Hey how's it flying today? First I did some test that Ron & Sabrehawk mentioned in the
last blog. I moved the motor to the right just a little instead of straight, CG done in all directions, controll surfaces extremely flat. I flew at all different speeds 20%, 30% 50% 70% 100% throttel all resulting in the same f#%*ing thing
Lucky that I have some tall grass, a good motor mount setup, & a 5mm shaft or the cessna would be toast by now, if ya know what I mean.
She gets launched, then flies level & straight for 40 or 50 feet then terns left and nose dives and breaks the prop, even with me pulling all the way to the right on the stick.
Remember I have hand launched this bird 40 or 50 times with great success. I have been doing it that way out here for 5 Years with all kinds of planes etc. and I know how to do it by now.
As blackhander said the cessna flys like a pussy cat when it is indeed flying right!!!
She is a very low stress plane to fly at least she used to be. blackhander I totally agree
with you about the challange, when you get it right the joy you feel is a real natural high
but but at this point I'm in need for a major fix!!!
Hey to Jhon the blog is not letting me put pics for you right now but you can go to my
Youtube and see all the sides of it and/or everone who is kind enought to help me.
First, yes the weight has increased about 250g with new motor set up and the huge LED light system I put in it I goes into detail on this on my other blog in the Advanced battery Question under batteries & chargers .
Remember I flew it great 15 times or so with this setup I have now doing loops, rolls stalls stunts ect. putting all kinds of stress on that bird but it was all fine untill just one day it started again.
Remeber in my last blogs here I said, it started tipstalling with the stock out of the
box setup. I would usually just putt around and check out all the cool LEDs. It is as blackhander said the cessna is a pussy cat
I also wanted to show my maiden flight video of my just completed (Sky Fly 2 25% bigger 1000% better) to Ron & Sabrehawk I talked about yesterday that I said I would.
Go to my youtube for videos of the Sky Fly 2 new, and the Cessna when it was flying good with the upgraded setup that is on it, before the problem happened.
Thanks to all for the help! Shawn

Have you checked the wings? Most planes of that design I have flown have a few mm of washout in the tips. As in, if the wings are laid flat on the table the trailing edge tip is a few mm off the table. This will delay the wing tips from stalling til a little after the main wing and may reduce the problem you are describing.

Liked your videos, 'specially the drunk gal. She gots thythm.
Have you trided changing servos & maybe Rx. Beginning to seem more like an electronics problem. What kind of a range check do you get (distance)?

Well, I aint saying it.............already did..........ya'all know.
But there's one thing that I think we need to know that hasnt been stated. And that is just which Cessna 182 is this? And more, what radio system? There must be I think about a dozen or more around probably more. Heh, actually I think the C182 has been done to death. And frankly I've never thought it to be that great a subject to model really, I'd rather they model the Piper line of GA aircraft, but there again they(the mfr's) seem stuck on just one of those too.
Wow, you'd think some variety & diversity is in order here.
Hmmm, seems we got too many bean counters making all the decisions me thinks.
But anyway, could ya let us in on the just which 182 it is? And from the sound of it now, I'd have to lean in Ron's direction of thinking, its seeming like an electronics issue. Mainly range.
I also think that this is one of those things thats nearly impossible to help with without being there and seeing it first hand and inspecting the plane and all with me own eyes. Edited by Sabrehawk - 28/Jul/2009 at 1:39pm |

Hey, Sabrehawk & Ron. I mentioned that I had the feeling 2 or 3 blogs ago that it might be a electronic problem but no one gave me any advice with my line of thought.
Sabrehawk I totally agree with you on the over production of the Cessna's & Piper Cub's and I own 3 Piper's and the POS Cessna.
I got the Cessna for the Flaps on it because I wanted to fly like the big boy's. Tower Hobbies had it for $250 on Easy Pay $89 for a 3 month Period. So it was cheap for me buy it. I wanted to buy the Cessna here too at HC. for $99 to have parts when I needed them. I don't know if you seen it here or not but it is the same plane as mine - the RX system. I should have just got it here with a nice radio system but I didn't have the cash. The cessna here is the same plane but HC stopped selling it right when I was gonna get it
Well I guess taking the RX out is my next step. I'll tell you guy's how that goes.
Keep em Flying high, Shawn

Can't you fix a flycam² to the wing and film the aileron while you launch ? That way you'll know what the control surfaces are doing.

Hey great idea, U4eake.
I might just replace the entire RC system first but it's not gonna be as easy as your
idea. Thanks for the help.
Flying helps you relive stress mostly.

Ya know if it were not for the insane heat we are dealng with right now, I'd meet up with ya somewhere and we'd solve this thing. But right now, and even this weekend is looking like we are still gonna be melting, inside or out.
My apartment last night was like an oven, I dont know how I ever got to sleep. Maybe the Tequila perhaps.
But I have a flycamone we could put on it, but I suppose if we were together on it we might not need it as I could probably troubleshoot things firsthand ya know? But fear not, we'll ghet together soon I promise. But this heat has got to go before I even think of going out and flying. I had plans to go to Marymoor on saturday, and I may still but It'll have to be early, like 6:00am before the heating gets started.
Wheew! And I lived in Phoenix for 12 years before I moved up here, and you'd think I could handle it better but my body has by now acclimated itself to the northwest so im wussing out.
But in Phoenix, you had relief once you got home and could bask in the AC of your apartment, but up here that isnt so as no apartments I've seen or worked at so far has AC. And it was surprising to me to see this when I first arrived up here. Especially given the rents all are asking, which are way higher than in Phoenix. That was hard to swallow, and still is.
Well anyway, we are on our way to an all time record today of 101deg., so anyone out flying in this is crazy, adn if the collapse they'll deserve it.

This Heat is making me crazy, I did somthing really stupid because of it and I have to tell
all for a good laugh looking back on it now.
Well first it was way too hot to fly my newly finished bird, my modified 25% bigger FlyZone Sky Fly 2 in the day, so I waited till dusk and by the time I got the right prop and
fixed the bugs that it had, it was night & way too dark. But the heat of the moment took control of my good jugment.
Well it did not have enough LEDs on it to spot her good and I lost sight of it I had
to ditch it in the deep woods. I walked around on the road until I could hear the motor faintly. So I grabbed a flashlight & started trekking through the thick brush and woods zigzaging until I found that lost little puppy.
Yay! I saved the two Li-Po's that I just got from HC, one was a perfect weight and power for the plane and the other one ran the LED system in it.
So now it is time to break the plane down & get it through the woods wit,out harming
it right? See what happend now was that I was zigaging so many times I did not pay attention to where I was at all. I took off in the wrong direction.
Now the plane becomes my light and I'm freaking out because I have a broken
back and shorts on, not prepared for this survivel test what so ever. How the hell did
I get in this mess, It must have been the Heat!!!
Well, to cut the dramatics out, I finally found a logging road that took me back to
safety 3 hours later at 3 a.m. The plane and the controller that I was holding and dragging it through deep brush, hanging up on every branch in my way,was miraculously ok .When I got back , my legs were bloody and cut and bruised to the bone, not being able to see what
I was walking into.
"Wow" this was the RC experiance of my life.
Yeah, I would be happy if you could come and figure the Cessna puzzle out. I will need to get some new props because I have gone through them all trying to figure this out.
I'll pick some brews up and barbeque too. Sounds like fun. Theres not many here in this
redneck town that is into geeky stuff like RC planes, and a friend who is into this stuff is not easy to come by locally .
Kick the tires & light the fires !!! Shawn.

Now that story made my day Shawn, HAH!
I've been thorugh stuff like that, and when ya finally get back home you just thank yur lucky stars you made it ya know? The you start kicking yourself for ever doing what ya did to get into it in the first place. But you do learn a good lesson, and learned well and dont repeat it ever. Like I did the one time I ever married, and likewise I never did that again!.
Well I gotta get off to work, bt im gonn shoot you a PM with my ph. # so you can call me and explain how to find ya down there. Perhaps we can meet up at some prominent place like a coffee shop or something in town.
K, later............Chuck.
