Stripped Gears - Help Please

What i am trying to say is that those turnigy plus esc's do not have a true soft start in helicopter use.I have several plus esc's in my smaller helicopters and they are reliable fore sure but for starting up you have to spool up with throttle closed and advance to midstick.When i bought my first K-force i noticed the difference,i set my throttle to midstick and just switch off Throttle hold and the ecs will spool up slowly to in my case 50% throttle and thus being easy on the gears.I have tryed several other ESC,the 85 amps and delux but none of them have the soft start.So never stripped a gear so far which i think is the topic.

Nothing wrong with the programmable soft start on Turnigy Plush ESCs. I can start my helis (accidently) straight into idle-up without doing any damage - although soft start is not meant for that purpose.

My TX warns me if idle-up or D/R is in wrong setting when I power up. The purpose of soft start is to handle the smooth transition from 0 - low throttle not 0 - 100% throttle.

2 seconds to spool up to what? The soft start is simply to get the rotors turning gently when you advance the throttle from off / 0% to where they start rotating at first incremental advance of the throttle. The rest of the "spooling up" is done by you - slowly & gently advancing the throttle to lift-off range at mid throttle.

I have an original trex600 with align ESC and old 600xl motor.
The align ESC will start-up slowly to selected throttle position.
With 600mm blades you want that because of the weight of the blades.
With smaller blades you can get away with a lesser soft start beacause they weigh less.I am planning to install a 600mx motor with k-force 100.
All in all this is my experience so i think you have the info you need to make your choise Plasticbaldy,if you have any further questions i will try to anser them.

I use a castle Ice100 on my 600, go from throttle hold directly to idle up with 100% throttle, takes at least 15 seconds to spool and starts extremely gently. Price is definately higher than most HK ESCs but you get a governer that you can program direct rpm numbers into, a bunch of other programming options, data logging etc etc., which for me is worth the extra $$. As far as your gear stripping problem, sounds like you may have something else going on there, how tight is your gear mesh?
