... |

Oh, as for your sons, tell them that this is an example of perhaps a grumpy old man who lives by the MAAA. Hobbies are ones freedom...

yet i don't have half that time to help someone out. |
