Flew today
Crashed today
Glued today
Will try again next week.

I can reliably report that the weakest point on an axn floater is at the air vent just underneath the motor, followed by the sides of the battery cavity. Happily, the motor, esc, battery and servos all managed to survive my attempt to drill my plane all the way through the earth to England. I did manage to split the fuselage almost completely in two, though.
I love the sound of crashing planes in the morning.

Only "almost", you weren't trying hard enough. Weren't you ever told " if you're going to do a job do it properly "
Sorry to hear that BenGee, it must have hit bloody hard to do all that damage . I took mine out in 45kph winds yesterday and had a ball .

Thanks Sawdust, it's obvious I'm not used to handling any degree of wind yet, I don't blame anyone but me for my problems. And the fuselage would have definitely been completely in two if it weren't for the rudder and elevator push rods...... the plane itself look a little like Karl Maldon (Malden?)with a flattened and slightly askew nose, but I think it should fly ok. And if it doesn't, I can try and match the Bixlers nose to the axn"s next time

I used to hate it being windy. Now there's myself and 1 other bloke who get all excited if it's realy windy. We've flown in over 50 kph so far and are looking forward to pushing the limits further sometime soon, we say we want to try 100kph and I'd try it alright but I'm pretty sure that would end badly . Windy with a cheap plane can be a lot of fun once you get a feel for things. There was 1 day a while back when it was very windy and nobody else was game so I went out with my epo Extra 260 (a definite favourite plane) and it took me a while but I got it flying straight and level and slowly watched it fly backwards for about a hundred yards. Probably just as well there was nobody else there because it had me gigling like a schoolgirl it just looked so wrong.
As for the nose, don't feel too bad, you should see my poor little Stinger edf. I don't know why but I've stuffed up on the launch with it quite a few times now and smacked it's nose into the ground every time, even broke the whole front section off it once. The tough little bugger doesn't look very pretty now and it's a little slower with all the kinks and warps but it still goes .

If we waited for the wind to drop we would never get any flying done. In fact, I'm not sure how I would be able to fly in anything under 35kph...lol

It caught me out at one point after being windy every time I went out for a fairly extended period. I'd become so used to landing at very low or virtualy no groundspeed that when we finaly got a calm day it took me a few goes before I could get my aproach right. I kept coming around to high and fast and overshooting the strip. When I did get the aproach right I wound up stalling and flopping down in a less than gracefull way. Kinda crazy but if you fly too much in what I used to consider chalenging conditions then the conditions you would normaly consider calm and perfect for flying can strangely become chalenging .
BenGee, If you're still getting the hang of just flying a model I'm not suggesting you push yourself too hard conditions wise but once you've got a bit of experience and especialy if you can't pick your flying days it's good experience to fly pretty much whatever the weather's like and can be an awfull lot of fun. I wouldn't do it with anything expensive though I must admit.

Back when I started flying and all I had was a small V-Tail Trainer we were on a club road trip and camping out in the field next to the flying event overnight.

Once the event had finished for the day it was free flying for everyone...except we were the only ones left given the wind conditions.

A few drinks later we got the planes out...and I was encouraged to just go for it!!!

Anyway, long story short, an hour later one of the lads comes over and asks if I need any batteries put on charge, to which I replied "No thanks, still on the first one". He didn't believe me, but I was having so much fun just hanging in the wind I had managed to eek out over an hour from a 2 Cell 1000 Mah battery on my wee foamie V-Tail Trainer...lol.

Wow , that was a realy good effort . I usualy end up using more power for the same airtime when it's windy, although it is all dead flat country where I fly so no lift off any hills, just a bit of realy turbulent and too scary to play in for long lift coming off 3 enormous gum trees clustered together a couple of hundred yards away. I don't care how expensive a model is, if I ever manage to put one in the top of one of those monsters it can stay there
